Do it! (The words of Imje Seonsa)
Description
Book Introduction
What is the meaning of “Acting wherever you are and establishing truth everywhere”?
The phrase, ‘Creating the master wherever you are and establishing truth everywhere’ is the most famous phrase in the Imje-rok.
The conventional interpretation is, 'If you become the master of the place where you are, then the place where you stand is the place of truth.
It is interpreted as something like '[legal station]'.
But this is a very wrong interpretation.
Here, '수처작주(隨處作主)' is translated as 'the subject was created according to the location.'
But the problem is that only when we know what this place is can we properly understand its meaning.
This refers to the 12 places that produce subjectivity and objectivity.
In other words, it refers to the function of internal and external entrances.
When the internal and external sources come into play, the concept of the subjective self emerges, and its counterpart, the objective, also becomes apparent.
The self revealed in this way is one that is looking at the 'outside' and is mistaken in thinking that it is looking at the real objective world.
Therefore, ‘following the place’ means thinking and looking at things by dividing them into subjective and objective aspects.
To see an object, one must have a desire to see it, and the place that creates such thoughts is the 'place', so 'following the place' means that the subject has already been established.
If the subject has already been established, the object has already been objectified and cannot help but appear true.
When we look at an object, has there ever been a time when something seemed missing or strange? Unless you have eye disease, that's not the case.
When the subject is established in this way, the internal and external entrances and exits manipulate the world so perfectly that it is impossible to doubt the implemented world at all.
It is for this very reason that we mistakenly believe that everything we see is an external object itself.
Because the vivid object manipulated in this way keeps turning and changing and approaches like a video, they do not realize the fact and are unaware of their own foolishness.
This is an explanation of the function of 'Che', and it is an undeniable fact that many practitioners have been confused and misunderstood enlightenment due to incorrect interpretations.
The ancients say, "Enlightenment is easier than touching your nose while washing your face," but reality tells us otherwise.
There are countless practitioners who practice all their lives and still feel that it is not enough, and who want to continue practicing in the next life.
Why does this happen? It's because you misread the map and end up wandering off to the wrong place.

Publisher's Review
- Translator's Note
The translator is just a practitioner who has never written a book and has nothing to boast about.
However, because of my early connection to the temple, I tried everything that was called ‘practice’, even if it was just a little bit, without any discrimination.
Maybe it's because I'm stupid, but despite all my efforts, I just felt frustrated and didn't reach enlightenment.
Then, I thought, "What if I read it while ignoring the original text of the Chinese classics?" and I read it over and over again.
Then, I also realized that the reason I had difficulty accessing the Buddha's teachings was not because of my own fault, but because I had followed a faulty translation.
If we think about it logically, the disciples of the Buddha's time were generally uneducated, so their level of understanding would have been much lower than ours today.
Yet, they were liberated on the spot by a single word from the Buddha.
Also, the disciples of the investigator often realized the truth as soon as the investigator finished speaking.
But why don't we understand this? This is largely due to mistranslations, leading us to misunderstand the meaning of the Buddha and his disciples' words and then proceed in the wrong direction.
It is like a cow and a snake drinking the same water and producing milk and poison.
This "Imjeok" was originally outside the translator's interest, but upon discovering a serious mistranslation of "Sucheojakju (隨處作主) and Ipcheogaejin (立處皆眞)," I hoped that no more unfortunate practitioners like me would appear, so I translated it, although I knew it was insufficient.
