Into the book
The second generation in the wilderness without Moses...
Moses, imagining it... In this situation, what would Moses have thought was the most urgent task? What would he have taught them first? He should have taught them, "Why did God establish this nation?"
There were two things.
Identity and mission (same as good and evil and education).
They were God's people (Ahaha!), saved as descendants of Abraham, and they were to enter the nations of the world and fulfill their mission as a priestly people. Let's apply this concretely from the perspective of the second generation in the wilderness.
They needed to know how they came to be on the plains of Moab (from Abraham onwards) and what kind of people they would be after crossing the Jordan River.
Why did they endure such hardships and struggles to reach this point, starting with Abraham? Why did this unique people come into being? We must understand that it was because of the mission to conquer Canaan (the nations of the world).
--- p.8
'Do not be consumed by the culture and religion of the Cainites, Baal and Asherah! Do not be tainted by abundance, fertility, pleasure, and fame.
Conquer them.
That is the mission of the holy people of God!" But rather than this great mission of Israel being accomplished, the history of how Baal and Asherah came in and encroached upon it was the history of Ahab.
Ultimately, the reign of King Ahab, who allowed Baal and Asherah to reign over the nations of the world, was the most fatal event in history, as seen by the Chronicler of Kings.
But among these, there was a warrior who fought the battle for the kingdom of God, and that man was Elijah.
And this country will continue to be passed on from generation to generation.
Look at the message given to Elijah when he was depressed because the nation was still not changing despite his amazing victory.
When I could no longer serve and wanted to die, look at the words He gave me! "Just run your course! I am responsible for my country! See how the house of Ahab will be judged in the future! Now, when this drama unfolds, the main character will be Hazael (king of Aram, who started the war that destroyed the house of Ahab).
Jehu (the king who succeeded Ahab).
The house of Aham is destroyed through Elisha (the prophet who succeeded Elijah) (1 Kings 19)!"
--- p.125
"Ah! Not the northern Israel! They are mixed! The kingdom of God should not be mixed! It is God's pride to remain God's holy people.
"It's life! It's not another religion! It has to be holy first! God wants His children to inherit His holy character!" That's how Ezra concluded.
"Let's teach! Let's teach this! Let's teach our people history (identity)! We must also teach them not to mingle with the nations, but rather to conquer them with God's culture (mission)!" That was the reason he returned to the exiled people and diligently taught them about Bible study.
Ezra's use of genealogy to trace the roots of the identity of the returned captives back to Adam and then highlighting 'David' is an attempt to summarize the entire Old Testament.
It is truly remarkable that the final chapter of the Old Testament begins with the account of Adam in Genesis and concludes with a comprehensive summary.
Because it shows how the kingdom of God, who created all things in the universe, has flowed continuously to this point.
Having summarized the Old Testament, looking back to the creation era on this stage of the final captive community return, aren't you excited to see how this story unfolds?
Now let us wait for the New Testament, which will open with the appearance of Elijah.
Ahahaha!
