“Climbing the ladder of true spiritual progress
“I recommend this book to all spiritual aspirants.”
- Swami Chidhatmananda (Hindu monk of the Chinmaya Mission in India)

The Map of Consciousness Explained by Dr. David Hawkins, a psychiatrist and world-renowned spiritual leader, has been published by Panmidong.
This book is an 'essential introduction' that was personally approved and planned by Dr. Hawkins in 2012 before his passing.
This book covers all of Dr. Hawkins's writings, from "The Consciousness Revolution" to "Letting Go," focusing on the core concept of consciousness research, "Map of Consciousness," and systematizes the core of the teachings he has tried to convey throughout his life into a single volume.
Additionally, we have included key excerpts from the author's lectures and informal conversations that were previously difficult to access, and added 'study group questions' and 'terminology explanations' to ensure clear understanding.
"The Map of Consciousness," a compilation of the essence of consciousness research, will serve as a friendly introduction for readers new to Dr. Hawkins, and a helpful summary for longtime readers, enabling them to more clearly understand his teachings.

Into the book
When I first saw the consciousness map, it was drawn on a chalkboard in the front door of my house.
I asked my husband.
“What is that?” my husband said, “Oh, it’s a consciousness map,” and explained that it was designed to help people understand the world.
“Each level of consciousness has its own perspective on life, perspective on God, perspective on self, emotions, and processes.
In one diagram you see the whole world.
“The Consciousness Map shows you the path from beginning to end, from the abyss of despair to the state of enlightenment.” As soon as David explained it, I knew how the Consciousness Map could bring hope to humanity.
--- p.13

Before Dr. Hawkins passed away in 2012, I asked him and Susan to muscle test my list of future projects to see if I should or should not do them.
The list included an 'introduction' to the doctor's work, and the answer was 'yes.'
The book you hold in your hands is the realization of that intention.
(……) This book is an excellent introduction to Hawkins's work for new readers and a helpful summary for long-time students.

--- p.45

Unlike the doctor's other books, this one presents his diverse communication styles: his published works and his live, conversational lectures.
I have compiled excerpts from all of his writings, as well as some lectures and informal conversations, to help readers understand and to simplify them into an introductory text.
--- p.45

A look at the entire map of consciousness reveals three phases of evolution.
That is, it is an evolution from havingness to doingness and then to beingness.

--- p.130

For those who have been everywhere, done everything, and heard everyone's story, the great obstacle to enlightenment is the principle of causality.
The principle of causality explains that everything has a linear cause and chain, and that 'this' causes 'that'.
As long as you believe that 'this' causes 'that', you have a perpetrator and a victim, an ego and a spirit, a self and a true self, and you are trapped.
--- p.162

The illness simply alerts our consciousness to something that needs to be looked at, something that makes us feel guilty, afraid, or some other negative emotion.
There are belief systems we hold that need to be let go and canceled.
There is something within us that needs to be forgiven, something within us that needs to be loved.
So instead of judging ourselves for that illness, we appreciate it for bringing something to our awareness.

--- p.190

We are addicted not to material things, but to the experience of our true Self, a state of inner peace and love for all life.

--- p.226

“Who's to blame?” is the first thing an announcer says about a disaster.
When the Brooklyn Bridge collapses, people ask:
“Who is to blame?” The ego’s vindictive nature immediately seeks out the perpetrator, and then the ego can point fingers, take revenge, punish, and hate.
Blaming is the ego's favorite game.

--- p.286

Because fear sees life as solely physical, and the ultimate fear of the body dying accompanies it, we use the “Then what?” technique.
The technique works for any fear.
Take, for example, the fear, 'I'm going to lose my car.'
Well, then what? 'Well, then I won't have transportation.' Well, then what? 'Well, then I'll lose my job.' Well, then what? 'There are no jobs like that anywhere else.' Well, then what? 'I won't have any money.' Well, then what? 'I'll be poor.' Okay.
So you are poor.
So what? 'I'm going to starve to death.' At the bottom of every fear is death.

The mind is like a giant football stadium where everyone has gone home and you are left alone.
There's a little radio playing in the corner, and as you focus on it, it says, "This is a noisy stadium."
You think your mind is noisy because you focus on that 1 percent, thinking of that 1 percent as 'me.'
It is not the mind that is the obstacle to enlightenment.
The obstacle is the identification of the mental activity as 'me'.
You consider it to be me.
That 1 percent continues to hypnotize you with various devices.

--- p.325

The comedian says:
“What are New Agers?” (Pause) “People who go to the store and buy a whole bunch of Venus flytrap plants, and then hope the Venus flytrap becomes a vegetarian!” We recognize the absurdity of trying to convince a carnivorous Venus flytrap to become a vegetarian.
“Hell, you like cucumbers.
"Isn't that right, my love? Here, try a slice of tomato!" Jokes help us laugh at the naiveté and immaturity of the ego, which expects others to conform to its spiritual ideals and morality.

Publisher's Review
Focusing on the ‘consciousness map’
Systematizing a vast body of work

The 'Consciousness Map' is a numerical index of the level of consciousness on a scale from 1 to 1,000, based on the theory of kinesiology, in order to scientifically explain spiritual truths that have been misunderstood for a long time.
Every human being is born with a spectrum of energy vibrations, or levels of consciousness, within a vast field of consciousness, the full spectrum of which can only be truly understood through a 'consciousness map'.
This book systematizes the theory of consciousness exploration by dividing it into [Foundation], [Practical Application], and [Advancing Consciousness], focusing on Dr. Hawkins' core concept of 'consciousness map'.

Part 1 [Foundation] explains the implications of consciousness mapping, its origins, principles, and key components.
Dr. Hawkins explains how the map came to be, what the scientific principles are, what the different levels of consciousness and energy fields mean, how levels of consciousness are measured, and how consciousness has evolved over thousands of years.
Part 2 [Practical Applications] shows how consciousness mapping can be practically applied to our daily lives.
It offers easy-to-understand steps and practical methods to address basic human issues such as physical health, business success, and addiction recovery.
In particular, it addresses spiritual issues in conjunction with the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous, while expanding upon them into a universal concept applicable to other addictions and compulsive behaviors.

Part 3 [Advancing Consciousness] explains how consciousness advances through consciousness mapping.
It clearly outlines not only how to expand one's level of consciousness but also specific guidelines for avoiding spiritual pitfalls, including 40 characteristics of a perfect teacher and teachings, 12 spiritual facts and 14 spiritual principles that are invaluable to spiritual seekers, and simple tools that are of great value on the spiritual journey.

Through books, lectures, and informal conversations
Getting to the heart of the teachings

In this book, you will find teachings on a variety of topics, including the interpretation of consciousness maps, the relationship between animals and humans, the evolution of consciousness, personal growth, illness and healing, business success, recovery from addiction, transcending ego barriers, and higher spiritual states.
Officially published works, on-site lectures in conversational format, and informal conversations are summarized to help you understand the content more richly.
The back of the book contains appendices to aid introductory readers.
Anyone can easily utilize the "Study Group Questions" that provide discussion topics for each chapter, the "Glossary" that explains key terms, and the "Index" that organizes the information by keyword or topic of interest.
Additionally, the 'Original Materials' section includes the sources for each chapter, so readers who want to know more can continue reading Dr. Hawkins' other books.
This book, which systematizes and encompasses the entire teachings of Dr. Hawkins, will help readers easily access the study of consciousness, previously considered difficult, and evolve to higher levels of consciousness and energy.
