Publisher's Review
From a pioneering public servant to a mentor to aspiring young people, Attorney Ko Seung-deok's life story.
Attorney Koh Seung-deok is famous for his impressive resume, having passed the three major civil service examinations (the bar exam, the foreign service exam, and the civil service exam) while attending Seoul National University Law School, graduating from Yale University, Harvard University, and Columbia University Law School, and working as an attorney at one of the world's largest law firms.
In particular, the record of conquering three civil service exams while attending college and passing all three exams with titles (youngest person to pass the bar exam, top scorer in the civil service exam, second top scorer in the foreign service exam) is still unbroken to this day.
This book depicts the life, dreams, and challenges of Attorney Ko, who, as a student at a small, newly established middle school in Gwangju, challenged and was accepted into Gyeonggi High School, the most prestigious high school in the country, and whose every moment was a continuous challenge.
Coming from a poor family, Attorney Ko believes that studying is the only way to achieve his dream and works hard to achieve it.
Lawyer Ko's widely known study secrets, such as 'Ko Seung-deok's single-volume study method', 'bean sprout-growing study method', and 'the 100-day test strategy', are all things that Lawyer Ko acquired while studying on his own without relying on private tutoring.
In particular, the detailed guide to passing the civil service exam without any packaging is still useful to many exam candidates.
Also, the late lawyer's life philosophy, such as 't1t2 judgment method' that introduced the value of time into value judgment, 'effort creates miracles', 'the more urgent it is, the more fundamental it is', 'if you can't avoid it, break through!', and 'overcome yourself and move forward with self-discipline', accurately represent his life, which was lived by forging a new path rather than following a path already paved by others.
In particular, Attorney Ko has consistently made efforts to create equal educational opportunities and safe schools during his four years as a member of the National Assembly since 2008.
In 2008, he proposed the amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to expand free high school education, and in 2011, he proposed the bill to ban the bringing of alcohol into schools.
This book, which thoroughly contains the wanderings and worries, goal setting and decisions, structure, challenges and successes that Attorney Ko experienced while constantly challenging himself in various fields such as broadcasting, securities, politics and community service, will serve as a strong guide and encouragement to those who are at an important crossroads in life, those who have the courage to change the present for the future, those who believe that opportunities will arise if they do not give up and work hard no matter how difficult or hard the task, those who want to study on their own initiative, and all those who want to become the masters of their own lives.
Career and Academic Advancement Mentoring Based on Attorney Ko Seung-deok's Life Experience
Recently, our country's college entrance exam and employment environment has changed significantly.
Unlike in the past when students could focus solely on studying, students now have to decide on their career path before starting their studies.
And you can succeed in college entrance exams and employment only if you study and build your skills in line with that career path.
Attorney Koh Seung-deok experienced the admissions officer system while studying abroad at the three major law schools in the United States: Harvard, Yale, and Columbia. He also personally experienced this change while going through several in-depth interviews, which are currently being conducted by major Korean companies, in order to get a job at Baker & McKenzie, one of the world's largest law firms.
After returning to Korea, I have experienced various career fields and lived a life of integration that universities and companies demand.
Community service activities, which are emphasized in the process of advancement to higher education and employment, have been continuously practiced for over 20 years.
Furthermore, since the publication of “Nothing is Impossible If You Don’t Give Up” in 2003, Attorney Ko has consistently shown interest in youth issues, including studying for a doctorate in youth studies at Chung-Ang University and obtaining qualifications as a youth counselor.
In this revised edition, Attorney Ko draws on these diverse experiences to offer systematic mentoring to young people on how to study and develop careers tailored to their career paths.
In particular, it is characterized by not viewing adolescents as passive objects that do what their school and parents tell them to do, but as active participants in cultural production and social change by actively expressing their own tastes and opinions, and by specifically introducing ways for adolescents to find and develop their own dreams.
