A cozy space that gently caresses the bodies and minds of insect guests!
“Welcome! Welcome to the insect hotel.”

As fall draws to a close, the ladybug family gets busy.
Because the insect hotel is about to undergo a thorough cleaning to welcome guests.
Use a reed duster to remove cobwebs, and wipe the floor clean with a dry leaf rag.
In fact, there are insect hotels in ecological parks all over our country, built by people to protect insects from pesticide damage and provide them with a safe haven.
Just as each insect guest in the story has a different room, the actual insect hotel is decorated with various materials to suit the insects' habitat.
In this way, 『Insect Hotel』 expands the meaning of space to become a shelter that protects insects from the cold, a comforting space that cherishes fragile insects, and a place that prepares them to leap forward with wings toward a new world, delivering new excitement and deep emotion to readers.

From ladybugs to grasshoppers, insects survive the winter in their own unique ways!
What do insects look like before they become adults?

Ladybugs, the owners of insect hotels, are perennial insects that spend the winter in groups.
That's why it fits well with the setting of running an insect hotel together for a long time.
The larval guests gnaw through the wood, making space for themselves and preparing to pupate, while the pupal guests wait quietly, doing nothing to grow into adults, until they are ready.
Also, locust guests build nests on tree branches to lay their eggs.
In this way, 『Insect Hotel』 shows the various growth processes of insects through stories.
It shows the egg, larva, and pupa stages of insects that we know with their colorful appearance, and tells us that although this is the most vulnerable stage for insects, it is a moment that they must go through.
The long winter nights that all insects face are a time of weakening and preparation for a new life.
We look forward to seeing the insects that will shine brightly after a long time, and we hope that the affectionate and warm warmth of the insect hotel will reach not only the insects but also all those whose hearts have been frozen during the cold winter.

A sweet and innocent story of insects presented by two authors, Hanra Kyung and Muun.
A picture book that conveys comfort, care, growth, and hope!

Author Han Ra-kyung, who tells stories of affection through picture books such as "Today's Store" and "I'm a Bakery!", conveys her heart through "Insect Hotel" by comparing the life cycle of insects to our own.
While everyone else is dreaming new dreams, I hope this story brings comfort and warmth to those who may still be curled up in a deep sleep.
In addition, artist Muun, who wrote and drew the picture essay 『Collecting Heart Drops』 and recorded happy moments in everyday life, beautifully expressed cute insect characters and the changing seasons with a lively drawing technique.
In particular, the 'Insect Hotel' was reborn as a cute and warm space through the imagination of writer Muun.
Discover the subtle nuances of "Insect Hotel"! Discover the intricacies of the ladybug family's lives, nestled in every nook and cranny, and you'll experience a whole new level of fun.

Author's Note

It seems like winter comes several times in life.
There are moments when we just want to curl up and cry quietly, for both adults and children.

I hope that insect hotels will be a comfort in times like these.
A sturdy insect hotel, Grandma Dada's cozy sweater,
The quiet music played by Mumu, the meaning of the time called 'winter'.

I hope all of this can give someone a pat on the back.

-Writer Han Ra-kyung's words

After a cold winter, a warm spring that seemed like it would never come suddenly arrives.

In it, insects, leaves, and flowers grow in their own shapes.

I think the same goes for people.

If you can overcome this seemingly endless cold season, warm and comfortable days await you.
And then you'll discover a stronger version of yourself that will help you get through the winter.

Just as insects come to insect hotels to survive the cold winter,
I hope my paintings can become that kind of space for you.

I will always welcome you with affection, just like Grandma Dada and Mumu, in the same place.

thank you
