Eighteen Histories
Description
Book Introduction
Discover the essence of China's 4,000-year history in one volume.
The Eighteen Histories contains interesting stories that allow us to glimpse the leadership, wisdom, successes, and failures of well-known figures such as Qin Shi Huang, the Chu-Han period (Xiang Yu and Liu Bang), the Three Kingdoms, Empress Wu Zetian, Tripitaka, and Genghis Khan.
In addition to these, the book features numerous leaders, righteous people, evil people, loyal subjects, and treacherous subjects. Through their appearances, readers can learn a little more about what kind of being human is, and also learn about the leadership and wisdom of life from these characters.
Until now, 『Eighteen Histories』 has not been widely introduced in Korea.
Moreover, most of the books that were already published were direct translations of the original texts, so they were written in an old style full of Chinese characters, which was not suitable for the modern era and was stiff, which was a critical drawback that made it difficult for general readers to read.
Accordingly, this book has been compiled with appropriate additions and subtractions to suit modern sensibilities so that anyone can easily read it.
The Eighteen Histories is not a history book that simply lists facts in chronological order. Rather, it contains over 100 interesting stories, each written like a novel, making it an ideal book for those who want to learn the basics of Chinese history.

Publisher's Review
A must-read for Joseon Dynasty scholars!
Leadership and Life Wisdom Learned from the Classics
『Eighteen Histories』 is a history book that records the history of China from ancient times to the fall of the Song Dynasty.
The author is Zeng Xianzhi, a person from the late Song Dynasty.
He compiled a compilation of 18 official historical books that existed in China at the time, from Sima Qian's Records of the Grand Historian to Zhuo Jiutao's History of Song, in an easy-to-understand format.
So, the title of the book, 『Sipalsaryak』, comes from the meaning of ‘a summary of 18 history books.’
『Sipalsaryak』 is a book that has been a must-read for scholars in Korea since the Joseon Dynasty.
It is a classic among classics that has been loved for over 600 years.
The reason I am introducing the 『Eighteen Histories』 today is because it allows us to look back on the fierce history of humanity, because it is a story that is closely connected to our history, and because it is a treasure trove of wisdom and life of all kinds of people, from the emperor at the top to the commoners at the bottom.
