A leisurely journey, both near and far
Description
Book Introduction
Whether far or near, I enjoy leisurely travel these days.

Masuda Miri, who enjoys enthusiastic support from a diverse fan base, is well known as a sympathetic cartoonist and essayist, but she is also a travel enthusiast.
In 『I Traveled Alone』, a travelogue of traveling to every corner of Japan alone every month, the author shows the process of finding a travel style that suits him after going through the trials and errors of traveling alone. In 『Travel Diary Around the World』, he also presents a travelogue that asks people to think about how to spend each day to have fun.

Two years after the publication of 『Travel Diary from Around the World』, Masuda Miri's travel essay, 『A Leisurely Journey, Far and Near』, was published by Book Forest.
He says that it would be nice to have a familiar travel destination to visit when you feel tired, and that the excitement of wanting to travel to a place you've never been to is also nice.
When I think about a place I've traveled to before and want to walk that road again, eat that food again, or rest at that hotel I stayed at, I suddenly go on a trip.
I also look forward to new trips, thinking about places I haven't been or tried yet.
This is a travel essay about a leisurely and free trip to places far and near.

Into the book
Bessho Onsen, early summer sunset.
I returned to my accommodation and lazed around.

--- p.15

The rose has bloomed.
A dandelion bloomed on its own next to the rose that had been carefully cared for.
Dandelions have a beauty of their own, and I was moved to look at them, projecting myself onto them, unlike a rose.

--- p.43

Soft sunlight poured down from the ceiling.
Palm trees and blue swimming pool.
People who were liberated in swimsuits.
I wish heaven were like this.
I was just at the Hawaiians without even thinking about what was going on tomorrow.

--- p.65

Eat this, walk this path, speak here, read this word, think this word.
It must be a different life, but why does it feel like I won't change and remain the same inside?

--- p.105

Fresh green leaves, the sound of flowing rivers, and delicious bread.
It seems like the burden of annoying things I was carrying has gotten smaller by one or two fold.
Travel is the best way to change your mood.

--- p.112

A trip where I could fully enjoy the pollen-free spring and live as if I were living here.
Eat whatever you want to eat that day.

After dinner, browsing the souvenir shops on International Street every night is a kind of walking exercise.
I walked a lot, so I can have a snack, right?
I put some Okinawan sweets in my mouth in my hotel room.

Publisher's Review
There is no such thing as a trivial journey, it is definitely filled with something.
“Traveling is really great~”

The consistent mood of 『A Leisurely Journey, Far and Near』 is one of leisure.
This is a recent travel story about a time when I was free and leisurely, going wherever my feet took me and my heart led me, according to my condition and circumstances that day, without feeling pressured to see all the tourist attractions or explore the local restaurants.

In Switzerland, the country of Heidi, which I admired as a child, I enjoy hiking in the Alps.
Of course, you can't go all the way to the top, so don't push yourself too hard and just hike up a little.
Switzerland is a recommended, albeit expensive, travel destination, as it offers a beautiful Alpine landscape for both the elderly and those with limited physical strength.
It captures the precious time spent looking at the beautiful mountains and eating delicious food.

In the past, I might have pushed myself too hard, thinking, "I've finally come to Switzerland!", but now I think, "It's a good course, so it's good."

The writer also went to the hotel in Hakodate, Hokkaido, after hearing that the breakfast buffet was popular.
Unlimited salmon roe or unlimited champagne from morning! While it would be nice to compare breakfasts at various hotels, Masuda Miri stays at one hotel and focuses on a few items each day, enjoying a delicious buffet.

The truffle chocolates packaged by 'Angelique Voyage' were made of thin chocolate with soft whipped cream inside, and they melted away as soon as I put them in my mouth.
I ate it slowly in my hotel room, struggling to eat it, saying it was delicious.
According to comedy duo Sandwich Men, anything that melts and disappears must have zero calories.
_p.138 Hokkaido/Hakodate

Masuda Miri returns to the readers with a more relaxed appearance than before.
It reminds us how precious it is to take time away from our daily lives, go see something we like, eat delicious food, and relax, sometimes alone and sometimes with someone.
At the end of each trip, a cute 4-panel cartoon is included to convey the sparkling moments discovered during the trip in a more special and enriching way.
The final cartoon, which replaces the epilogue, ends with the thought, "Traveling is good," and the honest and straightforward feelings are clearly felt even without any grand narrative.
