Description
Book Introduction
Anyone who reads this book will definitely improve their soccer skills!
Upgrade your individual tactics, group tactics, and team tactics!

In Spain, it is often said that “football is tactics!”
It's not "Soccer is skill" or "Soccer is physical strength."
In fact, Spanish coaches also know that playing soccer requires skill, physical strength, and tactics.
Yet, the reason they assert that “soccer is tactics” is probably because they have a strong desire to play smart soccer that values tactics.

This book contains 70 modern soccer tactics that are fun to read and can be applied in real-life situations, from soccer beginners to professional soccer players.
It explains the theoretical principles by dividing them into individual tactics (offense, defense), group tactics (offense, defense), and team tactics (system, set-piece), shows tactical situations graphically, and increases readers' interest through real-life examples of famous players and teams, as well as helping them intuitively understand soccer tactics.
In soccer, there are no 'same situations', but there are countless 'similar situations'.
So, there is no play that can be called the 'correct answer', but there are plays that are 'close to the correct answer'.
In order to get as close to the correct play as possible, the content was organized through extracting and comparative analysis of various phenomena that occur in soccer matches.

Publisher's Review
A fun soccer tactic book that blends soccer theory and practice!

Not everyone who reads this book can become Lionel Messi.
Just reading this book won't make you a David Beckham crosser or a goalscorer like Filippo Inzaghi.
But even so, this book does a good job of explaining the 'tactical meaning' and 'ideas' behind the plays of players like Messi, Beckham, and Inzaghi.
It may be embarrassing and embarrassing for me, who has not dedicated my life to the field, to talk about football tactics.
But on the other hand, as someone who has been working in the field of expressing soccer through words and writing, I have been waiting for a book that describes the various tactical aspects of soccer that unfold on the field in an easy and fun way.
To be honest, this book pretty much satisfies my expectations.
Let me elaborate on the strengths of this book:

First, this book explains the most common, yet most fundamental concepts of soccer in an easy-to-understand way.
During soccer broadcasts, we often hear expressions and comments such as 'overlapping', 'pressing', and 'covering', but when asked in what situations overlapping is appropriate, how to apply pressure, and what the most basic techniques for covering are, it is not easy to give an easy-to-understand answer.
This book will provide conceptual answers to such fundamental questions.

Second, this book is both theoretical and practical.
Of course, this book is not a technical book.
For example, this book does not explain how and where a soccer player should strike the ball to kick or pass.
However, this book explains what tactical implications a successful kick or pass has, why a particular technique might be effective in that situation, and what the defensive response should be.
Therefore, I believe this book will be helpful in improving the 'thinking' of players that is necessary in actual games.

Third, this book covers individual tactics, partial tactics, and team tactics.
This book provides an engaging account of the fundamental movements and underlying ideas of each tactical unit, from individual players to entire teams.

Fourth, this book provides real-world examples to aid understanding.
Players like Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernandez, David Beckham, Franco Baresi, Filippo Inzaghi, Andrea Pirlo, Gennaro Gattuso and Franz Beckenbauer are some whose specific playing styles are clearly etched in our minds.
This book provides examples of their play through the main text and mini-columns, which not only increases readers' interest but also helps with intuitive understanding.

Fifth, this book includes a history of tactical change.
In explaining any concept, it is essential to cover at least some of its history of change.
Of course, this book was not written for the same purpose as Jonathan Wilson's tactical history, so it does not describe the changes in football tactics, systems, and formations in detail and depth.
However, by describing it as much as necessary in the necessary context, we are helping the reader's understanding.

Of course, I think this book has its 'disadvantages that are not flaws'.
Since the author is Japanese, the names of Japanese athletes and coaches who have worked in Japan often appear in the examples given.
The names of players such as Shunsuke Nakamura and Shinji Kagawa, and managers such as Ivica Osim and Philippe Troussier are among them.
However, rather than viewing the frequent appearance of "Japanese soccer players" with discomfort, I hope you will read this book while focusing on the "tactical meaning" conveyed by the explanations utilizing those cases.
Perhaps, in the future, the responsibility for creating a tactical book that utilizes the actual case studies of our Korean players and K-League teams falls to soccer writers like myself.
Lastly, I sincerely hope that this book will be widely used by everyone, from aspiring soccer players who want to become familiar with soccer to professional soccer players and fans who want to enjoy soccer more analytically.
