Making adult life more colorful
Definitions of 66 adjectives

A new interpretation of everyday vocabulary

Life is often compared to a blank sheet of paper.
That your life changes depending on what you draw.
But in creating a beautiful painting, how you draw is as important as what you draw.
Even if the base drawing is a little lacking, it looks much more beautiful when colorful colors are used harmoniously.
If worrying about what to draw in life is a 'noun' type of life, worrying about how to draw it is an 'adjective' type of life.

Kim Beom-jun, the author of "The Usefulness of Adjectives," achieved success by turning the results around after facing failure in life.
It's like failing the civil service exam, but getting a job at a large company in the job market with the thought that I should earn money and be a good person.
Changing direction was hard, but I didn't feel frustrated or like my life was ruined.

The author explains that the reason for this is that his dream and goal was not the title of a job like a civil servant, but rather the adjective of a 'good' adult.
Anyone who targets adjectives rather than nouns will not be easily discouraged.
So, author Kim Beom-jun selected 66 adjectives that he wanted to introduce to readers and categorized them into the following themes: “an adult who is constantly learning,” “a respected adult,” “an adult who lives a vibrant life,” “an adult who makes wise decisions,” and “an adult who exerts a warm influence.”

In addition, we have accurately explained the meaning of vocabulary that we have vaguely known in our daily lives using dictionary definitions and added our own definitions.
It provides readers with a deeper understanding of vocabulary by explaining words with similar meanings but subtly different nuances, homonyms, and differences in meaning between words with different Chinese characters.
It includes the author's experiences, philosophers' thoughts, and even examples of famous people related to the adjective, allowing readers to understand and acquire the meaning of the word in more detail.
Readers must experience and enjoy the adjective vocabulary from various perspectives and examples so that they can choose the adjectives that will become their life goals.

Through “The Usefulness of Adjectives,” author Kim Beom-jun hopes that readers will also choose their own adjectives and steadily move toward that goal.

Into the book
It's a battlefield outside, but the safe base feels even warmer the more intense the battlefield is.
The warmth between people is even more important.
Often times, our words speak volumes about our level of warmth.
As author Maya Angelou said, “People may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.” A warm attitude leaves a lasting impression on others.

--- p.177

A 'cheerful' personality isn't just for someone else.
Psychological research shows that people who are generous to others and have outgoing personalities have higher life satisfaction and better mental health.
It may depend on how you look at cause and effect, but in any case, the 'cheerful' personality seems okay.
How about brightening up those around you with a 'bubbly' personality so that not only your interpersonal relationships but also your entire life can be enriched?

--- p.194

Difficulty is a sharp blade that peels away the shell of prejudice and stereotypes.
The truth always comes across as unfamiliar and uncomfortable, but to us, familiar and comfortable lies often feel sweeter than uncomfortable and unfamiliar truths.
But in the face of the sharp question of difficulty, that sweet misunderstanding slowly crumbles, and we can get a little closer to the truth.

--- p.250

The interesting thing is that when we use the expression 'the road ahead is blocked', we can use both '막막하다' (meaning 'lonely mak') and '막막하다' (meaning 'desolate mak').
The Standard Korean Dictionary uses the example of 'the road ahead is blocked' for both words.
Ultimately, the feeling of a blocked future seems to encompass all the feelings of being distant, lonely, and blocked.
So how great must it be for us to often feel the sense of hopelessness in life?
--- p.274

The awkwardness makes me face the shadow that lurks inside me.
The adjective 'awkward' acts like a window that lets me look into my distorted self.
It seems like a signal that I, too, am not free from prejudice.
It becomes an opportunity to realize that many contradictions and dualities coexist within me.
There are times when I blush and feel embarrassed that I thought something was different.

Publisher's Review
The writer who had to prove his existence throughout his life found
How to avoid frustration

Bestselling author with 300,000 copies sold in the field of conversational skills, corporate communications instructor, corporate leader, and graduate of a prestigious university with a degree in economics.
If you just look at the author's resume, it seems like there are no failures.
However, before entering the Department of Economics, he prepared for medical school but failed, and before joining a large company, he prepared for the civil service exam for five years but failed.
Becoming an in-house trainer and writing a book on conversation techniques began when I was passed over for a promotion at a large company, and I began to reflect on whether there was a problem with my own speech.

Author Kim Beom-jun failed in most of the things he initially set out to do.
But I wasn't discouraged.
It's not because I'm a person with a particularly unyielding will, but because I secretly thought my dream was to become a 'good adult'.
There was no need to be discouraged because you can become a good adult no matter what job you have.
Our society today considers one failure as the failure of everything.
Or, they fear that those who are successful now will continue to be successful in the future, and those who are failing now will remain eternal failures.
However, one failure cannot last forever, and even if you fail several times, it is only a process of moving towards the adjective you have in mind.

In an age of frustration, anxiety, and depression, the author believes that if this "adjective" attitude toward life spreads, more people will be able to interpret their lives in a more colorful way and live them with confidence.
So, this book is a humanities book that deals with understanding vocabulary, and a self-help book that gives you the will to continue walking forward in life.
