A quiet time waiting for the soul
Beautiful moments blooming at the tip of a thin pencil line

One day, an ordinary man, busy with his routine life, feels a suffocating pain in his hotel room while on a business trip.
And then, in that moment, you find yourself unable to remember anything.
Who you are, where you are and why you are there, and even your own name.
The next day, he hears an unbelievable story from the doctor.
The truth is that there is no soul inside him now.
That I lost my soul.
His soul, unable to keep up with his master's pace, is wandering somewhere.
From that day on, the man begins to slowly wait for his soul in a small house on the outskirts of the city.


Pictures gradually fill in the blank spaces in the story that the text leaves open.
Spaces of the past where young souls visit.
Scenes of a party hall and an old restaurant on a certain day, an empty park in winter, and a train passing by.
The left side of the book is the space of the soul that is coming, and the right side is the space of the man who stays and waits.
And the two spaces are connected by an old, faded background.
The material behind this piece is actually the inside pages of an accounting ledger that Joanna Conceillo found at a flea market, and it has the number stamps of the time it was used, and the neat and regular grid lines are drawn as if to show the repetitive nature of the work.

The comforting feeling that old and worn things possess extends to the outer periphery of this book, creating a texture that can only be felt in a fine paper book.
The cover that wraps the book is uncoated so that you can feel the rough texture of the paper by touching it directly, and the paper inside is also selected from paper that is less smooth than smooth coated paper, but has a texture that is especially good when touched by hand.
A couple of semi-transparent tracing papers were added to convey the beauty of the pictures that are subtly visible, and vintage motifs that give the impression of being worn, torn, and worn out were used to create the picture book from beginning to end.
Above it, the soul and the man's time are drawn in detail and carefully.
The monotone scenes created by the pencil lines are melancholic and sometimes unsettling, but they still beautifully capture those desperate moments.

Business trips, work, watches, trunks and cities and tiring days.
Unfortunately, the expressions used to describe men are not at all unfamiliar.
Our images are superimposed over the man's figure, as if a translucent sheet of paper had been added.
The first scene of the book, showing people sweating, exhausted, and running around busily, ultimately represents the way we live today.
Empty moments that we all encounter as we live repetitive lives.
Maybe I've lost my soul in the routine of everyday life.
A picture book has been published that offers a word of comfort to me, who is exhausted, and to my soul, who must have been feeling frustrated and weary.
