Why do we hate reading? Why do we always deny knowing the content when asked? Why do we seem to read fluently, but can't grasp the meaning? It's because we read with our mouths, like parrots.
For a child to experience the joy of reading, they must read not just by reading the words, but by understanding the meaning contained in the words.

Why do toddlers need reading programs?

Early childhood is a period of 'learning preparation', and it is important to build a solid foundation of basic learning skills (reading, writing, and arithmetic) before entering elementary school.
Among the basic learning skills, the most important is reading ability, or reading comprehension.
All learning begins with reading.
In math and science, you can only solve problems properly if you understand the content accurately.
Therefore, children with poor reading comprehension skills are bound to have poor learning abilities and achievements.
Ultimately, reading comprehension is the core of learning ability.
The most effective way to develop such important reading skills is to read a lot of books from a young age.
However, to enjoy reading, you need to have reading comprehension skills.
Children with strong reading skills enjoy reading books on their own and as time goes by, their reading skills gradually improve as they read more books. On the other hand, children with weak reading skills find reading books very boring and painful because they cannot understand the meaning contained in the books.
Eventually, you become more and more distant from books, and your reading comprehension skills become stagnant or even deteriorate.
However, reading comprehension is developed through the process of properly reading and understanding texts, rather than simply reading a lot of books.
To improve your reading comprehension, you need to repeatedly practice how to read properly.
Systematic reading training through various texts from infancy allows children to quickly and accurately grasp the content of texts, and develops comprehension, reasoning, and thinking skills in an integrated manner.


The Effectiveness and Features of Smart Reading for Toddlers

One, it is the first specialized reading comprehension textbook for young children.
While existing Korean language learning books for young children focused on simple sentence reading (reading aloud) with the goal of learning Korean, 『Smart Reading for Young Children』 aims to help children read and accurately understand the content, and systematically and repeatedly trains them in reading comprehension.
Furthermore, while existing reading comprehension textbooks were developed for elementary school students and were structured for toddlers by lowering the difficulty level, 『Smart Toddler Reading』 was developed from the beginning with consideration for toddlers' cognitive development.


Second, it lays the foundation for reading comprehension.

In order to systematically train reading comprehension, we selected texts by considering a wide range of environments where we frequently encounter texts in our daily lives (letters, advertisements, posters, manuals, storybooks, knowledge books, etc.), and grouped texts of similar nature (life texts, story texts, knowledge texts).
Because different texts require different reading comprehension methods, we repeatedly present representative reading comprehension problem types appropriate for each text to provide proper reading comprehension training.
Additionally, once you complete all of your learning, you can immediately check your learning achievements through assessments.


Third, we practice reading comprehension by reading various types of texts such as life writing, story writing, and knowledge writing.
It contains everyday writings such as messages, instructions, letters, advertisements, posters, instruction manuals, travelogues, diaries, and appreciations that can be seen in daily life; stories found in storybooks such as fables, world masterpieces, old tales, creative fairy tales, and stories about people; and knowledge writings to read when acquiring various knowledge about plants and animals, mathematics, science, our culture, and art.

Four, three levels depending on the learning level of the child!
『Smart Toddler Reading』 is divided into three levels based on the child's learning ability.
Step 1 is the basic reading level. You read a short passage of 3 to 6 lines and solve 1 to 2 reading comprehension questions.
Reading comprehension questions consisted of identifying the main idea, identifying the main character and central event, and identifying the main idea.
Step 2 is the stage where you become familiar with reading comprehension. You read a long text of about 6 to 10 lines and solve 2 to 3 reading comprehension questions.
Reading comprehension questions consisted of identifying the purpose and main idea of ​​the text, identifying details of characters' actions and events, accurately distinguishing the meaning of sentences, and rearranging information in order.
Step 3 is the stage of full-scale reading comprehension. You read a long passage of about 7 to 12 lines and solve 3 to 4 reading comprehension questions.
Reading comprehension questions consisted of understanding the main idea and flow of the story, and carefully examining the details.


Five, it develops multi-faceted learning abilities.

While learning 『Smart Toddler Reading』, children stimulate their brain activity through various activities such as looking with their eyes, reading out loud with their mouths, listening with their ears, thinking about the content of the text in their heads, and coloring, pasting, and writing with their hands.
These comprehensive stimulation and thinking activities enhance thinking skills, and further develop communication skills, imagination, and creativity.


Six, a learning progress chart and review questions are included.

A progress chart is included to help you plan your study schedule so you can study consistently every day.
The amount of study was adjusted to take into account the time that children can concentrate.
After completing Volume 1, there are review problems included so that you can review what you have learned.

Seven, each problem includes a friendly guide for parents.
A friendly guide for parents, complete with answers, is included to help parents teach their children at home without any difficulties.
You can also help your child understand the intent of the problem by explaining why it needs to be solved and how it will help them.

How should I use 『Smart Reading for Toddlers』?
① It is better to start after learning Korean.
Choose the level based on your child's learning ability rather than their age, but it is more effective to start with Level 1 and build a solid foundation.

② Study consistently every day.
If you study a lot at once because it's easy or put off studying because it's difficult, you'll develop bad study habits.
Study regularly according to the recommended study volume provided in the learning progress chart, but adjust the speed and amount to suit your child's ability.
③ Learn according to the reading comprehension learning method.
When I start studying, I always prepare for reading comprehension through 'reading aloud'.
Before reading the text, look at the picture first to imagine the content of the text and draw out background knowledge to activate your thinking.
When reading, focus on the content by looking at it with your eyes, reading it out loud with your mouth, and listening with your ears.
After reading the text, you will understand the content of the passage through a structured reading activity.
④ Learn repeatedly.
Even after completing the reading activity, you will naturally remember the content of the text by reading it repeatedly.
⑤ Once you have completed all the learning, you will be assessed to confirm your learning achievements.
