My first essay, filled with handwritten sentences and writing.

A new work by advertising man Park Woong-hyun, who has talked about his attitude toward books and life through 『Books are Axes』, 『Again, Books are Axes』, and 『Eight Words』, after six years.
The author has been individually recording and saving memorable sentences from books he has read.
Among them, I also wrote down my favorite sentences or short passages by hand on paper.
I wrote it down to remember, and I also wrote it down to give as gifts to family and friends.
The author also says that the reason he wrote it that way was because he liked the feeling of writing it by hand.

“I like the feeling of writing sentences on textured paper with my favorite pen.
I also try to change the font every time I write.
There is a joy in writing that is not intentional but fits the sentence.
There is joy in putting your heart into it and sharing it with someone.
Sometimes there is a thrill in having a message imprinted in one sentence rather than a few words.
“I guess I’m an inevitable copywriter.”

The author goes on to ask himself, “Wouldn’t it be possible to say that I truly know the sentence I have engraved only when I live out what I have realized in my life?” and says that in that sense, this record was the first step.


“You must embody what you have learned and put it into action.
You have to read everything you encounter with your body.
You must recall the sentences in the book and hold this moment in your head, look into your eyes, hear with your ears, breathe in with your nose, and reflect with your mouth.
You have to feel it with your fingertips and cross it with your two legs.
“Once you read it with your body like that, the sentences don’t stop at the letters.”

The moment the author saw the sunrise at Muktinath in Nepal, where he had visited for a commercial shoot, he thought of André Gide's “The Pleasure of Resignation.”
Think of the sentence “existing as an object” and recall the memory of experiencing it at that moment.
Through a passage from Ted Chiang's novel "Story of Your Life," we find a clue to the generational debate, rethink true happiness through the poetry of Hermann Hesse and the sentences of Nikos Kazantzakis, and through sentences from Judge Park Joo-young's "A Reason for Sentencing," we speak of the world we must all look into together now.
Through the sentences of Margaret Atwood's 'The Blind Assassins', we reveal insights into love, marriage, romance, and reality, and through reading Vladimir Nabokov's 'Lolita', we discuss the properties of art.
The sentences in the book he wrote down do not remain in print, as the author says.
As you read, underline, and copy the text by hand, you can see that it has become embodied and has become part of the author's life.


Author Park Woong-hyun explains the reason for weaving traces, saying, “Even though these steps may not be the solution in difficult times like these, I still believe that a single sentence in a book, a single poem, or someone’s thoughts will give me the strength to endure and persevere today.”
However, 『Sentences and Moments』 shows, without ‘telling’, why he spent so much time reading books and writing down sentences by hand, and what influence it had on his life.
The phrases “press your consciousness and raise your feelings” and “knowledge is not the way” written at the beginning and end of the book are a single message that runs through this book.
