I'll wait for you in the happy ending
Description
Book Introduction
“You and I spent different times in the same time.”
A romance novel you'll definitely read twice and cry twice.
The twisted romance between Lina, a girl with an incurable disease who has limited time to live, and Shota, a boy who wanders without dreams or goals.
Readers who have read “I Want to Eat Your Pancreas” and “Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight” should not miss this work.
The latest work of Chie Sanda, a newcomer who made a splendid debut by winning the Excellence Award at the "ENTERBRAIN ENTERTAINMENT AWARDS" hosted by Kadokawa Publishing, "I'll Wait for You at the Happy Ending, Taiyo no Shizuku" is finally being published in Japan.
The story unfolds like a drama about a high school girl suffering from 'gem disease', a disease that causes a tumor to form in her heart, who decides to live out her youth as best as possible before dying in order to increase the value of the gem that will be removed from her heart after death.
This work is all the more special because it combines the frequently discussed subject of 'incurable disease' in novels with the imagination of 'a more beautiful jewel is completed with the condensed energy of life' and adds a 'love' story that begins and ends over the course of a year, leaving a unique twist and lingering impression.
This work, carefully selected by Shinchosha's nex Bunko, which is well-known in Japan for discovering and showcasing works with high film potential, has been consistently loved locally and has received praise from a wide range of readers.
Readers who were drawn in by reviews such as, "Read this without prior knowledge! You'll definitely be hooked," continued to leave impressive comments, such as, "I wanted to scream at the final scene," "This is the best novel I've ever read," and "A truly wonderful novel that's sad, poignant, and will have you shedding tears at the end."
A story that will remain in the hearts of everyone who dreams of a happy ending this winter.

Into the book
The story I'm about to tell is about the twelve months I walked with her.
Let me tell you in advance, this story has a bad ending.
But what's so wrong with that? All's well that ends well? The ending is the most important thing? That's none of my business.
The last scene is the most important? Who decided that? It's a climax at the beginning, then it weakens and ends.
The ending may not be memorable, but there are definitely some great scenes that leave a deep impression.
Then isn't that okay?
--- p.11
The image that comes to mind when you hear the words "wonderful youth" may vary from person to person, but what I think of is a common, appropriate image that is not particularly special (although whether many people actually experience such a youth is another matter).
‘Youth’ is a word that is often seen in television dramas and comics.
That was my ideal.
--- p.31
“Every human being has a stone in their heart that can become a jewel.
If you take good care of it, it will become a beautiful, shining jewel.”
I almost jumped without realizing it as I listened to the teacher's slow speech.
My face flushed hotly and my heart pounded loudly throughout my body.
My mouth was so dry that I could hardly swallow my saliva.
--- p.39
Money is nothing compared to life. Anyone who can say something like that simply has never suffered because of money.
Even if money can't buy all happiness, it can certainly buy some of it.
Overflowing smiles and boundless affection.
The Okumura family already has the happiness that money can't buy.
The only thing lacking is what money can solve.
If I leave behind a beautiful jewel now, my family will be happy.
--- pp.58~69
“If there’s anything I can do about it, I’ll do it during my time of sadness.” That’s my motto.
Lina smiled shyly and spoke quietly but confidently.
--- p.84
The reason I wanted to have a wonderful youth in the first place was to prepare for death.
Hanging out with friends, sharing your heart with your best friend, and having a wonderful love.
Because that's what's needed to make the water droplets shine beautifully.
But, unfortunately, the more I felt happy every day, the more I felt like I didn't want to die.
How can I be so selfish?
I love my family.
I really, truly love you.
--- p.101
Is the life ahead much longer than the life you've lived so far? No.
That's an empty statement from someone who is so lucky that they live their life without realizing it.
I already know that I can't be sure that tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, or a year from now will come.
I opened my mouth, lowering my head to avoid Misato's earnest gaze.
“We won’t break up.”
Because, I need Show-chan for my wonderful youth.
“I think that if you like each other, you shouldn’t break up for any reason.”
--- p.136
“Sacrificing yourself for someone else, and to be honest, for someone else who is a good person, isn’t affection or anything.
A simple escape to make excuses for not being happy.
“It’s an escape from yourself, and it’s an escape from the people who cherish you.”
--- p.194
“I want to live happily until the end.
And I want everyone to know how happy I was.
I don't want to be pitied for being a poor child who died so young.
A happy girl who lived a good life with a great family and close friends.
“I want to be remembered like that.”
(syncopation)
Watching that documentary, I also felt sorry for him.
But was that really the case? Of course, he died from the gem disease.
If I hadn't gotten sick, I would have experienced more enjoyable things.
However, it would be disrespectful to him to simply sum up his life as unfortunate.
He must have been happy, having achieved his childhood dream and been with the person he loved.

Publisher's Review

“It’s awesome.”

'Jewel Bottle', which holds both death and jewels in its heart
The last twelve months spent by a girl who chooses death to leave behind a jewel and her lover.
The new school year began in April, on a school grounds where cherry blossoms were fluttering.
Lina meets a boy from the same school by chance, and musters up the courage to ask for his number. They start dating, and they go on traditional date trips together, such as to an amusement park, an aquarium, and a movie theater.
It's the 'common' days of youth that are often depicted in television dramas and comics, but for 'Lina', a girl with a tumor growing in her heart, each day is special and precious.
The story focuses on each moment as Lina struggles to create a 'wonderful youth' and plans her days accordingly.
In the summer, they wear yukatas with a mature atmosphere and watch fireworks together, and they have a moment to reaffirm their friendship by getting involved in a cheating incident with their classmates.
Sometimes I feel frustrated because I can't get close to the friend I want to be best friends with, but I'm happy because I get the chance to become close while preparing for a festival event together.
Students set goals with each other and dream of having a campus date at their parents' alma mater, but they also don't neglect their studies.
Finally, as if declaring, "The ending of this story is a bad ending," the days of "Shota" intersect with Rina's time and pass by like gentle waves.
Will the heavens answer Rina's prayer for a wonderful youth, hoping that the jewels she leaves behind will fetch a higher price after her death, thus improving the lives of her struggling family? What kind of ending awaits her, who, after many twists and turns, has found both true friendship and love? And what kind of ending will Shouta, who has spent "different" times with her as her lover, have?
When you meet the ending before the person you love
What does it take to have a happy ending?
If a story must have an 'ending', then what everyone expects is a happy ending.
The protagonist, Lina, who faced an unavoidable death at a young age, naturally hoped for a twist.
The novel calmly depicts the 'truth' that Lina realizes as she gains a best friend and lover and spends time with them.
Meanwhile, Shota, who had never been obsessed with himself or others and never even made an effort, finally learned how to make an effort after meeting Lina, whose motto was, “If there is sadness that can be overcome, then make an effort during the time you would be sad.” As Lina had foretold, Shota encounters “a gift from God to those who have tried their best.”
For those who live each day in a hurry, Lina, who is 'waiting for a happy ending', has a lot to say.
Only by following the elaborately woven format of the novel can we truly understand and empathize with the shining truth of life await us.
“It’s awesome.”
