Book Introduction
Alpha Centauri, a triple star system with three burning suns
The Three-Body Civilization's star-star fleet sets sail for Earth.
“It is impossible for humanity to win this war.
“You are worms!”
Liu Cixin's "The Three-Body Problem," which became a sci-fi legend

The Three-Body Problem, a masterpiece by Liu Cixin, who became the first Asian to win the Hugo Award and became a science fiction master.
The trilogy of "Earth's Past," which consists of "Part 1: The Three-Body Problem," "Part 2: The Dark Forest," and "Part 3: The Eternal Life of the Grim Reaper," boldly depicts the fate that humanity will face in a universe like the "Dark Forest," where countless dangers lurk.
As former US President Obama commented, “When I read ‘The Three-Body Problem,’ the scale of the work was so vast that the daily life in the White House felt trivial” (New York Times interview), the world constructed in ‘The Three-Body Problem’ endlessly expands toward the infinite universe.

The Three-Body Problem offers readers a transcendental view of the universe based on the scientific theories the author accumulated while working as a computer engineer.
"The Three-Body Problem" is a science fiction epic that spans from the Cultural Revolution to the all-out war between extraterrestrial civilizations and humanity hundreds of years later. In "Part 1: The Three-Body Problem," it depicts the fate of humanity as it encounters an extraterrestrial civilization while exchanging signals with a three-body world four light-years away from Earth. In "Part 2: The Dark Forest," it asserts the cosmic axiom that "civilizations constantly grow and expand, but the total amount of matter in the universe remains constant," and states that in order to survive in a universe like the "Dark Forest," a competition for survival with extraterrestrial civilizations is inevitable.
In Part 3: The Eternal Life of the Grim Reaper, humanity, having survived an all-out war with an alien civilization, comes face to face with a greater horror that exists in the universe, bringing the story to a close.
The boundless imagination that runs from Part 1 to Part 3 pushes essential thinking about the universe to the limit and allows you to experience intellectual pleasure.

Into the book
Yun Tianming raised his head and looked up at the hazy sky shrouded in the city's smog.
Although faint, silver dots were twinkling in the night sky.
I found something to do with that money.

I will give a star to Cheongsin.

--- p.51~52

“Are you going to say that you’re going to put a 500-gram cat on a 500-gram probe?”
“They are both wrong.”
At Wade's last words, Bodymorph and Camille's eyes lit up.
Cheongsindo also sprang up like a spring from the grass.
(……)
“Let’s just send the brain.”
--- p.99

If his brain were to fall into the hands of the Samcheans and be resurrected as Cheongsin had wished, it would be a true nightmare.
The cold-blooded aliens will experiment by attaching sensors to his brain and inputting various sensory inputs.
Of course, the sensation they are most interested in is pain.
They will make him experience sensations of hunger, thirst, violence, burning, suffocation, etc. in sequence, (……) and search his mind to find fear, and then they will instill in his brain the sensation of bandages being removed.

--- p.109

The two swordsmen faced each other in silence.
At that moment, Cheongsin felt a sharp ray of light pass through the dark night of his soul.
Before those eyes, she became thin and light as if she were paper, and seemed completely transparent.
Cheongsin couldn't even imagine what this old man had realized after 54 years of perfection.
Perhaps his thoughts were as thick as the layers above his head, or perhaps they were as empty as the sky above them.

--- p.211

The governor threatened that unless humans migrated to Australia immediately, the droplets would continue to attack cities.
After the one-year period, any human beings outside the protected area will be considered intruders into the Three-Body Territory and will be eradicated.
(……)
The governor added at last.
“This is a survival opportunity presented to humanity by the splendid culture of Earth.
I hope you cherish this opportunity.”
The great migration of mankind has begun.

--- p.238~239

As the light grew brighter and brighter, illuminating everyone on the ground, the city's night view also lost its light.
About two minutes later, the star reached its maximum brightness, becoming brighter than the full moon and so blinding that people could not look directly at it.
(……)
The light, which had reached its maximum, gradually weakened, changing from white to red before disappearing completely.
“Hey, don’t be afraid.
“Whatever has to happen will happen.”
The cozy dream was shattered and the theory of the dark forest was finally confirmed as reality.

The Three-Body World was destroyed.

--- p.338~339

Cheongsin stared at the blue light flickering in the deep darkness of the ruins.
There was a person who was falling forever in time, coiled in that light.
From this world's perspective, he is still alive, but in his own world, he is already dead… … .

--- p.577

“I am grateful that we lived together in the solar system.”
The Revelations fell into two-dimensional space and quickly became two-dimensional.
In just a few seconds, a fiery flash illuminated the dark space again.
It was a two-dimensional picture so vast that it could be clearly observed from Alaska, 100,000 kilometers away.

--- p.647

The light spot grew rapidly and transformed into an oval shape.
It was a two-dimensional plane.
The light emitted from that plane collided with the surrounding forest of buildings, splitting into numerous pillars of light and illuminating the people in the central axis.
Like a giant wheel with a hole in the bottom, the space city began to sink into the two-dimensional flat sea.

--- p.676

There was this paradox in early cosmology.
The paradox was that if the universe were infinite, there would be an infinite number of celestial bodies, and then the gravitational fields of countless celestial bodies would overlap each other, and all of them would be unable to withstand the gravitational forces acting from all directions and would break apart.
Now Cheongsin felt like he was being pulled by an infinite gravity.
Gravity from countless directions in the universe was tearing her soul apart.
--- p.706

Publisher's Review
Humanity has never stopped pursuing myths.
The infinite universe is still full of myths!

In the final installment of the trilogy, "The Past of the Earth," "Part 3 - The Eternal Life of the Grim Reaper," the oriental worldview and sentiment of "love for humanity" is emphasized, and it begins like a love story.
To counter the Three-Body World, humanity launches the Star Project, which involves selling ownership of stars and their planets outside the solar system that could serve as future refuges.
Yun Tianming, who is about to be euthanized, decides to give a star (DX3906) to Qingxin, his crush from college.
Afterwards, Yun Tianming is chosen for the Staircase Project, which puts a human brain on a spacecraft and launches it into space to directly scout the Three-Body World. When Qingxin, a 21st-century cosmologist, learns that Yun Tianming was the one who gave him the star, he goes into a long hibernation to confirm the project's success.

Meanwhile, three centuries later, humanity realizes that in addition to the Three-Body Civilization, there are countless other dangers in the Dark Forest, and that the only rule for survival is to not reveal one's location.
Thus, humanity installs a gravitational wave launcher that can transmit the coordinates of the Three-Body System into space, and selects Cheongsin, who has awakened from hibernation, as the last swordsman to fire the gravitational wave at the last moment.
However, due to the failure of the Cheongsin's role as a swordsman, humanity is in danger of extinction due to an attack by the Three-Body Spaceship 'Water Drop' that was lurking near Earth.
Fortunately, the coordinates of the three-body system are exposed by gravitational waves fired by another gravity-wave launcher, Gravity, and this frees humanity from the three-century-long threat of the three-body system, but humanity faces a far more brutal reality in the universe.

“The light spot grew rapidly and transformed into an elliptical plane.
The light emitted from that plane collided with the surrounding forest of buildings, splitting into numerous pillars of light and illuminating the people in the central axis.
“Like a giant wheel with a hole in the bottom, the space city began to sink into the two-dimensional flat ocean.”

As Mo Yan, China's first Nobel Prize winner in Literature, said, "It adds scientific knowledge and imagination to ordinary human life, creating a special resonance," Liu Cixin's The Three-Body Problem fills the infinite universe with new myths.
