Book Introduction
Turn impossible crimes into mysteries!
A mystery quiz show like no other, full of intellectual fun!

"Your Quiz" is a story that revolves around the strange events experienced by Leo Mishima, a quiz maniac, while participating in a quiz show.
Leo Mishima first encountered quizzes when he joined the Quiz Research Club in his first year of middle school, and became a quiz fanatic.
From then on, his life was full of quizzes.
Even after becoming a working adult, his passion and love for quizzes remained constant, to the point where he continued to work and do quizzes at the same time.

The incident occurs when he participates in the TV quiz program 'Q-1 Grand Prix' and makes it to the finals.
His opponent, Honjo Kizuna, is a contestant known as "the man who stores the world in his head," but among quiz players, he is treated as just a broadcaster rather than a quiz maniac.
Things get serious when he wins by pressing the button first without even hearing a single word of the question.
Leo Mishima begins to have doubts about this situation, which is difficult for anyone to understand.
How on earth did Honjo Kizuna get the right answer? Leo Mishima suspects it was a conspiracy, and to uncover the truth, he investigates Honjo Kizuna.
During the research process, we looked back at the questions that were asked in the final exam one by one and eventually came to one conclusion…

Here are some of the fun things you can experience in “Your Quiz”:
First, there is the intellectual pleasure felt in the process of deducing the correct answer to the quiz.
The characters attempt to answer the quiz in a novel yet logical way, and observing this gives "Your Quiz" its unique fun.
Second, there is the joy of discovering connections between quizzes and life.
Quizzes don't just function as questions to be answered; they become an opportunity to reflect on one's own life by relating to the lives of quiz players.
The inspiration will be much greater if you read directly how these elements are developed specifically in the work.
We hope you will immerse yourself in this unprecedented story.

Into the book
It was in white light.
---From the "first sentence"

My thoughts often turn to quizzes.
No matter how deep in thought you are, there are many times when you end up solving a quiz.
--- p.7

“Finally, the last question.
The winner will be decided by this question.
So, who will be the first 'Q-1 Grand Prix' quiz king?
“Is it Leo Mishima or Kizuna Honjo?”
--- p.14

Honjo Kizuna is known as "The Man Who Stored the World in His Head," "The Man Who Remembers Everything," and "The Quiz Wizard."
Of course, he is not a man who stores the world in his head, nor is he a man who remembers everything.
Although he didn't know how to use magic, it was clear that his memorization skills were beyond imagination.

--- p.26

Is it Jjamppong? Or is it magic?
I don't like either one.
There should be no cheating on quizzes, and likewise, no magic.
A quiz is a game where you have to think logically, faster and more accurately than your opponent based on your knowledge, to arrive at the correct answer.
Based on the information you have in your head, you narrow down the world and then gradually narrow down the branches called possibilities.
In this way, the possibilities in the world are narrowed down until only one remains.
A quiz is not a competition where the winner is the one who pleases the contest organizer's taste, nor is it a contest of supernatural powers.
--- p.30

I imagined a world where Quiztus, the god of quizzes who would judge the evil in the quiz world, existed somewhere.
Please.
There are people who do bad things with quizzes.
Please judge them fairly.
I thought about it but then I thought it was stupid so I stopped.

--- p.46

But even though it was the wrong answer, I was filled with an indescribable sense of fulfillment.
The quiz is alive.
I felt that way.
Everything in the world is a subject of quizzes.
As the world continues to change, so do quizzes.

--- p.93

“For your information, the quiz is not about testing your knowledge.”
The manager, who had finished eating the hamburger steak, put down his fork and said.
“Then what are you competing against?”
“Let’s see how good you are at quizzes.”
“Are you saying we’re going to compete to see how good we are at quizzing?”
“Do you think it’s embarrassing to make mistakes in front of people?”
“But me?”
--- p.112

I asked Honjo Kizuna in the still screen.
Hey, why did you press the button without listening to a single word of the question?
How did you get the answer right?
Was that a quiz?
Or was it magic?
--- pp.167~168

The quiz gave me a positive response.
You may have lost someone precious.
But by losing something, you also gain something else.
You found the right answer.
I felt like the quiz was telling me that.

--- p.179

I feel a little stronger than before.
I like quizzes a little more now, and I hate quizzes a little more now.
I decided to believe that there are still quizzes in the world that I don't know about.
To know something is to know that there is something beyond it that you do not know.

Publisher's Review
Satoshi Ogawa's novel "Your Quiz" was published by Bluehole Six.
Satoshi Ogawa is the first author to be introduced in Korea by Bluehole Six, and is currently the most notable genius author in the Japanese science fiction world.
Bluehole Six is a publishing company that has been overwhelmingly number one in the number of mystery and detective novels published every year since its founding.
We have been publishing works by unpublished domestic authors such as 'Nagaura Kyo', 'Miki Akiko', 'Sakakibayashi Mei', 'Asakura Akinari', 'Yuki Haruo', 'Zhou Dong', 'Hayasaka Yabusaka', and 'Furuta Den', as well as works by 'Oh Seung-ho' (the late Katsuhiro) and 'Usami Makoto', who were not yet well known in Korea, as Bluehole Six's mission.
In particular, by consistently publishing Nakayama Shichiri's works in series, Nakayama Shichiri has become a popular author representing Japan.
This can also be said to be an achievement and goal unique to Bluehole Six Publishing Company.

"Your Quiz" is an entertaining, knowledge-entertainment, logical mystery novel that depicts the process in which another quiz player doggedly investigates the truth behind an incident in which one quiz player guessed the answer without even hearing a single word of the question.
It depicts how we learn about a world we didn't know about before through quiz competitions and how that world changes.
It won the 76th Japan Mystery Writers Association Award in 2023 and ranked 6th in the Bookstore Awards.

“I am desperately searching for it now.”
“What are you looking for?”
“There is a chance that I will lose.”

Satoshi Ogawa is a rising Japanese science fiction writer.
He made his debut in 2015 by winning the grand prize at the Hayakawa Science Fiction Contest with his dystopian novel, This Side of Utronica, which tells the story of people who give up their privacy to live stable lives.
Afterwards, he received attention by winning the 38th Japan SF Grand Prize and the 31st Yamamoto Shugoro Award for his second science fiction novel, "Game Kingdom," which deals with the tragic modern history of Cambodia.
In 2019, his third short story collection, Lies and the Canon, was nominated for the 162nd Naoki Prize, and in 2022, he published Map and Fist and Your Quiz.
With this, Satoshi Ogawa finally won the 168th Naoki Prize for “Map and Fist” and also received the 13th Yamada Futaro Prize.
The science fiction novel "The Map and the Fist," which covers various events and human figures set in the fictional nation of "Manchuria" from 1899 to 1955, has been praised as a masterpiece that appropriately blends the emergence and disappearance of cities with actual historical events and depicts the fates of various characters.

And 『Your Quiz』, published in the second half of the year, won the 76th Japan Mystery Writers Association Award in 2023 and ranked 6th in the 2023 Bookstore Awards.
"Your Quiz" is a work that depicts how, as you learn something new, you come to know a previously unknown world beyond it, and how that world changes.
Let's take a look at the author's words directly.

“The more I know about things, the more I realize what I don’t know about the world.
I think that is the importance of ‘knowing’.
As you gain knowledge, your perspective on the world and your knowledge system change dynamically.
“In this way, humans do not degenerate.”

Satoshi Ogawa said he wanted to incorporate this philosophy into "Your Quiz."
The reason why knowing is important is because it allows me to know what I don't know.
This seemingly paradoxical idea also demonstrates the human desire for knowledge.
The more a person yearns for knowledge, the more he or she becomes aware of his or her ignorance, and such experiences lead to progress.
For this philosophy to be expressed in a work, both the known and the unknown must appear simultaneously, and "Your Quiz" proves that this is effectively possible in the context of a quiz show.

So, what genre would we classify this novel, which embodies his philosophy? Knowledge entertainment? Science fiction? Mystery? It seems difficult to confine the story to a specific genre.
In other words, the author is establishing his own unique genre, Satoshi Ogawa.
It is anticipated how this uniqueness will be varied and reproduced in his various works.
