In a year or two, you won't love me.
Françoise Sagan's "One Month Later, One Year Later," which was published in Korea under an official licensing agreement by Sodam Publishing and received much love, is now being presented in a new, revised edition with a recover in 2022.
This revised edition, which includes Sa Kang's representative works, "Cafe at the Street Corner," "Guardian of the Heart," "Blue Scars of the Heart," and "A Certain Smile," features a calm and sophisticated pastel-toned cover.
The author's works, which shed illusions about life and depict the essence of human loneliness and love with a calm gaze, are characterized by a free sensibility unbound by morality and delicate psychological descriptions.
"A Month Later, A Year Later" depicts the essence of love and the transience of life through the different loves and lives of nine Parisian men and women, including the clever and charming Josee who knows the fragility of love well; Bernard who loves Josee even though he has a wife; Beatrice, an ambitious actress who only sees love as a stepping stone to success; and the Maligras couple in their fifties who can no longer feel love after a long marriage.
This work is also the one that the main character in the movie [Josee, the Tiger and the Fish] liked.
The author wrote in a contemplative tone about the mismatch of love between two people who hold each other in their hearts despite having a lover, and the relationship between a man and a woman who were once passionately in love but whose passion has cooled over time.
It was evaluated as a work that was imbued with the aesthetic tendencies of 20th-century French Romanticism through delicate psychological descriptions.

Into the book
No one ever really has time to look at themselves.
Most people look for eyes in other people.
To see oneself in it.
--- p.77
When youth gives way to blindness, happiness shakes the man and justifies his life, a fact he later undoubtedly admits.
--- p.84
“Don’t say anything.
“This is the first true event that has happened to me in a very long time.” --- p.101
He seemed to feel a vague sense of relief at parting with her.
As it happens to people who love extremely passionately.
People who love passionately take time to savor their happiness after parting ways.
Jose smiled at Bernard.
She got back the Parisian night, the noise of the cars, her own life.
p1.23
Jose told him about the brevity of love.
“In a year or two, you won’t love me.”
Of all the people he knew, only she, Josee, had a complete sense of time.
Others, driven by a fierce instinct, tried to believe in the continuity of time, in the complete cessation of solitude.
--- p.136
Until then, Paris had been summarized into two paths for him.
It was the way from his office to the theater, and from the theater to Beatrice's apartment.
We all know these little enclaves that love's passion creates in the heart of the big city.
But Edouard got lost.
--- p.143
“Someday you will stop loving him.
And someday I will stop loving you.
And we will be lonely again.
That's what will happen.
And another year will pass… … .”
Jose answered.
“I know, too.”
“Josee, this doesn’t make sense.
“What have we all done? What’s the point of all this?”
Jose answered kindly.
“You shouldn’t think that way.
Then I'll go crazy."

“Someday I will stop loving you.”
On the brevity and fleetingness of love
A serious look at love

"A Month Later, A Year Later" is a representative work of the genius female writer of European literature, Françoise Sagan. As quoted in the work, the title borrows a line from the scene of separation between the Roman Emperor Titus and the Jewish queen Berenice in the play "Bérénice" by the French tragedian Racine.
“How can I endure a month, a year? Countless seas separate me from you, and Titus never sees Berenice. Day after day, day after day.” This line expresses the sorrowful feelings of lovers who love each other but cannot help but part. However, Sagan uses this phrase to vaguely and somewhat cynically preach the fleeting nature of love between a man and a woman who once loved each other but who are destined to change and be forgotten as time passes.
A mysterious blend of cynicism and passion for life.
Passionate love and the joy, happiness, loneliness, and sadness that come from parting... The relationships of nine men and women are intertwined like a play, some returning to old lovers, some still wandering, and some leaving for new lovers.
Bernard, still in emotional turmoil, shouts at Jose.
“Josee, this doesn’t make sense.
“What have we all done? What’s the point of all this?”
Jose answered kindly.
“You shouldn’t think that way.
Then I'll go crazy."
A quote from the play “Macbeth”: “You shouldn’t think that way.
“Then you go crazy,” makes the novel even more powerful.
Jose, who knows the brevity of love, knows the truth of life all too well.
They say that you shouldn't look at such a tragic life, or you'll go crazy.
This last line, delivered by a young girl, is so cynical.
We must not “think that way” to survive.
Even as the cold side of life is preached, leaving one feeling bitter, the warmth of complete love is felt because Sa-gang's attitude of passionately embracing the present life is fully conveyed.
“We all know those little enclaves that love’s passion creates in the heart of a big city.”
The warmth of love from people who meet, love, and say goodbye at this moment is transmitted all over the world.
A month later, a year later, I may not love him, he may not love me, but we still want to be in love.
