Publisher's Review
Author's Note
I realized this after meeting countless students in the classroom for 25 years.
There were three main reasons why students were frustrated when they encountered the wall called chemistry.
First, the mathematical burden that holds back calculations.
Second, the confusion of the symbolic system, where unfamiliar symbols, languages, and numbers, such as Cl, NaOH, and △H, pour in all at once.
Third, it is because of the passive learning method that requires students to rely solely on 'memory' by repeating mechanical problem solving in a classroom without experiments.
So I decided.
Let's break down all these burdensome barriers and create a completely new way to approach chemistry.
It's about telling a story, not just explaining.
Atoms are given characters, chemical reactions are given events, and laws are given stories.
Rather than the intellectual joy I felt while researching fuel cells in graduate school and receiving the Prime Minister's Award at a science fair, I wanted to capture in this book the "Aha!" moments I discovered while experimenting with children in science clubs over the past 20 years.
"Read Chemistry Like a Novel" is a book that translates chemistry into the grammar of stories we are familiar with, rather than unfamiliar symbols and complex calculations.
I sincerely hope that this book will be the most enjoyable gateway for those of you who have hesitated before the high wall of chemistry, overcoming that wall and entering a new world.
