Into the book
I pushed my mother's back towards the sea.
Mom quickly pulled up the hem of her dress, but the hem ended up getting wet.
My mom grabbed my hand with a mischievous expression and pulled me away, causing me to fall on my butt.
My mother and I looked at each other and burst out laughing.

--- p.11

What appeared to my surprised eyes was a girl with short, spiky hair and rough skin.
A girl with a particularly bright gaze looked at me and asked with a bright expression.
“Do you happen to know where Lee Seo-rim is?”
--- p.27

I quickly threw up both hands.
“No, don’t do that.
“Even if I come from the future, I’m still just fourteen years old.”
“Wow! I’m fourteen too.
We were the same age.
“Then, shall we be friends?”
May held out her hand with a face devoid of doubt.
I felt a little sorry, but I smiled and held his hand.

--- p.59

"What, what did you say? You want me to go to the underwater city to escape a monster that killed more than ten people?"
I was so surprised that I barely managed to ask back.
The woman nodded with a determined expression.
In my head, which had turned white, the only thing that kept ringing was the words telling me to give up.

--- p.66

Finally, the sea monster revealed itself.
A huge monster emerged from the water and glared at the ship with its gleaming eyes.
The large, twisted mouth looked as if it were mocking him.
The sea monster rushed straight towards the ship.
The captain and the adults tried desperately to keep the monster at bay, throwing spears and harpoons.
--- p.97

I thought he was an adult, but he was a boy my age.
If it weren't for her short hair and protruding neck, she was so pretty that you'd think she was a woman.
What about snow-white skin, long eyelashes, a sharp nose bridge, and red lips?
As soon as I thought that if there was a prince in a fairy tale, he would really look like this, I heard May exclaim in admiration.

--- p.107

“No, no! Please…….”
I screamed like crazy, but the speed of the gold going down only got faster.
It seemed like water was leaking into the submarine, and finally the transparent cover broke.
There was no time to scream for help.
The cold sea water rushed into my nose and mouth.
I couldn't breathe.
I struggled to get out, but my legs were stuck between the crumpled pieces of the submarine and I couldn't move.
It was hopeless.

--- p.146

“Wait a minute! That’s really weird.”
The Prime Minister, who I thought had left, returned with his head tilted.
The Prime Minister standing in front of me looked me up and down.
I clenched my fists to keep from shaking.
The Prime Minister raised his hand and pointed at me.
“Isn’t that Zion’s clothes? I clearly bought them for him as a birthday present.”

Publisher's Review
The desolate sea, the hidden truth.
An adventure beyond expectations unfolds!
“Everything you knew has sunk.

“Under the sea.”

The Time Cat series, which received enthusiastic support from young readers, has returned with the third volume, following volumes 1 and 2.
After solving the thrilling murder butterfly case, Seorim goes on a vacation with her mother and Eunsil.
Eun-sil was enjoying the warm breeze tickling her nose and the peaceful seaside scenery for a moment, but then she was kidnapped by someone.
While chasing the kidnapper, Seorim is sucked into a wormhole and arrives in the year 2150, where she discovers the shocking truth that sea levels have risen and most of the land has been submerged.
The special thing about the Time Cat series is that it deals with real-world problems.
Based on the genre of science fiction fantasy novels, it delivers a direct message to children by addressing environmental issues that are a serious concern in reality.
In particular, author Park Mi-yeon said that she was greatly inspired by the issue of rising sea levels due to the climate crisis and the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident in Japan while writing these three volumes.
Because of this, these three volumes, written based on concrete events rather than environmental issues that may occur in the distant future, have greater significance.

A heart that does not despair, a courage stronger than anyone else's
“Wait for me in the future, I will definitely change it!”

The main character, Seorim, is not your typical superhero you see in movies.
She is just like any other ordinary girl who goes to school and can't hide her excitement when visiting a warm vacation spot.
However, Seorim has a warm heart that can empathize with the pain of others and unwavering courage.
Even when she hears that she must leave for the distant future of 2150, where she and Eun-sil are stranded in the ocean where there are monsters that harm people, Seo-rim is frustrated but does not give up.
He moves bravely and courageously towards his goal of returning to his own time with his cat, Eun-sil.
In this third volume, the bubbly and charming May, the handsome Zeon who looks like he came straight out of a movie, and the dependable and capable engineer Aunt Ryu appear and help Seorim and Eunsil on their adventure to the underwater city.
I hope that readers of this book will gain courage from seeing Seorim and Eunsil overcome their fears and move forward.

Author's Note

Of course, like in this book, genetic modification won't immediately create sea monsters or make people sick.
But what happens over time? No one knows how dangerous it could become if the pollutants accumulated in small fish accumulate in the larger fish that eat them, and in the bodies of those who eat them.
No matter how wide and deep the ocean is, it has limits.
It's already getting so hot that glaciers are melting, coral is turning white, and marine life is going extinct.
But how can we possibly consider dumping pollutants on top of trash? The ocean isn't a dumping ground where anything can be thrown away.
