Niklas Luhmann, one of the most important sociologists of the 20th century and a prolific "one-man theory factory," and the smart note apps of the 21st century.
It allows you to not miss a single fragment of thought that comes to you in a moment, connects those thoughts so you can use them whenever you need to, and allows you to focus on the thoughts themselves rather than remembering them.
This book, which is the first in Korea to introduce the Zettelkasten technique, which explosively improves all learning abilities including reading, writing, thinking, and analytical skills, and has been republished in a recently revised edition, will provide overwhelming productivity not only to those who must produce results through writing such as papers, essays, books, and organized notes by topic, but he realized that this method of note-taking was not producing any results.
So I completely turned my thinking about note-taking upside down.
Instead of adding notes to existing categories or leaving notes in each book, I wrote them all on small pieces of paper, numbered the corners of the pieces, and then put them all in one place.
I created a memo box.

--- p.28

Ultimately, the note box leads Luhmann to the path of a scholar.
One day, he created a manuscript based on some of the ideas he had gathered in a note box and gave it to Helmut Schelsky, one of Germany's most influential sociologists.
After taking the manuscript home and reading this piece by an academic outsider, Shelley immediately contacted him.
He told Luhmann that he should become a professor of sociology at the then newly founded University of Bielefeld.
Of course, the professorship was attractive and prestigious, but the problem was that Luhmann was not a sociologist.
He didn't even have the formal degree required to become a sociology professor's assistant in Germany, and he didn't even have a thesis to qualify as a professor.
This dissertation, which is based on the second book published after the doctoral dissertation, is recognized as the highest academic qualification in many European countries.
But Luhmann had no degree in sociology, let alone a doctorate.
At this point, most people would simply take the professorship offer as a huge compliment, call it impossible, and then dismiss it as if it never happened.
But Luhmann didn't do that.
He ran straight to his notebook and, with the help of the notes he had collected there, acquired all the qualifications to become a professor in less than a year, and shortly thereafter, in 1968, he was appointed professor of sociology at the University of Bielefeld, a position he held for the rest of his life.

--- p.29

All you need is a piece of postcard-sized paper (the paper Luhmann uses is DIN A6 size, 148×105mm, or 5.83×4.13 inches) and a box to store them in.
While the advantages of handwriting are clear, I recommend using a digital version when you're on the go.
If you're using a program that has link and tag functionality (like Evernote or a wiki), you can basically emulate a note box, but I highly recommend Obsidian or RomResearch, which support backlinking, or Zettlr or ZKN3, which are specifically designed for the Zettelkasten system.
This list of recommended programs will be continually updated on my website.

--- p.54

Most people will implement the Zettelkasten idea with the help of software, without Luhmann's unusual numbering system.
But the important thing is to realize what this triggers us to do decisively: to find the existing context within the system and expand on it.
This encourages us to continue the conversation by adding information to our existing note-taking structure, rather than collecting scattered, fragmented information.
The note layout strikes a sweet spot between isolated facts/ideas and continuous text.
That's all there is to Zettelkasten.
Therefore, it is important to create new notes that directly address existing notes and continue the conversation, if possible.

--- One simple principle that will dramatically improve all your learning abilities!

The key to effective and productive learning lies in smartly managing the ideas and notes that come to mind in a moment.
This book, "Zettelkasten," explains, through numerous experimental results containing psychological insights, how all learning abilities, including reading, writing, thinking, and analytical skills, can be explosively improved simply by creating connections between notes and storing them in specific spaces, represented by boxes.
The simple note-taking techniques presented in this book will allow you to focus on what really matters: thinking, understanding, and developing new ideas, rather than wasting time searching through past materials, quotes, and references.
You can use the latest smart note-taking apps like Evernote, Notion, Obsidian, and Rom Research, or just use pen and paper.
If you just know the principles, you can be most productive right now.
No matter what tool you use, if you have a second brain called Zettelkasten, you'll be down in one's own language is nothing more than a feeling that will soon evaporate.

When Niklas Luhmann's book "Social Systems" was published in 1987 and numbered "666" in the bibliography, people thought that this numbering was no coincidence.
Luman's prolific abilities were so mysterious that they could only be explained as the result of a deal with the devil.
However, an analysis of the 90,000 or so notes left behind by Luhmann revealed that the notes were densely connected in a manner similar to techniques known today as hyperlinks or hashtags, and that the secret to his explosive productivity was the consistent creation of such connections.
Now that we have smart note-taking apps that can easily create hyperlinks, hashtags, and backlinks, there's no reason why we can't achieve Luhmann's level of skill.
“No one can think without writing,” Luhmann declared.
Looking into the box of notes he left behind, we realize how inefficient and short-sighted the activities we think of when we think of learning—diligently underlining notes in a book and copying them over and over until the notebook is black—are.
Instead of underlining and copying, simply “translate” what you read into your own words, take notes, and then connect those notes—this simple principle alone will lead you to learning outcomes you've never experienced before.
I guarantee that this book, 『Zettelkasten』, which embodies all of these principles,
