Into the book
What is remarkable about Brother Laurent's teachings is that he was not an intellectual who pursued conscious and detailed methods, but rather cut straight to the heart of the matter and went straight to the goal.
Laurent offers a universal way to pursue God.
Seeking God requires 'practice', just like breathing to live.
But the practice must be done 'in holy freedom, without worry or anxiety.'
--- p.19-20
Whether we are working or engaging in other activities, whether we are engaged in mental pursuits like reading or writing, or even in outward acts of worship like audible prayer, we should pause occasionally to worship God from the depths of our hearts.
You should do it as often as possible, sometimes just in passing, even if it's secret.
If we knew that God was before us and at the center of our souls while we worked, why should we not, at least for a moment, stop our outward work and turn our gaze inward to worship Him, praise Him, offer our hearts, and give Him thanks?
--- p.33
God does not ask us to do great things.
Just remember Him from time to time and worship Him for a little while.
Sometimes we should ask for grace, sometimes we should tell Him of our suffering, sometimes we should thank Him for the grace He has given us in our work, and as often as possible we should seek comfort with Him.
Whether you are eating or talking, look up to Him often in your heart.
God is very pleased when we remember Him even for a little while.
There is no need to shout loudly to do so.
He is closer to us than we think.
--- p.74
Whenever Laurent fell, he would confess his sins to God and say:
“If God permits, I will never do anything differently.
“It is up to God to stop me from falling and to correct what is not good.” Then he did not worry about his mistakes again.
--- p.113
Two of them pushed Laurent to the limit.
But he bore them with remarkable patience, and in the midst of his sufferings he never lost the same composure of mind as when he was at his healthiest.
When he was first sick, he expressed a desire to leave this world as soon as possible.
When I felt my fever go down, I said this to the doctor.
“Oh, your treatment is so effective for me that it actually delays my happiness!” During my second illness, it didn’t seem like that at all.
He was completely indifferent to life and death, and had resigned himself entirely to the will of God.
Whether living or dying, he was content, and wanted nothing but to follow God's providence.
--- p.169
We can also find important references to this topic in Laurent's dialogue.
He says that God's presence is something that must be maintained with the heart and love rather than with reason and words.
“In the way of God, thoughts are of no value, love is everything.”, “And there is no need to do anything great (I am describing a common kitchen worker, so please excuse my paraphrasing).
Even when I flip an egg in a frying pan, I do it for the love of God, and when I'm done and have nothing better to do, I fall to the floor and worship God who gave me the grace to do it.
Then, I get up with a proud heart like a king.
When nothing else can be done, it is enough to pick up a rag from the ground for the love of God.”

Publisher's Review
It was the most ordinary
Showed the greatest faith
Spirituality of the Carmelite Friars
We seek to meet God, converse with Him, and become closer to Him through prayer and Mass.
But in reality, there are many times when God feels so far away.
Can we never reach Him, who seems so far away, so unreachable?
Here's an investigation.
He was a very ordinary Carmelite monk, seemingly unremarkable.
This lame monk, who did all kinds of odd jobs in the monastery, such as kitchen work, shoe repair, and wine delivery, did not make any notable appearances, performed any miracles, or leave behind any great writings.
He has been demonstrating a deep spirituality that has inspired many people for over 400 years.
The name of this investigation is 'Brother Laurent of the Resurrection'.
He teaches us how to become closer to God in our daily lives through ‘Practice of God’s Presence.’
The book that contains the spirituality and life of Brother Laurent is “Practicing the Presence of God,” recently published by Catholic Publishing House.
This book is a new edition of “Practicing God’s Presence,” published in 2007. It has a luxurious leather cover and hardcover binding, enhancing its collection value and portability.
“I also flip eggs in a frying pan
“I do it for the love of God.”
The spirituality of Brother Laurent of the Resurrection is to remain completely in God through the practice of God's presence, believing in and loving only Him.
It is about constantly conversing with God and speaking to Him intimately, not only when praying, but also when doing the most trivial and humble things, that is, at every moment.
Brother Laurent laments the fact that God has infinite treasures, yet many people do not know about them.
He can say such things because he has experienced grace through practicing God's presence.
In this way, we become one with God and show unwavering faith and love for Him.
As you read through his life, along with the aphorisms and letters left by Brother Laurent himself, contained in this book, you will come to realize something.
Brother Laurent's spirituality is very simple.
It is to stay with God in your heart and not think of anything else but Him.
He demonstrates throughout his life, and even until the moment of his death, that by doing so, one can enjoy the same happiness as in heaven.
If I were a preacher, I would preach nothing but the practice of God's presence.
If I were a leader, I would encourage everyone to practice God's presence.
That's why I think it's necessary and easy.

The easiest spirituality to practice
Many people worry about how to live a life of faith while living in the secular world.
Because there are so many factors that hinder us from approaching God.
On the one hand, there are many people who think that they can only practice their faith by going to church and neglect it on a regular basis.
To us, Brother Laurent tells us that we can be with God anytime, anywhere.
Joseph de Beaufort, who spoke directly with Brother Laurent of the Resurrection and compiled his life and writings, says:
Brother Laurent urged those who live their lives preoccupied with appearances rather than depth not to overlook the presence of God.
We can listen more attentively to Laurent's advice because he speaks of everyday, ordinary life.
Laurent was a cook and a shoe repairman, and he knew all too well the stress and overwork of busy times, the discontent of people, the monotony and fatigue of daily routines, and the endless tasks.
In this situation, he had time for introspection and sought God's presence.
He also recommends taking advantage of the moments that are 'blindly passed' during the day.
In this way, we can see that the formation of Brother Laurent is not at all difficult, but rather a spirituality that can be easily practiced at any moment of daily life.
Transcending denominations
Through the spirituality of Brother Laurent of the Resurrection
May we become closer to God
The spirituality of Brother Laurent of the Resurrection has been widely known not only among Catholics but also among Protestants from early on.
John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, is said to have recommended that his assistant preachers read Brother Laurent's writings.
Aldous Huxley, the British author known for his work Brave New World, also said of the Laurent brothers, “Laurent has achieved a kind of reputation among people who are indifferent to contemplative prayer and spiritual practice.”
In this way, Brother Laurent's spirituality had a significant influence on countless people beyond Christian denominations.
Following Brother Laurent's spirituality, we are moved by his humble faith and following of God throughout his life, and we realize how important the 'presence of God' is to us.
Practicing the presence of God is not just for monks and priests.
You can reach God's presence while working on your computer at work, doing housework, or walking down the street.
The person who proved this is Brother Laurent of Resurrection.
This is why we must read the classic work, The Practice of the Presence of God, and put its spirituality into practice today.
Laurent showed that even the most insignificant and insignificant life can be so full, happy, and rich in the presence of God.
This is the great spirituality that Brother Laurent left us today, a spirituality that allows us to approach the presence of God.
