Self-evaluation progress
Self-evaluation progress
Description
Book Introduction
Along with “Gungtongbogam (窮通寶鑑)” and “Jeokcheonsu (滴天髓)”, it is one of the three basic books of fortune telling and the most basic book for judging the four pillars of destiny. It is a classic that anyone studying fortune telling must read.
It is no exaggeration to say that one cannot talk about fortune telling without mastering the self-evaluation method, as this book logically and systematically explains the basics of fortune telling.

However, most of the previously published commentaries are not faithful to the interpretation of the original text, but rather are composed of rough translations and the translator's own opinions, making it difficult for the reader to distinguish between the original author's thoughts and the translator's thoughts.
Also, most of the other books titled “Japyeongjinjeon” do not focus on the interpretation of the original text, but rather on adding the translator’s personal opinions.
As a result, there are many self-evaluation books on the market, but there is no book that properly interprets Sim Hyo-cheom's "Self-evaluation Book."

Accordingly, the three translators, who have studied Chinese characters and fortune-telling together for a long time, decided to convey the original author Shim Hyo-cheom's claims without any additions or subtractions through correct interpretation, and this book is the result of their efforts.
This book boldly ignores Seorak-o's commentary and faithfully interprets the original text, organizing it in a clear and concise manner.

Translator's Note

Publisher's Review
『Japyeongjinjeon (子平眞詮)』, along with 『Gungtongbogam (窮通寶鑑)』 and 『Jeokcheonsu (滴天髓)』, is one of the three basic books of fortune telling and the most basic book for judging the four pillars of destiny. It is a classic that anyone studying fortune telling must read.
It is no exaggeration to say that one cannot discuss the study of fortune telling without mastering the principles of self-assessment. This book logically and systematically explains the basics of fortune telling.
However, most of the previously published commentaries are not faithful to the interpretation of the original text, but rather are composed of rough translations and the translator's own opinions, making it difficult for the reader to distinguish between the original author's thoughts and the translator's thoughts.
In addition, among the books published in Chinese originals, there is no 『Zapyeongjinjeon』, but there is 『Zapyeongjinjeon Pyeongju』, which is an annotated version of it. However, when domestic scholars translated and published this 『Zapyeongjinjeon Pyeongju』, they gave it the title 『Zapyeongjinjeon』, which made the distinction between the two ambiguous.

『Japyeongjinjeon』 was written by Sim Hyo-cheom, and 『Japyeongjinjeonpyeongju』 was published later by Seo Rak-o with his own opinions added. Since Sim Hyo-cheom's writing and Seo Rak-o's writing are mixed in with each other, it can easily cause confusion for those who are not familiar with fortune-telling.
Moreover, there are many conflicting parts in the claims of Sim Hyo-cheom and Seo Rak-o, making it difficult to distinguish and read Sim Hyo-cheom's claims.
Additionally, most of the other books titled “Japyeongjinjeon” do not focus on the interpretation of the original text, but rather on adding the translator’s personal opinions.

These days, fortune telling books are flooding the bookstores without any clear standards, talking about 'fate', making it difficult to distinguish between the good and the bad.
Amidst the flood of fortune telling books, I hope this book will contribute even a little to the development of Korean fortune telling.
