Warm and powerful comfort from bestselling author Hong Min-jeong.
Jae-eun, who is always worried, has trouble sleeping as all sorts of worries come to mind as the new school year approaches.
Fortunately, the worries that had been floating around in her head did not become reality, but new worries plague Jae-eun again.
Then, quite by chance, she stumbled upon an unfamiliar store. A sign proclaimed, "Wash Your Worries!" It was a strange laundromat, with no dirty laundry, no spinning washing machines, and no one doing laundry. However, upon hearing the explanation that doing the laundry would make her worries disappear for a selected amount of time, Jae-eun pressed the START button, half curious and half worried.
But then something amazing happens.
All my worries have truly disappeared.
Unlike usual, Jae-eun no longer worries about tests or homework.
The friends who saw this looked at Jae-eun with strange eyes, but Jae-eun didn't seem to mind.
But after the exact amount of time you choose, you go back to being your original worry-buster as if nothing had happened.
Jae-eun, who has experienced the worry laundry once, increases the laundry time by 1 hour, 12 hours, and feels that if she doesn't wash her worries, she will be crushed by worries and won't be able to endure even an hour...

Into the book
It was when Jae-eun gathered her courage, picked up her bag, and raised her head.
I saw an unfamiliar store right in front of me that I had never seen before.
There was a sign at the entrance with the following written on it:
Worry Laundry
The VR washing machine will wash away your worries.
'Wash away your worries? How? With water? No way... .'
Jae-eun pressed her body against the glass door.
There were no workers or washing machines to be seen inside the store.
There wasn't even a single piece of clothing hanging, which should be a given in a laundry.
Jae-eun took a step back and looked up at the sign again.
The moment the words 'virtual reality' clearly caught my eye, I remembered the VR cafe I had visited with my uncle a few days ago.
As Jae-eun put on the large, heavy VR goggles that looked like diver's glasses, her body floated in the sky like a hot air balloon.
Before my eyes, a view of the earth from the sky spread out.
Only then did I realize why the laundromat didn't have a washing machine.
Jae-eun entered the store carefully.
As soon as the door closed, I heard a voice guiding me.
“Welcome to the Worry Laundry.
This is an unmanned VR laundromat.”
Jae-eun slowly looked around the laundry shop.
There was a VR machine installed on a wall that was not visible from the outside, and instructions for using it were written on it.
I was impressed by the explanation that my worries would disappear during the time I washed my clothes.
I thought it would be really nice if I could just forget my worries for a little while.
But that didn't mean I could just put the goggles on my head.
A new worry began to form in Jae-eun's head.
'Is this a proper machine? What if something strange happens?'
Despite her worries, Jae-eun's hand soon picked up the goggles.
I figured that even if it broke down and didn't work, I wouldn't lose anything.
Because I won't be more worried than I am now.
Jae-eun took a deep breath and put on her goggles.
When I moved my hand and pressed the START button that appeared in the middle of the screen, buttons labeled 1 hour, 12 hours, and 30 days appeared, respectively.
Jae-eun chose the '1 hour' button.
“I’m starting to worry about laundry for an hour.”
A message flashed on the screen along with voice guidance.
And a few seconds later, the screen changed to a view of the inside of a washing machine, with water pouring out from all sides.

Publisher's Review
Efforts that shine the light of worry
If you think about it, our lives are full of worries.
It feels like there are far more trivial worries than happy and exciting things.
Starting with wishing for a harmonious and healthy family, living without worrying about money, achieving one's dreams someday, and a world of peace, there are so many things that make you feel uneasy, like "I can't be late today," "I have to do well on this test," and "It can't rain when I go out this weekend."
Jae-eun in the story was like that too.
From the first day of the new school year, I couldn't stop worrying about being late, about my friend forgetting what they had promised him, or about stuttering and shaking during my presentation.
Fortunately, the things I was worried about didn't happen.
Even after the new school year began, I was in the same class as my close friend Ayoung, met her on time for our appointments, and wasn't paired up with Seungmin as I had hoped.
But that doesn't mean Jae-eun's worries will stop.
Why else would the Worry Laundry appear before her eyes, telling her to wipe away all her worries? Thanks to the Worry Laundry, Jae-eun's worries were washed away, but in reality, the anxiety only vanished. There may or may not be more to worry about.
Likewise, even if you live with worries like the original Jae-eun, the probability of something really worrying happening will be similar.
Perhaps the author wanted to provide comfort to worry-mongers like Jae-eun so that they don't end up destroying their own minds.
And I think the readers will be comforted enough to see Jae-eun's daily life at ease after visiting the worry-free laundry shop.
The story goes like this: “Don’t worry too much.
It doesn't stop at comforting words like, "Everything will be okay."
There's no need to worry about things that may never happen, but it also makes it clear that worrying can actually help things work out positively.
Because Jae-eun worried about every little thing and tried to avoid anything that would make her worry, she would have met her friends on time, studied well, eaten a variety of foods without being picky, and given a good presentation.
As the author and illustrator unanimously stated in the author's note, I nodded in agreement at the statement that the development of the coronavirus vaccine and treatment, as well as the growth of diligent individuals, were all thanks to worry.
So, I tell the worry-makers of the world:
It's okay to worry!
The power of warm concern filled with encouragement
Jae-eun has a grandmother who is sick.
When I was taken to the hospital in an ambulance at dawn a month ago, I thought I would never see my grandmother again, but thankfully, she is now at home with me.
She is very attached to her grandmother, who took care of her in place of her working parents, and she worries about her as well.
Jae-eun and her parents' concern for her grandmother makes her take care of her grandmother's meals and medicine, and make her visit her grandmother at least once more.
Grandma seems to feel the worries and concerns of such families and gain a little more strength.
There is a lot of support in the worry.
When Jae-eun prepares for a presentation with her friends, she keeps practicing not just to satisfy her own greed.
This may be because if a friend speaks loudly and shows off the materials they have prepared well, they will gain confidence, receive a lot of applause, and be able to celebrate together.
It was very satisfying to see Jae-eun and her friends working together to prepare a group presentation, and then happily go eat tteokbokki after finishing it.
The reason the children are so excited isn't just because Hong Jae-eun's nagging is over.
Didn't you naturally feel that there was warm support in your friend's nagging and worries?
Making your own choices and taking responsibility for your own decisions
One day, worry-buster Jae-eun suddenly appears in front of her and washes away her worries at the worry laundry.
I was worried for a moment whether it was the right machine or if something strange was happening, but before I knew it, I pressed the START button.
What would I have done if I were a person who usually worries a lot? Choosing between the 1-hour, 12-hour, and 30-day buttons might have been difficult.
But Jae-eun was surprisingly quick in her choices.
I don't know if I chose the 1-hour button timidly because I was worried and cautious, but I made the decision anyway.
And once again, I find myself looking for a laundry service.
And all the decisions, including the final choice, were made by Jae-eun herself.
I think that through the process of making choices, gaining experiences, and making new choices again, Jae-eun learned to take responsibility for her own decisions and grew a little.
Did Jae-eun, a worrier, find happiness after washing away her worries at the Worry Laundry? Was it better to live a life of constant worry? Well, we have no way of knowing Jae-eun's true feelings, but we, the readers, can ask ourselves this question.
Okay, now I'm standing in the worry laundry.
A guidance voice is heard.
