Publisher's Review
In 『Gardening a Blooming Garden 365 Days a Year (Revised and Expanded Edition)』, Professor Jeong Gye-jun tells us why we need gardens, how enjoyable gardening can be, and what functions and effects gardens provide, before beginning to write in earnest about gardens.
In this book, Professor Jeong focuses on how to cultivate an eco-friendly ecological garden.
We are pursuing a garden that is not just filled with flowers and trees, but also a garden where various animals such as birds, butterflies, and bees live together.
So, this book focuses on landscape trees, fruit trees, and wild flowers that can be grown without using pesticides.
This book is based on the knowledge and experience Professor Jeong has gained from personally tending gardens over the past several decades.
In fact, Professor Jeong is cultivating an ecological garden of about 1,200 pyeong in Sacheon-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, a paradise of over 400 species of trees.
The book first categorizes garden styles into natural landscape, formal, eclectic, and ecological gardens, and then introduces Korean gardens, Chinese gardens, Japanese gardens, and Western gardens in detail with various photos.
Then, it explains the conditions, scale, and cost of creating a garden, and shows the actual garden decoration process, including garden design, construction period, and components.
A large portion of this book is devoted to garden trees and wildflowers.
How to choose and obtain good garden trees and wildflowers, introduces about 180 species of garden trees and 110 species of wildflowers for different purposes, and explains the various characteristics of flowers and flowering trees that bloom in the four seasons of spring, summer, fall, and winter with photos.
In particular, the part that explains in detail, with illustrations, various garden tree propagation methods such as seed propagation, division, cuttings, layering, and grafting, as well as their various characteristics, advantages, and disadvantages, is eye-catching.
Finally, we introduce a vegetable garden that can be cultivated even with a small piece of land. We introduce methods for cultivating a vegetable garden and about 20 types of crops, and provide basic botany knowledge that gardeners must know.
This book is also friendly to garden beginners.
It provides a variety of gardening tips for beginners, from how to create your own garden to how to choose premium landscaping trees, which trees to avoid in your home garden, how to care for pine trees, and how to make green tea.
As a bonus, it also provides detailed information on garden management for all twelve months of the year, from January to December.
Difficult and unfamiliar garden terms are explained separately, so even beginners in gardening or those who are unfamiliar with plants will not have any difficulty reading this book.
This book, "Cultivating a Blooming Garden 365 Days a Year (Revised and Expanded Edition)," is expected to be a good friend and guide for all those who dream of cultivating a garden at home.
Professor Jeong Gye-jun described the joy of gardening this way.
“Gardening is an act of bringing nature into our lives.
I've loved growing flowers since I was little.
When I grew up, I used to imagine that even if my house was small, I would live in a beautiful garden with all kinds of flowers and trees in the garden and flowers blooming all year round.
I am happier than anyone else, living in a country house with a garden, just like I dreamed.
“Wake up in the morning, go out to the garden, take care of the flowers and trees, and chat. On my days off, I can spend the whole day in the garden. What could be more enjoyable than that?”
