In this book, Dr. Sinclair Ferguson invites us to the night Jesus was betrayed.
From washing the disciples' feet to the high priestly prayer, this book vividly portrays Christ's ministry and shows us the heart of Jesus.
Discover Jesus' deepest desire for his people and lead them to rejoice in the Savior who has overcome the world.
As you read this book, I hope there will be moments when you feel as if you were meeting Christ in the attic, looking at Him, and listening to His farewell sermon and prayer.

Into the book
Imagine you are climbing the stairs to the attic of a house in Jerusalem.
Here we eavesdrop on what happened in the late afternoon and evening before the crucifixion of Jesus of Nazareth.

In less than 24 hours the Savior will be crucified and die.
He, who knew well his certain destiny, wanted to show his disciples that he loved them to the end.

The Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke) show us 'His body'.
That is, the story is told from the outside.
But as the Gospel of John approaches its climax, we learn more about the Lord's 'inner workings.'
This is especially true from chapters 13 to 17.
Here we hear Jesus patiently teaching his closest friends around the Passover table.
The lesson lasted for hours, and it must have been a wonderful time with our Lord and Teacher!

From “The Mind of Christ”

Jesus wants his disciples to understand the significance of what he has done for them and the connection between what he has done and what they are to do.

The key to a transformed Christian life is knowledge.
It is not our affections, emotions, instincts, or even our will.
Christ will gradually change all this, but He will do so through an understanding of the gospel.
As the truth of the gospel influences our thinking, it begins to change the way we feel, what we want, and even the way we act.
In this way, the gospel becomes the driving force that changes the way we live.

--- 「2.
From “Knowledge and Blessing”

If you want to abide in Christ, let the word of Christ dwell in you richly.
Don't lock up any space in your life, don't close any cupboard.
Let that word illuminate your mind and warm your heart toward Christ.
Let that word make your will submissive to His will.
The word of Christ is the instrument used by the Spirit of Christ to cultivate our union with Christ and transform us into His image.
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another, just as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

--- 「7.
From "The True Vine"

We try to avoid suffering.
Christians do not enjoy suffering.
When we are under pressure, we tend to panic and give up.
But we can see what is invisible.
We can see that the Father is always working for us, in us, through us, and beyond us to accomplish His purposes.
He is forming within us a reflection of His glory.
If so, we can be encouraged to surrender to Him who molds us and learn to pray like this:
“Father, I am sick and tired.
But through this, please create glory within me.”
This paradigm was in fact the first lesson Jesus taught his disciples after his resurrection.
Do you remember what the Lord said to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus? “Was it not necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and then enter his glory?” (Luke 24:26).

If our Lord did so, so will his disciples (at least in a more reduced form).
