Description
Book Introduction
A luminous boundary that expands experiences and creates landscapes
- Exploring the uses of glass, which surrounds us in various forms.

Park Seon-woo (professor of architecture at Korea National University of Arts), author of “Glass Architecture,” says, “There is no building around us that does not use glass.”
As he said, if you stand in the middle of the city and look around, you will find high-rise glass-facade buildings in every direction.
Glass is neither a material that can be obtained from nature like wood or stone, nor a basic material that can be directly built upon like brick or concrete.

However, it has been used without fail to help humans maintain a comfortable life.
In the eighth issue of Sense Magazine, the Glass edition, we take a deeper look at the appearance of glass, which is revealed due to its transparency, by dividing it into four categories: exterior materials, windows, partitions, and everyday items.
Beyond its four uses, research is actively underway to add new functions to glass and construct it in unique ways.
Immerse yourself in glass, a modern material that enables limitless possibilities, from expanding human experience to creating new landscapes.

Publisher's Review
The "Gam" series, with nine titles published in just one year of sales,
All your questions about the basic materials of architecture
Pressed together in one place, 'explosive reaction'

Building materials that are difficult to find accurate information about even when searching the Internet.
From simple basic information to practical application methods, all compiled into one book.
The concepts and terms of materials scattered throughout the central heating system are organized and explained in an easy-to-understand manner with pictures and text so that even non-experts can select and construct them.

The response to the first three volumes of Season 1 of Gam Magazine, “Wood,” “Brick,” and “Concrete,” which were first released on July 1, 2017, was explosive.
As soon as it was published, it became a bestseller at Kyobo Bookstore, and in just over a year, it has sold over 15,000 copies.
Even before the publication of the collections “Paint,” “Tile,” and “Flooring” in February, 163 people sponsored the book over 30 days through Story Funding, raising over 11 million won.
It was evaluated as unusual not only in the independent publishing world but also among architectural books.
In June, the new publishing company GarmSSI was invited to the Seoul International Book Fair to exhibit its book, “The Age of Magazines,” and met thousands of readers over four days.
Accordingly, Gam Magazine decided to produce the “Steel”, “Glass”, and “Stone” sections to introduce useful information to more readers.

Gams Magazine: Insight into a Good Space

People are crazy about space.
A new space, a space I've never been to, a luxurious space, a comfortable space.
But the world focuses on what is visible.
If you focus only on what you see, your vision becomes blurred.
Solid knowledge and experience are essential steps to gaining the insight to see and discern things.
Insight is knowledge, vision, and a collection of wisdom that integrates knowledge from various fields.
It absorbs the conflicts between various values and harmoniously integrates them to suggest a direction for the future.
‘Insight’ is essential to finding a good space.

To learn design, you must have an understanding of the properties and handling of materials.
If you don't know the properties of a material, you will make mistakes in using and handling it.
Only by selecting materials that are suitable for their properties and using construction details can they be integrated and each play its own role.
The spatial sensibility of materials leads to a sense of place or taste.
Sometimes, we create innovation by expressing the original role of materials in a unique way and experimenting with different materials.
This creativity is associated with artistic activity.
It is difficult for an artist who does not examine the material to produce excellent results.

The materials and ingredients are so vast.
It is difficult to find data that reflects the reality of Korea.
There is no systematic research either.

“Where did the stones on the walls of my house come from?
What kind of glass is used in the windows we open and close every day?
“Is there a way to use steel, which is widely used as exterior or structural material, in a unique way?”

Steel, stone, and glass—these three materials may seem very different, but they all have one thing in common: they all come from natural raw materials.
Glass is made from quartz powder, iron from red iron ore, and stone from rocks, and then processed to be used as building materials.
Thin, shiny iron, transparent, smooth glass, and heavy, rough stone are the 'exterior materials' that determine the appearance of a building with their own distinct personality.
For those of you who want to understand the materials correctly, see the hidden aspects, and are curious about the materials that make up a city, <Gam Magazine Season 3> is an essential guidebook.

Accurate and systematic curation of building materials
- From wood, brick, and concrete to iron, stone, tools, insulation, and eco-friendly materials.

GARM, which deals with building materials, means ‘material’ in pure Korean.
We plan to continue publishing construction materials such as plastics and non-ferrous metals on an annual basis.
We will cover everything from consumer goods like tools that can be DIY'd, to interior elements like furniture and lighting, and we will also cover architectural issues that readers are curious about, such as insulation and environmental issues.
It consists of one book per material/topic, and the vast amount of information that is difficult to contain in one book will be divided into basic and advanced sections.
