Real study that lasts a lifetime
Description
Book Introduction
From the essence of studying to practical study methods
Teacher-Parents' Practical Study Tips for Their Children!
★What is the real study that develops the power to question and think?
★What are the lifestyle habits that foster children's self-direction and confidence?
★How should I study each major subject?
Studying isn't everything in life, but it's an inseparable part of our lives.
We live in an era where lifelong learning is essential, from school days through work life, and even into middle age and old age to adapt to a rapidly changing society.
Children, as well as their parents, have many concerns about what studying is, why they should study, what specific study environments and study methods are needed for each subject, and how to help their children lead happy lives.
This book is the result of twelve authors, both teachers and parents, working together to find answers to these questions.
I will introduce a slightly special teaching method that I have learned while teaching and raising children.

Into the book
How do current teachers raise their children?
Ironically, current teachers are working moms and dads.
These working moms are the ones who don't get included in most social gatherings, but strangely enough, their children get into prestigious universities and they raise their children better than other groups.
Teacher parents have their own secret to 'effective' study.
I have the know-how I acquired while teaching children.
We introduce 12 teachers' slightly special teaching methods to show how to make children's education more meaningful in a limited amount of time.
I hope that readers of this article will be able to draw up a roadmap for their children's education.
--- p.11, from “Prologue”
Wouldn't it be great if we redefine the essence of studying now?
True study is not just about 'accumulating' knowledge, but also about 'utilizing and connecting' the accumulated knowledge and further developing the 'ability to ask new questions.'
Let's change the purpose of studying to this. Instead of creating people who can solve many problems quickly or memorize vast amounts of knowledge, let's say we're developing people who can discover problems and solve them in their own unique way.
--- p.23, from “To a child who asks why he or she should study”
There is no life that is only successful.
The same goes for children.
You may fail a test, study may not go as planned, or feel upset when compared to your friends.
What is most needed at such times is not to scold them, but to be there for them.
Accepting failure as an experience and learning how to get back up again.
That is the most humane attitude a child can learn through studying.
--- p.28, from “Studying is the act of preserving humanity”
Give our children opportunities to try things for themselves, opportunities to challenge themselves, opportunities to give up.
They say that if you fail, you have to create an atmosphere where you can celebrate that you have had a new experience.
Through the process of taking on challenges, children learn to find their own path and develop inner strength.
--- p.40, from “Life teaches us more than parents’ words”
I believe literacy is the foundation for a child's entire life.
Children who have developed good literacy skills can express their thoughts accurately without misunderstanding what others say, and can also enjoy the joy of communicating through writing and speech.
Literacy is the 'power of life' that enables us to understand and solve problems we encounter in life.
What was most important for developing children's literacy was for parents to read books with their children, talk with them, and think about and reflect on everyday moments with their children.
I tried not to miss this moment, and I still try to do so.
If you can read life and understand others, wouldn't you say you've developed good literacy?
--- p.93, from “Korean Language: The Ability to Read Life”
If you focus on 'quick advances' and 'solving many problems,' you can miss out on the truly important 'deep thinking.'
On the surface, they seem to be able to solve difficult problems with ease, but if you twist it just a little or ask a question from a new perspective, they often hesitate.
So, by asking the question, "Why?", we must penetrate the essence of the concept, expand our own knowledge, and make mathematics a "living discipline."

Publisher's Review
A parenting book that will serve as a compass in the chaotic and rapidly changing educational landscape!
Korean teenagers spend more time studying per week than the OECD average, and the leading cause of death among Korean teenagers has been suicide for over a decade.
It is deeply saddening that young people, who should be dreaming of a bright future, are suffering from stress and depression.
The current educational landscape is changing so rapidly that we can boldly call it an era of great transformation in learning.
We dream of a world without private education, but Gangnam real estate prices are soaring around large private academies.
The statement by a person who got a perfect score on the CSAT that he only studied textbooks is so puzzling that it sounds like he also studied textbooks.
How can I raise my child to be a good and wise person who will lead the future society?
Twelve teachers who teach children in the classroom and raise them at home have courageously written this book to share their own educational philosophies and methods with parents.
For those who are unsure of how to begin their child's education, or who think it's too late, we offer study methods that can help you get started again.
Teachers' Hidden Study Secrets for Children
We've included detailed and user-friendly instructions on how to use a planner that can be used by children starting in elementary school, note-taking methods that are the most analog yet emerging as a study method in the AI era, study methods using ChatGPT, tools that serve as learning managers to create self-directed study habits, and environmental routines that enhance concentration.
Also, the Korean language learning method of Ms. Bae Hye-rim, who has been a high school Korean language teacher for over 20 years and is raising two sons in middle and high school; the real math study method of Mr. Kim Seol-hun, a math specialist instructor in Daechi-dong; and the practical English learning method of Ms. Kim Su-rin, an English teacher with 20 years of experience who has lived abroad for a long time and sent her children to international schools.
In addition, we carefully introduce social studies and science study tips from current teachers, study methods for entering international middle schools, related books, and proper economic education methods.
Studying to Get Back on Your Feet When You're Mentally Shaky
These days, parents sometimes consider failure a major flaw.
Some children cry or lose their temper when they lose a simple game at school, and parents also tend to feel guilty about making their children experience frustration.
But the world that children have to face alone is actually not easy.
Resilience to get back up after falling, self-esteem to be treasured at all times, basic health management to help you complete what you want to do, and how to maintain a lifelong parent-child relationship are all things we must study and understand.
When parents encourage their children's self-directed learning and support them without fear of failure, it is said that the children greatly benefit from developing a spirit of challenge and problem-solving skills.
This book provides specific examples of mental management and relationship restoration.
*This book was written by twelve teachers from the National Teachers' Writers' Association, and all royalties from this book will be donated to the Seoul Metropolitan Children's Hospital.
