Book Introduction
Let go, entrust your life to God
Enjoy true rest and peace

The bestseller, "Putting It Down," returns in a reissued edition to celebrate its 15th anniversary.
This book, which has recorded the highest sales for a book by a Korean Christian author in the Korean Christian publishing industry for nearly 20 years, has sold over 760,000 copies since its publication in 2006, and its sequels, “Letting Go More” and “Walking Together,” have been read by over 1.2 million readers.
This book, which is sought after not only by Christians but also by many non-Christians, has been translated into Chinese, Mongolian, Indonesian, and English and is loved by people all over the world.

Missionary Yong-gyu Lee, the 'Heavenly Nomad', devoted himself to being a missionary, giving up all human expectations, including the honor of Harvard and the assurance of a comfortable future, by humbly obeying God's words, "Lay it down, and I will fill it up!"
The essence of surrender he preaches offers modern people, struggling to take responsibility for their own lives, a way to entrust their lives to God and find true rest and peace.
The author's preface, which condenses the story of the past 15 years since publication, adds to the completeness by including the biblical meaning and insight of letting go.

Into the book
When God first gave me the burden to write a book, I thought that even if I published it, it would hardly sell.
Because I wondered if anyone would be interested in a personal history written by an anonymous missionary.
But after the book was published, amazing things started to happen.
…There were even instances where K-pop stars and Korean celebrities said on air that they experienced new changes through this book.
I heard that ballad singer Lee Soo-young released an album titled 'Putting It Down'.
Tony Ahn, who was also a member of HOT, suffered from depression and social phobia and lived a life dependent on alcohol, and even attempted suicide. However, he confessed that he experienced a change of heart after reading a book introduced to him by an acquaintance.
None of this was planned by me, nor would it have happened if I had planned it.
By simply submitting myself to God's pure guidance, not only I but also many people connected to me were able to enjoy God more fully.

---From "Putting It Down, a Story 15 Years Later"

Biblical letting go does not mean working hard to achieve something and then abruptly giving it up after achieving it.
In short, it is ‘the process of handing over control of my life to God.’
This may seem like an adventure to the edge of a cliff for modern people who believe they are responsible for their own lives.
In that sense, the decision to let go involves a journey of life following the shepherd through the dark valley of death.

---From "Putting It Down, a Story 15 Years Later"

We can't put down something big from the beginning.
Only after going through the gradual training of letting go of small things can you finally let go of big things.
This is how God trained Abraham in the wilderness.
Through his mistakes, he came to know God more deeply, and was eventually able to pass the final test of sacrificing Isaac.

A state-of-the-art laptop computer was number one on my list of possessions.
There were many valuable files inside that I had not been able to copy elsewhere.
It seemed as if God was asking me, 'Can you even give that up for me?'
I told him I would put the computer down too.
He confessed that he would trust in God and rejoice regardless of whether he sought it or not.
He also prayed that he would look upon Mongolia and the Mongolian people with God's eyes and accept them.
Then a peace that the world cannot give came over me.

The hardest thing to let go of is the desire to be recognized.
Especially, as a missionary and professor, it was not easy for me to let go of my desire for fame.
It's like an onion, if you keep peeling it off, you'll find another layer.

“God, you have seen the chronic problem within me.
I don't want this to grow inside me.
I want to put this down.
But I don't think it will be resolved easily as I want.
It may be a long fight.
“Give me the courage to start this fight.”
Only after preparing through prayer was I able to conclude the conference in peace with God's help.

We don't know what will happen next in our lives.
But one thing we do know is that God has something unimaginably wonderful planned for us.
A grand festival is being prepared and awaits us.
And then you ask.
'I really want to include you too.
'Would you like to go together?'
God does not immediately tell us what the festival is.
As always, it's like a surprise party, and only those with faith can imagine the festival even a little.
…Of course, despite our long-term dedication, we may not be given anything.
Even in that case, the reward of the kingdom of God will be given.
But it is difficult for it to become a dedication that expects something in return.
The greatest reward is experiencing union with Christ through devotion.
Our dedication itself is the reward.
