Book Introduction
Your work life needs to be reviewed now!
The meaning of rediscovering work through diagnosis, prescription, and sharing in the gospel

One of the places where our identity as Christians becomes most blurred is the workplace.
On Sundays, I confess my faith clearly at church, but as soon as I go to work, the familiar reality begins again.
In a world of overwork, results-oriented evaluations, meaningless repetition, and boredom, the confession, “I am a Christian even at work,” feels increasingly distant.
"I'm a Christian at Work" provides a biblical link to the disconnect between work and faith, leading us on a journey to bridge the gap between "work" and "Christianity."

Into the book
Many people are passionate about their jobs and the money, status, identity, pleasure, and purpose they can gain from them.
He is completely absorbed in his job and dedicates himself to it every day.
The main object of our passion, energy and love is our idol.
We may not want to admit it, but many people today idolize their jobs.
--- From "Chapter 1: Hasn't Work Become an Object of Passion and Worship?"

Laziness doesn't necessarily mean inactivity or lack of productivity.
This is an inactivity of the mind, an inability or unwillingness to see God's purpose in the workplace.
Furthermore, it is a heart that turns away from God's hand that refines us through our work, and a heart that rejects the Christian responsibility to "serve as to the Lord" (Ephesians 6:7).
If you keep thinking like this, the results will be devastating.
Because lethargy leads to discouragement, depression, complaints, dissatisfaction, laziness, passivity, self-consciousness, vindictiveness, and Monday blues.
--- From "Chapter 2: Aren't you reluctantly doing something that has become a means of making a living?"

The gospel is very good news for those slaves to sin who cannot pay their debts on their own.
The good news is that God sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, to take our debt upon himself.
Jesus lived the life we failed to live and died the death we deserved.
And finally, he rose from the dead and conquered sin, death, and the grave.”

This gospel applies to all aspects of a Christian's life, including his or her profession.
As Christians, we want to see the whole world illuminated by the gospel, and we want this amazing truth to illuminate every area, including the workplace.

Worshiping God at work means learning about God, seeing His work, and enjoying His presence while working.
When you discover creativity in your work, rejoice that it reflects the image of the Great Creator.
When your boss leads you well, know that the situation is a gift from God and rejoice.
If your boss is not leading you well, remember that there is a King of the universe who is better than your boss, and be glad.
--- From "Chapter 3 The Gospel That Changes the Way We Think and Work"

One of the motivations for our work is to reflect God's character in the world around us.
God created us in his own image and likeness (Genesis 1:26).
This means that we, as God's agents, are to carry out His rule in the world.
When we do this, we reflect His character to the world.
Our profession involves, in many ways, creating beauty out of ugliness and order out of chaos.
Scattered pieces are processed and assembled to create products that people can use, or new things are created using natural materials.

Another way we reflect God's character is through our exercise of authority.
Because God is the Creator of all things, he has ultimate authority over all things.
God, who created us, has also given us some of that authority.
What we have received is not unfettered autonomy, but rather vicarious authority, an authority that operates under His supervision and permission.
When we use this authority wisely and respect God's authority over us, we show people that authority is a good thing.
--- From “Chapter 4: The Motives for Various Works Presented in the Bible”

If you are looking for or think you have found one big thing you can call a calling, you have adopted a concept the Bible never uses.
Calling is not one thing in our lives, but every moment given, the 'whole' of life.
If we misunderstand our calling or think of it as some grand undertaking, we risk falling into idolatry or laziness.
Simply put, we will idolize that one great thing and become lazy in other areas God has placed in our lives.
--- From "Chapter 11: Finding the Meaning of a Calling Greater than a Job!"

Publisher's Review
Self-help books? In the presence of the Gospel!

Today's workers face a variety of concerns, including promotion, salary, leadership, and interpersonal relationships.
There are many self-help books that treat these concerns like mathematical formulas, but "I'm a Christian at Work" doesn't provide superficial answers to such concerns.
Instead, it brings about a fundamental change in existing thinking from the perspective of the Bible ‘before the gospel.’
Through this, readers will find clues to solving problems in various topics such as the causal relationship between fidelity and productivity, economic responsibility for family and neighbors, principles for using God-given authority, and attitudes toward superiors and colleagues.
For those who wish to advance toward the gospel without being crushed by the weight of reality, this book provides clear direction.

Insights from CEOs and Pastors, gleaned from the vivid realities of daily life.

The two authors are people who have deeply contemplated, in their respective positions, 'how to live the gospel in the workplace.'
Sebastian, drawing on his experience growing from a fledgling businessman painting floors to a CEO leading a company, and Greg, drawing on his experience counseling countless church members through their professional struggles as a pastor, have meticulously woven together their insights into the gospel.
They offer insights that are closely aligned with the realities of the workplace, including biblical teachings on motivation and authority at work, specific ways to share the gospel in the workplace, and three criteria for discerning what God has entrusted to you.

We work for King Jesus, and that changes everything.

The core message of both authors is simple but powerful.
"It's not what you do, but who you do it for that matters." Are we truly living well at work, where we spend more than a third of our lives? Often, people fall into "idol worship," seeking to define their worth and find satisfaction through their work. They also lose sight of their purpose and fall into "laziness," viewing the tasks assigned to them as trivial and meaningless.
Even Christians forget their own identity and become proud or humble in front of other people's professions.
But the gospel of Jesus Christ cuts off the roots of this distorted thinking.
When you believe in the gospel, your perspective on work fundamentally changes.
This change leads to true freedom in the workplace.
You will enjoy freedom from the inertia of mindlessly performing repetitive tasks, the effort to secure self-esteem through achievements, and the obsession with work that makes you feel like the world will stop if you take even a moment's rest.
Now we work joyfully for our King, Jesus, and serve others as we would serve Him.

The overall structure of the book is divided into three parts.
Part 1 diagnoses the image of ‘myself at work’ within the gospel.
Part 2 addresses practical issues commonly faced by working people, such as career choice, work-life balance, and the importance of careers, from a biblical perspective.
Part 3 shares the wisdom needed to live as a Christian in the workplace, offering advice and challenges.
Additionally, each chapter ends with Bible verses and application questions to help you think more deeply about the text, making it suitable for personal reflection, small group discussions, or book club readings.

This revised and expanded edition includes new chapters on the true meaning of calling (Chapter 11), the biblical foundation of workplace theology (Appendix 2), and ways to utilize one's profession for missionary purposes (Appendix 3), providing Christian workers with a broader perspective.
