Book Introduction
The great 19th century evangelist J.
C. Lyle's masterpiece!

““Holiness” is a great book.”
-Martin Lloyd-Jones, James Packer, John Piper, Charles Spurgeon, John MacArthur
· A complete translation faithful to the original text, presented with a new translation and new cover.

“Follow holiness.
Without it no one will see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).
Do you want to be holy? If so, receive and eat Christ, the manna, every day, just as the Israelites ate manna in the wilderness.
Do you want to be holy? Drink daily from the living water of Christ, the Rock.
Do you want to be holy? Always look to Christ.
Look to his cross and learn new reasons every day to walk closer to God.
Follow his example.
Look at him and pay attention to him.
Then we will put on His image and become like Him.
Look at him.
Before you know it, your faces will shine with His glory.
The sin that held you captive will be loosed and will leave you, and your eyes will be brighter day by day (Hebrews 12:2; 2 Corinthians 3:18).

Do you want to be holy? Come and trust in our Beloved (Song of Solomon 8:5).
The way to holiness is to know our weakness and to feel that Christ must be everything to us.
It is about enjoying Christ as the source that meets all our needs moment by moment.
We must obtain Christ and enjoy Him.
We must strive to be able to say this.
“The life I now live in the body I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).

Do you want to be holy? No one can grow in holiness without abiding in Christ.
Christ is the great source from which every Christian draws strength to move forward.
The Holy Spirit is a special gift from God, purchased with a price to be shared with His people.
Not only “accept Christ Jesus as Lord,” but also “walk in him,” “rooted and built up in him” (Col. 2:6-7).

How can we become holy? J.
C. Ryle says that true holiness is not simply a matter of belief and feeling, but a matter of action in real life.
By carefully examining and accurately quoting Scripture, Ryle shows the nature of holiness and the difficulties and challenges we face in pursuing it.
It points out the sin that corrupts our souls, the fight for faith, the price we must pay for following Jesus Christ, becoming a saint in the one true church, the body of Christ, and the abundance of grace that is poured out on those who daily strive for sanctification.
Although this book was first published some 130 years ago, it still shines as a treasure and a goldmine as a book on the Christian life.
