Jesus as seen through all the Bible
Description
Book Introduction
How do the words of the Bible apply to our lives?
How does each book of the Bible reveal Jesus Christ to us?

How does reading the Bible strengthen a believer and a church?

If you think you can live a life of faith without reading the Bible, you are mistaken.
Because they believe that they have confidence and love for Jesus Christ without knowing Him.
For churches and believers who wish to build a strong faith based on reading the Bible, a warm encouragement book and guide for reading the entire Bible, “Jesus Seen Through All the Scriptures” (Westminster Press Korea) has been published.

This book is not a methodology for reading the Bible.
This is a record of God's grace poured out on the pulpit of a church that loves the Bible and wants to live a life close to the Bible.
This is a collection of sermons delivered every Sunday throughout 2024 by Pastor Han Gyu-sam of Chunghyun Church, who has been conducting a 'Christ-centered Bible reading' with the entire church for the past four years, in order to encourage all church members to read the Bible through from Genesis to Revelation.

The Sunday sermon at Chunghyun Church begins with a brief overview of the Bible that contains the text.
It explains the historical context or background of the event and clearly states the specific parts to focus on when reading the Bible.
Thanks to this, believers are able to read the Bible not just by immersing themselves in the text, but also by examining their lives, this era, and even God's heart, and thereby establish a foundation for understanding the meaning of the Word.
Covering Genesis through Revelation, this book illuminates a variety of people and events.
Through this book, readers will realize that the Bible is by no means a boring book, and that each book is organically connected to lead us to an encounter with Jesus Christ.

The reason it is not easy to read the Bible in its entirety is not because the Bible is too difficult.
This is because the living spirituality and healthy biblical thinking that enable us to read the Bible and correctly understand its meaning are being blurred in the midst of the strong de-Christianization trend.
This book teaches Christians living in this age that the Bible holds the answers to all life's problems. Focusing on Jesus, who was crucified and resurrected for us, and reading the Bible will allow us to experience our sin-stained perceptions being restored by the power of the gospel.
When we are lost in confusion, it is the Bible that always shows us the way.
This book invites us to a life empowered by the Word.

Into the book
I plan to continue reading the Bible together with all church members for 10 years.
I am confident that God will be truly pleased if a church continues to train itself to read the Bible with a Christ-centered approach, take it to heart, and apply it to life.
This is a great blessing to pastors above all else.
As we read the Bible together, we experience the entire church being firmly established in the Word of God.
To encourage reading the entire Bible, I find passages from the Bible that my congregation is reading and preach on them in the sermons I deliver from the pulpit on Sundays.
As the whole congregation continues to read the entire Bible, I plan to continue delivering my Sunday sermons in this manner.

This book is a printed sermon that summarizes the contents of 36 sermons delivered throughout the year 2024.
As I was putting the sermon into writing, I had three wishes.
First, I hope this will serve as a resource for fellow pastors who, like me, wish to preach the entire Bible from the pulpit while reading it with a Christ-centered approach.
In fact, it is not easy to preach from each book of the Bible every week.
So, it would be a meaningful endeavor to examine the preaching patterns of other pastors.
Second, I hope this book will be helpful to the congregation of Chunghyun Church, where I serve.
A sermon is something you listen to with your ears and take to your heart, but sometimes you also need to read it with your eyes and engrave it in your head.
I hope that this book will serve as a tool for the Chunghyun family to reaffirm and re-evaluate the sermons they have heard.
Third, this is material for myself.
I intend to read this book over and over again.
For the sermons I will give each year, I plan to build on the sermons I have already given and then create new sermons.

--- From the "Preface"

To combat the challenges of life, we too need a community of faith that joins us in prayer.
Your home and church should become a community of spiritual support.
When we become a Jesus-centered community, our spiritual unity becomes stronger.
I hope that many people like Aaron and Hur, chosen by God and well-trained, will be established in the church, and that this will lead to spiritual unity.
Just as Moses' hands were raised and victory in battle was won by the power of Jehovah, so let us remember that the ultimate victory was given to us when Jesus' hands on the cross did not come down.

The Shunammite woman's blessing began with her encounter with Elisha, a holy man of God.
Her service to the prophet without expecting anything in return became the beginning of blessings.
We have a man far holier than Elisha.
It is Jesus Christ.
What have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God! (Mark 1:24) These are the words shouted by demons who had been possessing a man when they saw Jesus coming from the Gentile region called Gerasa.
They knew exactly who Jesus was.
They called Jesus 'the Holy One of God.'
Just as the Shunammite woman went to Elisha, the man of God, when she faced difficulties, we too must go to Jesus, the Holy One of God, when we face difficulties.
As children of God, let us always remember that we have Jesus, the Holy One of God, in whom we can find peace.

Everyone! Why is Jesus important to us? The truth that David long pondered and discovered has become easily and clearly known to us through Jesus.
Through Jesus we have access to God's power and 'his kindness.'
Jesus opened the way for us to enter into God.
This is the gospel.
Is there any turmoil or confusion in your life? If so, please look to the Psalms.
I especially encourage you to meditate deeply on Psalm 62.
In times of great confusion, I hope you believe that it is an opportunity to stand firmer before God only through Jesus.
God's kindness is full in him.

The prophet Isaiah metaphorically describes Israel's reliance on Egypt as "making a covenant with death and an agreement with Sheol."
The covenant with God establishes the saints firmly, but the false covenants of the world conflate them with death and make them inseparably linked to Sheol (the grave).
So the prophet Isaiah cries out that we can only survive if we stand on the right foundation.
Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "See, I am laying in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; whoever trusts will not be put to shame." Isaiah 28:16 This means that if the people of the southern kingdom of Judah do not rely on Egypt amidst the threat of Assyria, but rely on the cornerstone laid by God, they will not have to flee from war.
God also declares that because justice and righteousness are the attributes of existence, judgment will ultimately come upon those who take refuge in lies and hide themselves in deception.
(Omitted) Therefore, the prophet Isaiah, who knew God's heart, could not help but continue to call out to the people to return to God.
The stone laid in Zion tells us to rely on Jesus.
Of course, we cannot be certain that the people of Isaiah's time understood this stone to be Jesus.
However, when we look at Jesus' ministry after he came to this earth, the meaning of this parable becomes clear.
It is a prophecy that the coming Messiah, Jesus, will be placed in Zion as a stone.
A life founded on Jesus is unshakable and will not be judged as failing no matter what standard is applied.

At that very moment, Paul went forward to Jesus and the cross.
I decided to look only to Jesus and the cross, rely on it, speak of it, and preach it.
When Paul saw those who did not accept him, he did not look for other alternatives but held on to what was most important.
When you feel fear and trembling in a situation that seems impossible to solve with what you have, I hope you will look only to 'Jesus and the cross' like Paul.
For I decided not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified (1 Corinthians 2:2). Here, Paul's statement that he decided to know only Jesus and the cross does not mean that he has no need for worldly learning and knowledge.
What Paul is saying is that he will put Jesus at his center and other knowledge and experiences will be placed around him.
To avoid being shaken by the world's attacks, we must clearly distinguish between the center and the periphery and prioritize the center.
Beloved, when you feel like there is nothing you can do, remember Paul's teaching:
And I, brothers, when I came to you, did not come with eloquence or wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. (1 Corinthians 2:1) The original meaning of the Greek word translated as “beautiful” in this verse is “dazzling” or “excellent.”
This was because the Corinthians at that time were already accustomed to flashy teachings.
So Paul decided to hold on to the wisdom of God, not the wisdom of men.

Many people consider the Book of Revelation to be a scary and difficult book.
This may be because of the tribulation of the saints, disasters close to judgment, and numbers whose meaning is not easy to understand.
However, contrary to this prejudice, the Book of Revelation is a book full of hope.
For those who do not believe in Jesus, it is a warning of coming judgment, but for those who believe, it is a revelation of eternal victory.
As believers read the Book of Revelation, they have hope for eternal life with Jesus.
The hope for these last days also has to do with rewards.
The Book of Revelation contains a promise of rewards to those who overcome, but it seems that some believers are not particularly interested in rewards.
But to get through difficult times, we also need to think about the rewards we will receive.
Therefore, I hope you will live a life of faith with confidence in your superiors.
The Book of Revelation speaks of things to come, but it is meant to teach us how to live in the present while thinking about the future.
In other words, the focus is not on the future, but on how to live in the present.
In summary, it is easy to misunderstand the book as unrealistic because it contains many metaphors and allusions and uses symbolic expressions instead of factual content. However, the Book of Revelation is actually a very realistic book that supports the present life of the saints.
