Starting with the 2028 College Scholastic Ability Test, an integrated test will be implemented without elective subjects.
Accordingly, integrated social studies has become a required subject for both humanities and science students.
Integrated Social Studies, a subject learned in first grade but now increasingly important as it extends to the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), has become a subject of great importance. How should we prepare for it?

Integrated Social Studies is a curriculum designed to foster the ability to think and analyze independently, going beyond fragmented memorization.
It requires the ability to explore social phenomena in a three-dimensional way, crossing the boundaries between various disciplines such as ethics, geography, and economics.
Simple memorization or repeated problem solving is not enough.
A different approach is needed to develop core competencies required in the curriculum, such as analytical skills, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

《Integrated Social Studies Concept Pick》 was planned to meet the essential goals of this subject.
First, veteran teachers who have consistently participated in writing textbooks from the 2007 curriculum to the revised 2022 curriculum will thoroughly analyze the integrated social studies textbook and carefully select and introduce 50 key concepts.
It not only laid the foundation for understanding and analyzing society, but also helped students develop the ability to think for themselves.

Second, it goes beyond simply defining the concept, and you can see vivid examples of how it is applied in real life.
The two authors, who have extensive experience not only writing textbooks but also publishing numerous youth books, have dedicated themselves to connecting diverse social contexts, enabling students to experience the content as living knowledge and to train them to view social issues intertwined with economics, geography, politics, and ethics from an integrated perspective.

Social studies teachers and middle and high school students who were first exposed to the manuscript before publication unanimously agreed that the book served as a guide to understanding the world and broadened the horizons of their classes.
"Integrated Social Studies Concept Pick" will be a reliable partner who will accompany you through the journey from the first step of solidifying your concept to managing your grades through performance assessments and preparing for the essay exam and integrated college entrance exam.

Into the book
When students feel bored with their studies, these questions usually come to mind:
“What can I use this knowledge for?” This book is an attempt to answer that question.
The concept of integrated society is not a term in a dictionary, but a language that serves as a tool for understanding and operating in the society we live in today.
So, in this book, I tried to connect each concept to real-life situations, show how each concept meets other concepts, and what kind of social meaning they create together.
Because study comes to life only when concepts meet reality.
--- From the main text “Preface”

It is said that the river water expressed in bright blue is a realistic depiction of the Seine River at that time.
It turned out that at the time, there were many dyeing factories around the Seine River, and the wastewater generated during the dyeing process was discharged directly into the river, making the water blue.
Another question immediately arises.
So what was the government doing while companies were dumping their wastewater into the river? The short answer is: the government did nothing.
Because I didn't think it was the government's role to regulate corporate activities to prevent environmental pollution.
The reason something like this could happen was because the central value that dominated the world at the time was laissez-faire.
Since "neglect" means "to leave alone," does that mean the entire world is left to its own devices? Were people truly free in every way?
--- From the text "Laissez-faire"

Lego's production method faithfully follows the grammar of a multinational corporation.
Multinational corporations usually have their headquarters and research centers in their home country and factories and branches in other countries.
Multinational corporations that have grown further also have multiple research centers in developed countries.
In the case of Lego, we set up research labs in countries with large markets to understand the local situation.
Factories are built in developing countries where labor costs are relatively low and labor is abundant.
That is why there are Lego design labs in the UK, the US, and other countries, and block production factories in Mexico, Hungary, China, the Czech Republic, and Vietnam.
This is called spatial division of labor.
(…) Lego applied the idea of freely disassembling and assembling blocks to its supply chain.
A flexible production strategy was introduced that diversified the process of making blocks and parts.

Publisher's Review
Learning concepts requires different strategies for each subject!
- Concept learning completed through one scene per day, case study, and context.
- 1 concept per day, 50 days to complete

Each chapter of "The Concept of an Integrated Society" opens with a specific scene.
It begins by identifying key concepts in familiar everyday situations, such as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Pacific island nation of Tuvalu giving a speech while knee-deep in water, masterpieces by artists such as Jeong Seon and Claude Monet, advertisements encountered on the street, and scenes from movies.

Whether you're eating tteokbokki or sharing pizza with a friend, or following a captivating story that begins with a single scene in the news, you'll naturally connect the seemingly intractable concepts of social studies—neoliberalism, protectionism, multinational corporations, globalization—with their sub-concepts.
Because I encounter concepts within specific examples and contexts, the content does not easily evaporate and can become completely mine.

The structure of learning a concept through one photo or picture each day allows for effective one-day learning.
The table of contents includes a separate completion check box to help you feel a sense of accomplishment as you work towards your 50-day completion goal.
Words that require additional guidance, including historical context, are explained in separate tip boxes.
You can develop your vocabulary and literacy skills by experiencing rich social meanings created when one concept meets another.

A world map is inserted at the beginning of the text to provide a quick overview of the major regions covered in this book, and references and an index are included to allow you to move freely between concepts while studying.
This maximizes the training of integrated thinking skills and the expansion of understanding and thinking across academic fields.
"Integrated Society Concept Pick" is the optimal basic book for mastering the complex concepts of integrated society in just 50 days, as well as developing reading comprehension and humanistic thinking skills.
