Book Introduction
Music Theory, with rich content and friendly explanations
Let's learn and check for ourselves!

Music theory: Where should I start and how should I study it? Because music theory is divided into so many different sub-fields, it's often difficult to even begin and approach it.
There is a strong perception that listening to 'music' is easy, but learning 'theory' is difficult and boring.
However, knowing music theory will be extremely helpful in understanding and enjoying music.

"Music Theory" is a book compiled by two authors based on their know-how accumulated over a long period of time teaching music theory.
This book makes the in-depth and difficult parts of existing music theory books easier to understand and corrects errors.

Each chapter is broadly divided into three parts.
The first step in studying Western music theory is 'Basic Theory', 'Harmony' to understand the progression and grammar of music, and 'Musical Form' to analyze the structure of musical works.
The main concepts of music terminology are explained clearly and easily, and example scores and musical works according to the concepts are presented and organized in tables to help understanding.
Additionally, practice problems and answers for each unit are included so you can study and check on your own.
Let's start anew with just one book, 'Music Theory', the first step in music.

Publisher's Review
Book contents

The first chapter covers the basic theory, which is the first step in studying Western music theory.
In this chapter, you will learn the basic knowledge needed to read and write music, such as clefs, notes, rests, beats, scales, and tonality.
If we compare it to building a house, it is the work of laying the foundation.
We often think that basic theory is something we are familiar with, but when we actually teach it, there are many cases where even music majors do not accurately understand the concepts.
This part is essential for understanding Mars and the format that follows in the next chapter, so we recommend that you study it thoroughly.

The second chapter deals with the laws of Mars.
This chapter aims to cover the essential content of harmony to understand the progression and grammar of tonal music.
Learn the structure and types of triads and seventh chords, and how these chords connect to form a musical idea that leads to a conclusion.
Next, we will learn about non-harmonic tones, modulations, and chromatic chords, which make music more colorful and sophisticated.

The third chapter focuses on the formal framework for analyzing the overall structure of a musical piece, building on the knowledge acquired in fundamental theory and harmony.
First, we started with small units called thematic forms, such as motifs, phrases, and musical sections, and then covered two-part forms, three-part forms, sonata forms, and rondo forms, which are frequently used in tonal music, in that order.
In this chapter, we will not only learn the names of the forms and distinguish each part, but also learn the unique structure and characteristics of each piece.
