Grandma: You probably didn't forget either.
Five years ago, the autumn weather was as warm as today.
We spent the day uneventfully, waiting for our son's father, who had gone to work on the levee construction project.
We were going to get together for dinner—and then I said, "It'll be a little while," and, ah! It's still vivid in my mind.
The private door swung open, and a stretcher covered with a sack burst in. The repair union secretary, who'd accompanied me, stared blankly at the stretcher. He then placed a bundle before me, and, just like you're doing now, he said: "This is a jacket, this is a belt, these are pants, these are socks…"
Mother: (Crying, unable to bear it.) Mother! Why are you talking about that man who died so tragically? (Her lips, pale and trembling, tremble.)

Publisher's Review
"piece" is
This work depicts the downfall of two poor farming families, Myeongseo and Gyeongseon.
It was published in [Monthly Literature] from December 1931 to January 1932.
Although it was significant in that it allowed us to critically examine the dark realities of an era, it was also criticized at the time for failing to offer solutions to rural problems.
However, the desperate tragedy that realistically illuminates the sense of loss and despair felt by the common people shines in that it enables critical awareness.
For this reason, "Tomak" is considered one of the best realistic plays of its time, recreating the gloomy and impoverished reality of the colonial era.
It was first performed by the Theater Arts Research Society in 1933, directed by Hong Hae-seong.

"The Village Scene with Willow Trees"
This work shows the tragic lives of two farming families, Gyesun and Deokjo.
It was serialized in the [Chosun Joongang Ilbo] in November 1933.
In that it depicts the miserable reality of the lower classes during the Japanese colonial period, it belongs to the same series as “Tomak” (published in 1932), “Slums” (published in 1934) and “Cow” (published in 1934).
It was evaluated that it enabled a critical understanding of colonial reality and poverty by realistically depicting the loss felt by mothers who had to lose their children due to poverty and the way human dignity was completely destroyed through that tragedy.
He provided the script for the original play to the Theater Arts Research Society, which at the time focused on foreign play research and translated play repertoire, and Yoo Chi-jin personally directed and performed the play in the Theater Arts Research Society's fifth performance in 1933.
