You too are a sky hawk
Description
Book Introduction
A full-length novel by author Lee Geum-i, beloved by young people The revised edition of "You Are a Sky Butterfly Too" has finally been published! You too, Sky Mal Nari, the first book in the trilogy series! Actively reflecting the changing consciousness of the times and the sensitivity of adults! First published in 1999, “You Are a Sky Butterfly Too” expanded its target audience to include teenagers in 2005. And, to be precise, this book is a re-revised edition, as it underwent a revision in 2007. I am glad and fortunate to be able to revisit and reflect on the changes in the rural environment, improved human rights awareness, and gender sensitivity in the meantime. 'Skylark' is a flower that symbolizes Sohee. The reason why I titled it ‘I am also a Sky Butterfly’ is because Sohee has expanded her position in the work to that extent. And that's what I wanted to say to my readers. I once read a book review written by someone who had read this book, and the last sentence was, 'I'm also a sky hawk!' It was a thrilling moment of confirmation that I had connected with the readers. The reason why 『You Are a Sky Butterfly Too』 was able to lead to 『Sohee's Room』 and 『Finding the Hidden Path』 is because readers have consistently loved and supported Mir, Sohee, and Bau for a long time. I am so grateful and thankful. --- From the author's note |

Author's Note
Into the book
Mir was moved by those words.
I didn't want to go to an unfamiliar place alone with my mom.
Above all, if I stay at my uncle's house, I can see my father often.
Mir didn't know why his parents broke up, but he knew that his mother wanted a divorce.
--- p.16
“Our Baudo also has a Korean name like yours.
“You’re in the same grade, so let’s be friends from now on,” the old man said.
It seemed like Mom had told Mir's age.
When I heard the name Bau, I pictured a child with a plump, old man's face.
There's absolutely no way we'll become friends.
Not only Bau, but other children as well.
Because I won't give my heart to anything here.
--- p.21
I guess Mom decided to be grateful for everything when she divorced Dad.
If I had had that kind of mindset earlier, I wouldn't have separated from my dad.
Mir put down the spoon as if he was about to throw it away, then glanced at his mother.
It was always my mother who was stricter than my father.
But Mom didn't say anything.
--- p.30
Mir said that the child, who was moving around energetically, somehow did not look excited or happy.
It was strange.
Is it because of my heart?
It seemed that in this world there was nothing that the eyes saw first.
No, even if the eyes see first, it is the heart that accepts it.
If I was in a good mood, would that kid have looked happy too?
The boy looked as lonely as a bird sitting alone on a tree branch.
Mir, it was also his own appearance.
--- p.39
Sohee was displeased with Mir, but when she remembered him standing under the zelkova tree, her heart softened.
If he hadn't seen Mir's face alone, he would have thought Mir was an unlucky child.
--- p.75
“Grandma, you have to live a long life.
I will become a writer and write down all the stories that are in my grandmother's heart.
“You must stay healthy until then,” Sohee said, tucking her grandmother’s disheveled hair behind her ear.
Tsk tsk, poor thing.
The grandmother looked at Sohee as if she was caressing her.
--- p.86
A model student, an honor student, a child who grew up upright even without parents.
A mature child.
A mature child… … .
These are the words that follow Sohee around.
Except when she was very young, Sohee was never scolded by her teachers or grandmother for her mistakes.
Because I knew what kind of child the adults liked, I lived my life according to that mold.
The image of Mir bursting into tears while acting as he pleased came to mind again.
Sohee had never experienced anything like that in her life.
--- p.102
The name Sky Nari, which I found in the wildflower guide, went well with the flower.
They said that if you transplant it into your home, it won't bloom well.
Bau somehow thought that the flower resembled Sohee.
Bau repainted the sky lily several times.
I thought it was a flower like Sohee, so I felt like I had to draw it perfectly.
--- p.

Does Dad like the director? Was that why he just laughed when Grandma told him to remarry? Mir's image of himself crying over his father marrying another woman came to mind.
The voice that cried out, “I can’t forgive my father,” still rang in my ears.
I hate it too.
It seemed like Bau wouldn't be able to forgive his father either.
You like someone other than your mom.
Bow was as angry as if he had heard that his father was going to marry the director soon.

Publisher's Review
The 2021 revised edition of the timeless classic in youth literature, "You Are a Skyflower, Too," has been published.
Author Lee Geum-i's "You Are a Sky Butterfly Too," which became a bestseller through word of mouth among young readers after its publication in 2005, was republished in the summer of 2021.
Sixteen years have passed since its first publication, and during that time, Korean youth literature has gone through many changes and trends. However, 『You Are a Skyflower Too』, a masterpiece that will remain in the history of youth literature, is still loved and touches the hearts of youth in the present tense.
This is because the empathy and comfort felt in this writer's work are still valid today.
The author put a particularly long and arduous time into this revision.
Adolescence is a period of self-formation, and one is often influenced by the ideas and theories encountered during this time. This is because a single book read during this time can have a significant impact on one's worldview.
For this reason, author Lee Geum-i, with a great sense of responsibility, set the direction of the revision of “You Are Also a Skyflower” as “reflecting the consciousness of the times,” and carefully revised the work.
While preserving the original structure and story, we have strived to reflect the changing sensibilities of adults, the changing rural environment, and the improved awareness of human rights, as well as to use the language of equality we should strive for.
As a result, the revised edition of "You Are a Sky Butterfly" was born, which still delivers the powerful message to today's youth that "you must love yourself to be able to love others."
A sweet and bittersweet coming-of-age story of three teenagers who are drawn to each other but find it difficult to approach each other.
This novel features three young people.
Mir, who transferred to Dalbat Village against his will due to his parents' divorce.
Sohee lives alone with her maternal grandmother without even knowing her parents' faces.
Mir lost his mother when he was young and lives with his father.
These three teenagers have different stories and personalities.
But they have one thing in common.
The point is that they are not all of the family forms that society defines as so-called 'normal'.
All three children were deeply hurt by their family relationships.
Family is the first relationship we experience in life and is an important foundation of life.
Adolescents are alienated or hurt by their closest relationships, their families, due to unilateral decisions made by adults or when their opinions are not reflected.
But if you cover up a wound, it will only get worse.
It should be dried in the sun and in a well-ventilated place to heal quickly.
The first meeting between the three teenagers in this novel was awkward, but they too had been hiding their wounds inside, and one day, they began to reveal their raw wounds, finding comfort in each other and the scabs on their wounds began to heal.
And then, before you know it, your heart grows taller and you learn to accept other people without prejudice.
The sight of young people who know how to be honest with themselves and others is courageous and beautiful in itself.
A flower that knows how to love itself, we are all the lilies of the sky!
Bau, who loves growing and caring for plants, enjoys drawing detailed drawings of wildflowers in his sketchbook during vacation.
Among the many wildflowers, I remember the sky lily I saw in the forest behind the mountain.
A bright crimson flower caught my eye.
Bau looks at the sky and thinks of Sohee.
Bau, who has carefully drawn a flower, writes a phrase in a corner of his sketchbook.
“Skylark, a flower that resembles Sohee.
“A flower that knows how to love itself.”
The three, who have confirmed that their own wounds are actually a medium for confirming each other's sincerity, finally realize that they must learn to love themselves in order to understand and love others.
The three young people who eventually bloom brightly like the sky lilies give us new courage.
“We are all the sky’s stars!”
