Color theory
Description
Book Introduction
Goethe's 『Theory of Colors』, the first complete translation in Korea.
This book, Goethe's masterpiece that has recorded the third best-selling book overseas after Faust and The Sorrows of Young Werther, shows his scientific achievements that were not properly introduced due to his literary fame.
Unlike Newton, who perceived color as an objective reality unrelated to the observer's perspective, Goethe viewed color phenomena as a contrast between light and dark, and refused to acknowledge the reality of color itself, which exists independently of human senses.
This is an original theory that focuses on the organic relationship between human senses and objects, and is based on an instinctive awareness of the fundamental beauty and richness of the world.
Goethe's theory of color was completely excluded from the mainstream of physics because it lacked a mathematical system, but in the mid-20th century, it began to be re-evaluated as an alternative to the deterministic and reductionistic thinking of modern science.
This book is the twelfth volume of Minumsa's complete works on Goethe, and includes his theories on color and natural science.
