Description
Book Introduction
Following the winds of the 24 solar terms
Discover crafts from all four seasons
The author believes that nothing reflects the changing seasons and seasons as closely as crafts.
Because crafts are not simply functional objects, but art that captures human life.
This book was selected based on the 24 solar terms, taking into account the themes, materials, colors, and textures of our crafts.
Spring spoke of the vitality and hope that endured through the winter, and summer brought to mind the hard work of those who split bamboo and weave ramie somewhere.
Autumn longs for the warmth of hands holding a warm cup, and winter is the memory of white plum blossoms or quince berries in a round jar.
Let's follow the path of our craftsmen, who think about nature and human life, with 『Crafts of the Four Seasons』.

Into the book
As I walked along the four seasons, I witnessed the grass, flowers, and trees that bloomed and fell with each passing season, as well as the mountains, forests, land, water, sky, wind, and clouds that changed in color and shape.
Every time, I thought of the 'nature' of the craftsmen I had heard about, seen, and pondered over at art museums, galleries, festivals, and studios.
Among them, I put aside works that simply reproduced nature and plants as objects of personal appreciation or imitation, and pondered over which works would be good crafts that would open up new perceptions of nature and life, and wrote about them while collecting works to include in the book.
I wondered what criteria I should use to filter and organize the many works.
I have long believed that crafts have their own seasons, even if the artist does not include or mention words suggesting seasons in the title of the exhibition or work.
Just as flowers and plants have their own seasons, or peak times, the crafts we use in our daily lives also have their prime seasons, whether for use or for their suitability.
If you open your closet, blanket chest, or dresser, aren't there things that go well with spring, summer, fall, and winter?
Artists also prefer certain seasons and times when holding exhibitions.
When I interviewed writers while writing this book, most of them agreed that there are specific times and seasons that suit their work, so my attempt to think about nature and human life, starting with crafts, doesn't seem so out of place.
