Description
Book Introduction
“Everything was quiet,
We were always talking about once-in-a-lifetime feelings.”
The meaning of things that are faint but never fade

The 128th volume of the Consonant and Vowel Youth Literature series, “Soda Bubbles in the Ending Summer,” has been published.
『Soda Bubbles in the Summer of Extinction』 is a new SF-youth novel by Esther Park, who has received much attention in the Korean and international literary world with her occult YA novel 『Garden Revelation』 and K-occult fantasy 『Bad Goddess』.

Since the dawn of the space age, humanity has been living as a spirit, freely floating through space, interacting with aliens from other planets and galaxies beyond our own.
However, since the soul can maintain its most stable state when it has a body, everyone creates a body connected to their soul and places it on Earth, which has become a preservation planet.
Like other Earthlings, the protagonist Jang Mi-rae, who lived in space, is staying on Earth with Han Young, her lover from her previous life, after uniting with her body a few months ago to solve a certain problem.
And the future life that seemed to be going on as normal as possible is shattered by a prediction from space humans that there are 'apocalyptic people' among the bodies living on Earth and that many people will die because of them.

Into the book
What happened on Earth that year is something I will never forget, even if I move my soul to my next body.
Now that work has become the most important thing that makes me who I am.
--- p.7

The humanoid body was not suited to the space age.
Even if you refrigerate it, it takes a lot of money and space to maintain it.
After much experimentation and failure, Earthlings have adopted an old but new method.
Body on Earth, soul in space.
This was the slogan when the new body came out.
--- p.20

Now I felt like I could ask why it had to be Earth.
“Because I can live with other people?”
I felt a faint sense of guilt as I asked that question.
I'm driving the spirit now.
I'm just floating around, hiding my hopes that I'll be there for you in your answer.
Even though I knew myself like that, I couldn't help but ask that question.
Anyway, I'm nineteen now.
I have no choice but to ask, even though I know I'll regret it later.
--- p.63

Han Seong-je's words rang in my ears again.
You are not the future.
I couldn't understand what he was saying.
One thing is certain, Han Seong-je definitely knows me.
I know that better than you think.
“But why isn’t there a Hanseongje in my memories?”
It felt like an important puzzle piece had fallen off somewhere.
No matter how much I racked my brain, I couldn't figure out what it was.
--- p.112

“First, we need to find the doomsday theorists.”
We have to find it before the investigation team arrives.
If I don't do it, the Earth will just disappear after the investigation team arrives.
"What are the other Earthlings doing right now? The entire planet could be wiped out, and if we just do nothing and send an investigation team..."
--- p.123

Sometimes there are things you can't say unless you do it now.
There are feelings that cannot be expressed.
If you miss that moment, those words and feelings will just wander forever through the gap.
Knowing that well, I quietly relayed my answer.
“It was always you, Mirae.”
--- p.145

Even in old books, movies, dramas, and even the textbooks we study, love and affection are talked about, but none of us felt those emotions.
(……)
The important thing is that no one questioned it.
Anything that doesn't raise questions is buried and forgotten.
I mean, it's not that big of a deal to be curious about.
“Isn’t it strange?”
--- p.170

This was the choice of Han Seong-je and Jang Mi-rae.
I stand on their choice now.
And only then did I 'understand' that choice.
“So you chose death?”
Han Seong-je stopped moving at my question.
--- p.192

We created a miracle until the end.
It wasn't some miracle that someone gave me.
It was a miracle that I was able to create by staying alive without ending my world.
The summer of the end has melted away.
--- p.229

Publisher's Review
Presented by Esther Park, author of the series 『Psychic Girl』 and 『Michaela』
A journey to find the one thing that will fill our hearts

The 128th volume of the Consonant and Vowel Youth Literature series, “Soda Bubbles in the Ending Summer,” has been published.
This novel, which reveals itself with vague yet 'hip' words, is the new work of author Esther Park, who has been steadily adding sparkle to the global literary world with works such as the occult YA novels 『Garden Revelation』, the K-occult fantasy 『Bad Goddess』 that thoroughly captures Korean culture as much as 《K-Pop Demon Hunters》, and the fairy tale series 『Michaela』, which won the grand prize in the No. 1 Marshmallow Fiction Contest.
Additionally, 『Soda Bubbles in the Summer That Will Extinct』 is a novel that expands the worldview in a unique way that connects the narrative with the short story "Always Once in a Lifetime" included in 『March 2nd, the Day of Beginning』, the first volume of the "Seasonal Anthology" series, a series within the Jaum and Moeum Youth Literature series.
Readers of "March 2nd, the Day of the Beginning" have once again had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the story of the future and "that child."

Since the dawn of the space age, humanity has been living as a spirit, freely floating through space, interacting with aliens from other planets and galaxies beyond our own.
However, since the soul can maintain the most stable state when it has a body, everyone creates a 'body' connected to their soul and places it on Earth, which has become a preservation planet.
These bodies appear to live with free will, like souls, but in fact they are driven by elaborate programs.
So, they all have gentle and kind personalities and do not show their emotions more than necessary.
To be exact, you can never have strong emotions like 'love' or 'hate'.
Like other Earthlings, the protagonist Jang Mi-rae, who lived in space, united with her body a few months ago to solve a certain problem that was part of the narrative of "Always Once in a Lifetime," and even after everything was resolved, she voluntarily stayed on Earth.
Since I met Han-Young, my first love and lover from my past life, again after a long time, I wanted to spend a little more time with him.
Although he has actually lived for over two hundred years, his physical age is nineteen, so Mirae feels a subtle loneliness as she sees Han-yeong, who is at peace despite his arrival.
And the future life that seemed to be going on so normally is shattered by a prediction from space humans that there are 'apocalyptic people' among the bodies living on Earth and that many people will die because of them.

“The likelihood of bodies protected on Earth being attacked increases significantly.
It is believed to be the work of so-called 'apocalyptic believers'.
In this regard, I would like to find out who the 'apocalypticists' are.
Three, an investigation team has been formed and is heading to Earth.
We hope you will cooperate with the investigation team's activities as much as possible.
more."
“Wait, an investigation team?”
_In the text

The investigation team is already famous throughout the universe.
Because all the places they investigated, whether planets or galaxies, had physically disappeared for 'some reason'.

Mirae, who is anxious about the possibility of the end of the world, runs around the fields with Young and barely manages to find out the 'target' of the doomsayers.
And the fact that the mastermind is Han Seong-je, who strangely shows a hostile attitude towards the future.
Mirae asks Seongje to explain, but Seongje continues to reject Mirae, saying, “I cannot understand you, who are not the real future.”

“No.”
The hand that was stretched out awkwardly stopped there.
Han Seong-je's voice was trembling.
I was about to ask what it was.
But Han Seong-je's words were faster than my questions.
“You are not the future.”
_In the text

“Even if the end comes, I will protect this place.”
If you keep thinking about the end while looking at a flower in full bloom
It's time to complete my 'real self'

A future where, although it hasn't been long since I came down here, I have come to truly feel affection for Earth.
A spirit who knows all the future situations with the ability he was born with, but cannot say anything because of the countless other possibilities.
Seongje, an apocalyptic believer who chose an unconventional 'goal' as a last resort to protect his heart.
As the end of the world approaches inexorably, the future, the spirit, the saint, and 『Soda Bubbles in the Summer of Extinction』 move toward a conclusion that is both utterly science fiction and all too human.

We really connected.
With everything.
It was connected to every flower, every drop of water, every single gust of wind.
All orbits and times meet at one point.
_In the text

Young people often feel lost as they try to look into an unclear future.
I feel anxious and afraid of living without knowing what is truly important and what I exactly want.
But in fact, that kind of feeling of being lost is something that can only be felt during adolescence.
Living each day step by step without knowing what to find, and loving someone as your heart leads you.
Expanding my world and growing my self, even though it is difficult.
Isn't enduring this kind of despair and wandering through each day truly what adolescence is all about?

If the ideal image of adolescence is wandering, 『Soda Bubbles in the Ending Summer』 is a novel that will make that wandering shine even brighter.
A cosmic first love story, peppered with unusual elements not found in other loves, a story that begins with lilacs and leads to the end of the Earth and a new future. Let's wander and sparkle in this story that will shake all our hearts.

The end is not an end, but a new beginning.

I wonder what your end and beginning were.
