Book Introduction
The Truman School Malicious Comment Incident: The Best Coming-of-Age Novel, Picked by Teachers and Students
A youth bestseller for 16 consecutive years, a revised edition released to commemorate 400,000 copies sold!

A revised edition of "The Truman School Malicious Comment Incident," which has established itself as a must-read for young adult literature and has been a bestseller for 16 consecutive years, has been released.
The work unfolds in a detective format, exploring the consequences of choices and responsibilities hidden behind online anonymity.
The destructive power of a single carelessly thrown word, cyberbullying, bullying, jealousy, and other issues faced by teenagers are addressed through a sophisticated plot and delicate psychological portrayal.
The virtue of this work, in particular, is that in these times when discrimination and hate speech are rampant, it helps us think about where we stand on the line between perpetrator, victim, and bystander.
The selection and award records of various reading discussion organizations attest to this.

JB, dissatisfied with the way the school is run, creates a website called "Truman's Truth" where anyone can post anything related to the school.
However, the incident begins when, contrary to her intentions, an anonymous person posts a defamatory message about Lily, the school's most popular girl.
Due to the continued malicious comments, Lily is bullied by her friends and eventually leaves home.
Who is the anonymous poster? Why did he start doing this?

JB and Amour, who created 'Truman's Truth', Lily whose past is revealed, and Hayley who is picky about who she makes friends with.
Everyone is stuck online and struggling.
The novel invites the reader into 'Truman's Truth' and makes them chase after an anonymous person.
These exciting elements have been the driving force behind the work's long-term popularity and the Korean edition's sales of 400,000 copies.
This revised edition features a new cover and polished sentences that are friendly and approachable to today's teenagers, enhancing its quality and perfection as a bestseller.
It also includes several testimonials from teachers and students that shed new light on the book's appeal.

Into the book
Even though I'm so unpopular, I created the most talked about website in school.
This is truly amazing.
Yes, I am one of the hidden operators of the site called "Truman's Truth."
Another one is my friend Amur Nayser.
This article is about the website that Amur and I created and the incident that occurred because of it.

First of all, you might be wondering what and who Truman is.
Truman is the name of our school.
I'm talking about Truman Middle School.
But from experience, there are a lot of crazy stalkers online, so I'd rather not say more than that.
Let's just say that Truman Middle School is just an ordinary school in an ordinary town you might find anywhere in the American Midwest.
I am a third year student at this school.
Most of the other kids you'll meet in the future are also third-year middle school students at Truman.

When we first created this website, neither Amur nor I, nor anyone else, could have imagined that something like this would happen.
Because we started out with the idea that it was just a volunteer activity.
I hope you believe me.
Really!
--- p.18

But for me, it all started with an email I received from someone when the site first opened.
The sender of the email called himself 'milkandhoney'.
I couldn't figure out who it was, but I opened it anyway.
The email was just one line long.

You will fall!

Hey? Who is this?

My mom asked me why I didn't say anything when I first got the email.
But at the time, I didn't think much of it and just pressed the delete button.
And then I completely forgot about it.
But a few days later, I received another email.

This time it was written like this.

Haven't you seen The Truman Truth yet? Then you should go see it...

I was even more excited by this email.
This was the second email I received from a complete stranger, and I was furious because I felt like I was just sitting there and being subjected to it.
But there was no threat in this email.
It was just a question.

'You still haven't been to Truman's Truth?'
--- p.33

Who is the best Wangjaesu in our school?

I read the newly uploaded title out loud.
But it wasn't just a simple question.
When I clicked on the question, a picture appeared.
It was a picture of a very fat schoolgirl from her elementary school days.
It is not known who uploaded the photo, but the identity of the person in the photo was not revealed.
It led to speculation about who it was.
That was the purpose of this vote.

By the way, I didn't have to think about it for even a second.
Because I knew right away who he was.
It was the same in Amur.
Anyone who attended Hoover Elementary School can probably guess.
That was Lily Clarke.

A bestseller loved across generations
Revised edition commemorating the 400,000 copies sold in Korean

One post, hundreds of malicious comments
Going to Truman Middle School, which is turned upside down

To celebrate the 400,000th copy sold of "The Truman School Malicious Comment Incident," which has become a must-read for youth literature across generations, we have republished it.
The work clearly addresses the issues that need to be addressed in today's society, proving why it continues to be read over time and why it is called the best coming-of-age novel.

JB and Amour created a website for everyone called 'The Truth About Truman'.
It is literally a space where any Truman Middle School student can freely post.
Through word of mouth, school children gradually learned of the site's existence.

Even though I'm so unpopular, I created the most talked about website in school.
This is truly amazing.
That's right, I'm one of the hidden operators of a site called "Truman's Truth."
Another one is my friend Amur Nayser.
This article is about the website that Amur and I created and the events that followed.

'Truman's Truth' goes against its original intention.
Words spoken by someone reach the ears of others, and naturally, they inflate like balloons and float around.
Among them, the content that people are most interested in is provocative content.

Who is the best Wangjaesu in our school?
I read the newly uploaded title out loud.
But it wasn't just a simple question.
When I clicked on the question, a picture appeared.
It was a picture of a very fat schoolgirl from her elementary school days.

Lily's old photos are posted on the site.
The person who posted this is 'anonymous'.
The novel is written using detective techniques, using the point of view of each character.
As the story progresses, it keeps the reader on edge and makes them follow the clues to the story.
What kind of waves did the commonly used word 'anonymity' create?
Also, how should we view such anonymity?

“Someone revealed my past that I wanted to hide?”
Find the familiar face hidden behind the anonymity!

There is no way to know what expression is hidden behind the name 'Anonymous'.
It may be completely different from what is said, or even the opposite.
But there are reasons why we use anonymity, such as personal information and privacy.
Regardless of that reason, I think hiding oneself while revealing others is a problem that requires more thought.
Regardless of the standards of right and wrong in meaning.

Who is the best Wangjaesu in our school?
And underneath it all… there was a picture of me taken in the 6th grade.
For a moment, my body froze.
I cropped all my pictures when I was in 5th or 6th grade.
My mom was furious, saying that she couldn't keep the old photos anymore.
But I didn't care.
If it weren't for these pictures, no one would know I was so fat.
But in fact, that's what I looked like.
This photo was the proof.
My whole body started shaking.
In fact, none of my friends would know that it was me because nowhere on the site did it say that I was the subject of the photo.
You won't know at first.
But as anyone who went to Hoover Elementary School will know,
If that happened, it was only a matter of time before the whole school found out.

_p.64

The novel vividly depicts the emotions felt by Lily as she encounters the events from her perspective, as well as the people around her.
The perspectives of other characters written later show that the incident is not a problem of one person, but is repeated from multiple perspectives.
What's interesting is that the 'anonymous' point of view also appears here and there, blurring the line between perpetrator and victim, and allowing us to discover the novel's essential message.
'Anonymous' still wears a mask.
It might be someone close to you.
That's why we may be suspicious of each other or remain silent.

"The Truman School Malicious Comment Incident" is a vivid and vivid work that depicts the problems that occur online and how they are brought into the real world.
You've probably used 'anonymous' at least once.
Anonymity is more common than you might think, not only in comments but also in game IDs and SNS.
However, you need to check yourself to see if you are using 'anonymous' correctly and responsibly.

Living up to its name as a bestseller in the youth category for 16 consecutive years, "The Truman School Malicious Comment Case" has been given a new look.
Readers who have encountered the book before will recall forgotten messages within the novel, and those who have discovered it for the first time will enjoy a meaningful coming-of-age novel.
Let's follow the truth behind the Truman School Malicious Comment Incident through this commemorative revised edition.
