Into the book
Every morning, Shosho painted the petals and pinned the curved stems.

'I don't want anyone to find out I'm depressed.'
Her colleagues were often fooled by Shosho's unfamiliarly beautiful face and bright smile.

“Sho-sho, you look dazzling today too.”
“Isn’t it too perfect?”
A purple crescent moon was floating in Shosho's eyes.
Deep, calm eyes that seem to contain the night sky, silver hair that is always neat and tidy, and clear skin that radiates a glow.
The sparkly clothes she often wore there made Shosho look even more attractive.

But Shosho knew.
That his own flower is gradually withering and becoming ugly.
To avoid being caught, she wore more sparkly clothes and hid herself in a more perfect way.
The more I thought about it, the more my heart felt like a train that was running out of fuel.

“Oh, it’s so delicious.”
Shosho's suit translated the phrase as 'dog is delicious'.

“Dog tastes good? This isn’t dog, it’s hamburger.”
Then Anne laughed, "Phuhata!"
“I heard it’s really delicious.
“It’s silver.”
"I see.
“I don’t think this suit can properly translate slang.”
“Shoot doesn’t know slang?”
"huh."
Then Anne babbled with a playful face:

“This hamburger is so delicious.
This is the legendary vacation I will never have again in my life. Shosho is the best, and I am really lucky Vicky! Let's have a great vacation!” (This burger is really delicious.
This is the best vacation I'll ever have in my life, Shosho is amazing, and I'm so lucky.
Let's spend our vacation well, neatly and sensibly!)

“The best time was... when Anne noticed my flower.”
"huh?"
Anne seemed startled.
“I didn’t want anyone to see my flowers withering.
But since Anne noticed, my soul... ...felt at ease.
“Strangely, I didn’t feel lonely.”
Leah and Juri looked back and forth between the two as if they couldn't understand at all.

Anne said with a smile like sunshine.
“I’m glad you said that.
Shosho showed his true self first.
So I was able to show my true self.”
“No.
“Anne broke down my wall first.”
The two laughed quietly.
“Sho-sho, thank you for revealing your identity to me, for being my friend, and for creating a strange and wonderful summer vacation for me.
thank you so much!"
--- p.89~90

Anne's mother looked Shosho up and down once, then turned her eyes back to Anne.

"You still use that nickname Anne of Green Gables? It's so childish, man."
Anne's mother's voice grew louder.

"So, are you proud now? Did you waste your precious vacation doing this kind of thing?"
Anne couldn't breathe properly.
“There’s not much vacation left.
If you work hard and pay attention, you will be able to catch up quickly.”
Anne's mother added a word almost threateningly.

“When will you come home?”
If he didn't say today, he would drag Anne away right away.
Anne said in a dying voice.

“I’m going today.”

Publisher's Review
A story of fateful friendship between an alien and an Earthling!
The full-length novel “Earthlings from Today” will be published as the 46th issue of Tree Where the Heart Grows, marking the arrival of new author Lee Hye-bin.
"Earthlings from Today" depicts the story of Shosho, an alien who is tired of life for his own reasons, and Anne, an Earthling, who meet by chance and share their innermost feelings, heal each other's wounds, and form a friendship and grow together.

After graduating from a prestigious space school, Shosho participates in a competition to see if he can live as an Earthling when the exhibition hall he built with all his heart explodes.
Although I am not very interested in Earth, I decided to open an exhibition hall again after receiving the prize, 'Special Items of Earth'.

On Earth, where he arrived solely to win the competition, Shosho meets Anne, a runaway eccentric girl.
Anne's original name is Jisoo, but like Anne from Anne of Green Gables, she has a rich imagination and everyone calls her Anne instead of Jisoo.
Anne ran away from home the day before she was to start boarding school because she wanted to have a wonderful summer vacation.

When Anne finds out that Shosho is an alien, she suggests that they hold hands, and Shosho, who has no desire to interact with Earthlings, ends up joining Anne in a daze… … .
With increasingly challenging competition missions and a mysterious alien disrupting the show, will the two creatures get what they want?

We recognize and embrace each other, you and I searching for our selves.
Beautiful appearance, graduation from a prestigious space school, popular exhibition hall in space… … .
Shosho appeared perfect on the outside, but in reality he was tired of life.
All of the Shosho races have flowers connected to their souls, but Shosho's flowers have long since withered.
And no one noticed that Shosho's flowers had withered.
Shosho was obsessed with social success, and was unable to enjoy leisure or share his feelings with others.

Meanwhile, imaginative and bold Anne knows what she wants, but she is pressured by her mother, who values future success over present pleasure, and is unable to play or rest freely.
Anne could only be free in her imagination.

Shosho and Anne, who seem different but have similar wounds, come to truly understand each other as they spend time together and become each other's strength.

“I didn’t want anyone to see my flowers withering.
But since Anne noticed, my soul... ...felt at ease.
“Strangely, I didn’t feel lonely.”
(……)
“Sho-sho, thank you for revealing your identity to me, for being my friend, and for creating a strange and wonderful summer vacation for me.
“Thank you so much!” (pp. 89-90)

I am the only master of my life
Shosho finally realizes that what he truly wants is not social success, and begins to seek out what brings joy to his soul more than others.
Anne, though afraid, shows her mother the free life she wants, and eventually succeeds in persuading her mother with Shosho's help.

Even after Shosho returns to outer space and Anne remains on Earth and they grow apart, the two of them continue to create their present and future while wishing each other happiness.

“It means don’t worry about what others think, don’t compare yourself to others, and live the life you want to live...
This is harder than you think.
“I’m not very good at it either, but I’m still practicing.” (Page 67)

As readers watch Shosho and Anne heal their wounds and become masters of their own lives, they naturally begin to see overlap between Shosho and Anne's lives and their own.
"Earthlings from Today" is a work that encourages teenagers to meet special friends like Anne and Shosho, and to find the life they truly want without being swayed by other people's standards.
