Although King Sejong created Hunminjeongeum alone, the Haeryebon was the result of collective intelligence created together with eight scholars, including Jeong In-ji, Choi Hang, Park Pang-nyeon, Shin Suk-ju, Seong Sam-mun, Kang Hui-an, Yi Gae, and Yi Seon-ro.
Accordingly, various academic achievements made up to the 15th century, such as humanities, science, music, and mathematics, are fused and described.
It contains the universal human thought and philosophy in a very coherent way.
In addition, Haeryebon is the first Korean World Documentary Heritage registered with UNESCO in 1997.
It is a detailed commentary on letters, a book on phonetics, and a book on graphology.
Whether in the 15th century or today, it is a book containing the best thoughts and scholarship, and has value beyond modern phonetics and philology.
However, although many people know that Haeryebon, a cultural heritage of invaluable value, is a book, not many have actually read it.
This is because the original text is in Chinese characters and the Korean translation is usually written in a professional style, making it difficult to read.
That's why there are many cases where it is not taught properly in Korean language and literature departments or Korean language education departments in our country.
This book began with this problem in mind.

Into the book
Our language is different from Chinese, and does not communicate well with Chinese characters.
Therefore, even if illiterate people have something to say, there are many who are unable to express their thoughts.
I took pity on this and created twenty-eight new characters so that everyone can easily learn them and use them comfortably every day.

Now, the creation of the correct sound was not something that was discovered through wisdom or hard work from the beginning, but rather simply by digging into the principles of speech sounds to the end.
Each of the twenty-eight Jeongeum letters was created based on its shape.
There are seventeen initial letters in total.
The sound of the tongue (gi) is modeled after the shape of the tongue root blocking the throat.
The tongue sound character (ni) is modeled after the shape of the tongue touching the upper gums.
The lip sound letters (미) are modeled after the shape of the mouth.
The consonant letters (poems) are modeled after this shape.
The throat sound letter (이) is modeled after the shape of the throat.
All human speech is rooted in the five elements.
Therefore, there is no distortion when combined with the four seasons, and it matches well and is not wrong when combined with the pentatonic scale.
The throat is deep and wet, so in the five elements it is water.
The sound of speech is as clear as an empty space, like water flowing smoothly and transparently.
It is winter in terms of season, and the musical scale is 'wooumge'.
As one basic energy flows throughout and never runs out, and the four seasons change endlessly, winter becomes spring again, just as the harvest of all things becomes the beginning of all things again.
The same thing applies to the first sound becoming the last sound and the last sound becoming the first sound again.
Ah! The principle of all things in heaven and earth is complete through the creation of the right sound, and that right sound is miraculous.
This must have been because Heaven awakened the mind of the Holy King (Sejong) and had him create Jeongeum through his hands.
The sound is the deepest, modeled after the sky.
So the round shape looks like a bullet.

Although the nations of the East have existed for quite some time, the great wisdom that would understand the will of all things and bring all things to perfection was waiting for today.

What kind of book is the 『Hunminjeongeum』 Haeryebon?
From test preparation to general knowledge
The principles of discipleship are easy to understand, and the story of Hunminjeongeum is essential to know.
The Hunminjeongeum Haeryebon is divided into the 'Jeongeum section' written by King Sejong and the 'Jeongeum Haerye section' interpreted by scholars of Jiphyeonjeon, including Jeong Inji, at the order of King Sejong.
Part 1, ‘Jeong-eum’, contains ‘Sejong’s Preface’ and ‘Etiquette’.
In the 'Sejong Preface', it is written concisely who created Hunminjeongeum, why, and what its value is.
That is, it contains the spirit of independence to create new letters suitable for the Korean language that cannot be properly written in Chinese characters, the spirit of loving the people to enable even people who do not know Chinese characters well to communicate freely using easy letters, and the practical spirit of making it easy for all people to learn our letters and live comfortably.
The following section, 'Etiquette', explains the principles of creating consonants and vowels.
That is, it is a pictographic principle that created 17 consonants based on the pronunciation organs or pronunciation shapes, and 11 vowels based on the sky, the earth, and people.
And in the second part, ‘Jeong-eum Hae-rye-pyeon’, which was explained by eight scholars of Jiphyeonjeon including Jeong In-ji by order of King Sejong, the contents of the Jeong-eum-pyeon are explained in more detail.
It includes explanations of how letters are made (Jejahae), explanations of how to make the first sound (Cho-songhae), explanations of how to make the middle sound (Medi-songhae), explanations of how to make the last sound (Jeong-songhae), explanations of how to combine letters (Hap-jahae), and examples of how to use individual letters (Yong-ja-rye).

All existing translations read consonants such as 'ㄱ, ㄴ, ㄷ' in the modern way, '기역, 니은, 디귿'.
If you do this, you will have a problem because you cannot read it in the 15th century style as 'gi, ni, di'.
In this book, the initial consonants are read as 'ㄱ(gi), ㄴ(ni)', and the final consonants are read as 'ㄱ(euk), ㄴ(eun), ㄷ(jjup)', and all consonant readings are included in parentheses so that anyone can read them on their own.

In the 'Sejong Preface', it is written concisely who created Hunminjeongeum, why, and what its value is.
That is, it contains the spirit of independence to create new letters suitable for the Korean language that cannot be properly written in Chinese characters, the spirit of loving the people to enable even people who do not know Chinese characters well to communicate freely using easy letters, and the practical spirit of making it easy for all people to learn our letters and live comfortably.
The following section, 'Etiquette', explains the principles of creating consonants and vowels.
That is, it is a pictographic principle that created 17 consonants based on the pronunciation organs or pronunciation shapes, and 11 vowels based on the sky, the earth, and people.
And in the second part, ‘Jeong-eum Hae-rye-pyeon’, which was explained by eight scholars of Jiphyeonjeon including Jeong In-ji by order of King Sejong, the contents of the Jeong-eum-pyeon are explained in more detail.
It includes explanations of how letters are made (Jejahae), explanations of how to make the first sound (Cho-songhae), explanations of how to make the middle sound (Medi-songhae), explanations of how to make the last sound (Jeong-songhae), explanations of how to combine letters (Hap-jahae), and examples of how to use individual letters (Yong-ja-rye).
And in the preface to Jeong In-ji, the background and value of King Sejong's great dream of creating and promulgating Hunminjeongeum are shown in detail.
King Sejong, who created Hunminjeongeum, was evaluated as a saint sent from heaven who surpassed all kings, and the great dream of Hunminjeongeum was contained in it.

All existing translations read consonants such as 'ㄱ, ㄴ, ㄷ' in the modern way, '기역, 니은, 디귿'.
If you do this, you will have a problem because you cannot read it in the 15th century style as 'gi, ni, di'.
In this book, the initial consonants are read as 'ㄱ(gi), ㄴ(ni)', and the final consonants are read as 'ㄱ(euk), ㄴ(eun), ㄷ(jjup)', and all consonant readings are included in parentheses so that anyone can read them on their own.
