Should I just skip school?
Should I just skip school?
Description
Book Introduction
Why are there different teachers for each subject?
I'm only a year older
“There are so many differences from elementary school!”
A must-read book for a smart middle school life!

"Should I Rather Skip School?" is a young adult novel that depicts the turbulent middle school life of Hyun-jung and Tae-yang, who have just entered middle school.
This is the first installment of the [Giving Wings to Middle School Life] series, written by Lee Myeong-rang, author of “Do You Know My Heart or Not?” and “Is It Because I’m in Puberty?” included in middle school Korean language textbooks, which addresses the concerns of children who are worried about middle school life, which is significantly different from elementary school life.

The recently revised 『Should I Rather Skip School?』 tells the story of the main characters, Hyun-jung and Tae-yang, as they begin their unfamiliar middle school life and adapt to a completely different environment.
It contains the process of making friends, completing assignments, and realizing how men and women should understand and live with each other, leading to a life of 'living together, not alone.'
Unlike elementary school, where you only need to tell your homeroom teacher when you're sick, middle school has a different teacher every hour, making it difficult to tell your child you need to go to the health room, effectively conveying the difficulties of middle school life.
You can enjoy the middle school struggles of the main characters as they gradually grow up while understanding the differences between men and women.

Author Lee Myeong-rang said, “I have met many young people while writing young adult novels for a long time.
That's when I realized that children felt a great burden about going to an unfamiliar school, having new friends, and having a different teacher every hour.
“I started writing novels because I wanted to help children who are struggling, even if only a little,” he says, filled with affection for young people.
In particular, in the appendix of this book, the author provides honest and loving advice that can be helpful to middle school students, such as what changes when you become a middle school student and how to prepare for performance assessments.
Parents and teachers who want to better understand their children who are about to enter middle school, those who are already in middle school, or their children who are in middle school will find this book helpful in understanding and empathizing with their children's hearts.

Into the book
This is ridiculous!!! Why today of all days? I found myself pulling out my hair.
The dull pain radiating from my lower abdomen vividly told me what my day would be like.
Why did I get my period today of all days? Today is the day I have gym class.
And it was my first gym class since entering middle school! I could somehow manage other classes, but what about physical education? The moment I thought of my physical education teacher, I sighed.
Our school gym teacher is a total slob
all.
You can tell just by looking at how many times I shouted “I can do it!” during my first physical education class last week.
It's obvious what will happen if you talk to an adult who thinks 'you can do anything!'
Any reason why you can't do something, any reason why you can't do something, is just an excuse.
But if I say it's my period pain, won't they let it slide?

“You all have just started middle school, so your classmates will still be unfamiliar to you.
Okay, so this time we'll do a moral performance assessment.
“Each of you should discuss it with your partner and make it great.” What the moral teacher meant was that Lee Tae-yang and I should be in a group and do a performance evaluation.
I looked at the sun.
Lee Tae-yang was still frowning as he waited for me to say something.
Oh my god!
Ugh.
Suddenly, I started feeling uneasy.
I felt like I was going to throw up.

My mom wasn't even interested in my grades when I was in elementary school.
When I was in elementary school, I didn't even check my report card because I thought eating well, playing well, and sleeping well were the most important things.
But guess what? When I told her I was going to be a middle school student, my mom completely changed into a different person.
A month before I started middle school, my mom filled my bookshelf with books about world literature selected by prestigious universities, textbook catch-up books, and so on.
If that's all, I won't say anything.
My mother, who had heard something from somewhere, pushed me to the comprehensive academy.
The comprehensive academy that my mother dragged me to took me to three times a week, four hours a day, and taught me four subjects: Korean, English, math, and science.
It's only natural that the tuition is expensive since it's your subject.
But when I think about the exorbitant tuition fees, I feel suffocated.

If I went to an all-girls school, I wouldn't have had such a hard time during my period since I'd only be with girls... I could go to the infirmary without having to worry about what the boys think, and I wouldn't have to go change my sanitary pad every hour, anxious that the boys might say I smell weird...

Publisher's Review
Going from elementary school to middle school means a lot more than just growing a year older.
First of all, I am separated from my friends who I have been with for 6 years.
The commute to school is longer and students have to wear uniforms.
The environment changes from always studying with the homeroom teacher in the classroom to having a different teacher during class time and being with just the students during break time.
It's only been a month or two since sixth grade, when everything was familiar, and now first grade, where everything is unfamiliar.
So many environmental changes follow this short sentence, 'I went to middle school.'
The title, "Should I Rather Skip School?" contains the worries of all the "Hyunjeongs" across the country who are worried about whether they will be able to start middle school life safely.

《Rather than being absent, it shows children being honest about their feelings and getting to know and be considerate of each other.
The story of Hyunjeong and Taeyang will provide courage and comfort to countless young people struggling in similar situations.

“When I was in elementary school, I only had to tell my homeroom teacher once that I had severe menstrual cramps and wanted to go to the health center, but now that I’m in middle school, it’s so hard.
"I have to keep asking the teacher for permission every hour. Sometimes I even want to skip class entirely, afraid the teacher might think I'm faking it."

“Men are so playful.
I don't really know whether women menstruate or not.
So, even on days when girls are under a spell, they can still play pranks.
But I think women have a hard time saying they need to go to the infirmary even when they're sick because there are men around.
“How about discussing ways to naturally get to the health center when you are suffering from menstrual cramps?”

A word from the pre-reading reader review panel

It seems like a novel that well portrays the various worries that Hyun-Jeong experiences as she becomes a middle school student and adapts to a new environment.
We were able to realize that the worries and concerns of our youth are not unique to them, but rather a part of the growing process that everyone experiences.
It seems that seeing Hyunjeong and her friends wisely navigate middle school life also gives courage to the readers.
_ Kim Ji-yeon

Taeyang, the main character Hyun-jung's partner, may seem like a thoughtless kid at first glance, but he is actually a very warm and kind kid.
I get all excited when I see the sun's actions.
As I thought about the middle school girls I know around me, I felt like I really wanted to give them to them as gifts.
I can't tell you how happy I am to discover such an interesting book.
_ Cha Young-seon

After sending my child to middle school, I began to regret whether I had expected too much from my mother's impatience.
I think what's really important in middle school isn't grades, but learning how to live happily.
I wish I had such a wonderful book when I was young. This is a must-read coming-of-age novel for mothers and daughters, and a guide to understanding your daughter's heart.
_ Jeon Hyeon-jeong

Even as an adult, I found it so interesting that the moment I closed the last page, I thought, 'These days, my friends are living their lives with their own unique thoughts.'
If you have friends who are having trouble adjusting to school life or struggling with their relationships, why not read this book and see how Hyun-jung, Tae-yang, and their friends overcame similar struggles? _ Ahn Ji-hyun

Middle school is very different from elementary school.
The friends I used to be close with have all scattered to different schools, and the road to school is long and unfamiliar.
It's true that I feel more worried and nervous than excited about becoming a middle school student.
This book tells realistic stories that will be helpful to prospective and current middle school students.
Through books, you come to realize things for yourself that you cannot know just by getting advice from people around you.
If children read this book, they will likely be able to shake off their anxiety about middle school life and have a happy middle school life.
_ Hyunju

This is a young adult novel that is perfect for students in 6th grade of elementary school to 1st grade of middle school.
If I had recommended this book, the faces of the people who would have liked it and said, “Teacher, I totally agree!” would come to mind.
As a woman who suffers the same pain as Hyun-jung, I really want to skip school on days like this.
_ Kim Ji-hye

As a mother of a fifth-grade daughter, I was already filled with anxiety about middle school life, but after reading the book, I feel like I've experienced my children's school life in advance.
In particular, the story unfolds around Hyun-jung, who has just started menstruating, so it is likely to resonate with many prospective middle school girls as well as those who were once middle school girls.
I can't wait for the next series.
_ Hyun Seung-mi

There is a huge difference between elementary school and middle school.
Everything changes, from friends to the environment.
Meeting strangers can be exciting, but it's also natural to feel scared and afraid.
This book shows me that I'm not the only one who's scared.
It was a bonus to learn about common misconceptions women have and common misconceptions men have.
This book provides empathy and comfort to teenagers and helps adults understand children.
_ Jeong Yang-hwa

It is a coming-of-age novel centered around what happens during the main character, Hyun-jung's menstrual period.
It may be an ordinary story that happens once a month to girls, but it's a different story when that space is a first-year middle school classroom.
A teenage girl goes through a difficult week, struggling with physical pain and nuanced emotions, but unexpectedly becomes close to her classmate, Taeyang Lee, and senses a new friendship.
It was really fun to read.
The emotions of the youth were natural, and the author's sincerity in supporting the youth was felt.
The cheerful character that appears in the work brought joy because his cheerful personality was clearly shown.
_ Choi Hye-ryeon

I happened to read a new work by author Lee Myeong-rang, whose name I remembered as the author of the book “Is It Because I’m a Teenager?”
I showed it to my eldest child, who is in fifth grade, after seeing the book cover and introduction, and he showed interest.
My child read the book first as soon as it arrived yesterday, and I read it this morning.
I thought it would be a good idea for boys attending co-ed schools to read this.
