Into the book
We decided to go on an adventure.
I wanted to spend this long time in a unique and different way.
How about a trip that takes you into the unknown?
A place where you can burn your youth and pour out your overflowing energy.
So, rather than looking for 'hot places', I looked through world maps and found unfamiliar places.
Why Jordan of all places? After spinning the globe a few times, our eyes were immediately drawn to the Middle East, to Jordan.
The psychological distance is greater than the geographical distance, and so it exists vaguely on the world map in our heads, which is what makes it so appealing.
Moreover, since it is said that among the Middle Eastern countries, it is easy to obtain a visa and the public security is relatively stable, there was no need to worry any more.
The land where the Dead Sea and the Red Sea ripple, the setting for the movies 'Aladdin' and 'Indiana Jones'.
The adventurous spirit that had remained in the hearts of two 32-year-old men began to stir at the three letters: Yo, Le, Dan.

--- p.6-7

The tragedy of war is said to have severely tormented Khalid's life.
My father died from a shell in the battlefield, and my mother suffered from poverty and passed away from illness.
Khalid became an orphan at the age of 18.
His first job was at an auto repair shop.
Khalid, who worked as an engineer for nine years, said he enjoyed meeting foreign guests who came by occasionally.
For Khalid, everything about the foreigners from the unknown world outside the borders, their behavior, speech, clothing, skin color, and even their unique, unfamiliar body odor, was a journey of exploring a new world.
So he studied English on his own and became a taxi driver, and later became a kind of tour taxi driver who only picks up foreigners.

--- p.50

After completing the trek with unstoppable turbulence, the surrounding scenery became even more captivating.
Stripes carved into a valley that is only about 10 meters wide.
Layers of colorful desert sand and yellow soil, including brown, yellow-ochre, and orange-brown, record the traces of thousands of years.
The water stream, carved over time, crashed against the rocks, creating a loud roar, and the blue sky above, even bluer than the sea, marked the end of the perfect scenery.
A complete adventure in itself.
The water was shallow at the end of the trekking course, so I took off my life jacket, sat down in the water, and watched the waterfall crashing into the ground.
The scenery of mist rising from the sects pouring down indiscriminately gave me a refreshing feeling as if my worries were being washed away like old dirt.
--- p.103-104

I came to my senses only after the sun had completely set.
The warm energy of the earth that had been there until just a moment ago had vanished without a trace, and a pitch-black night sky dominated all around.
I felt trapped in complete darkness, unable to see even a single ray of light, let alone streetlights.
We hurried back to the car, turned on the headlights, and drove at a snail's pace, anxious but also terrified.
What if a wolf appears?
As we gradually fell into a swamp of fear, imagining what kind of wild animals might live in the desert, even the song that had been soothing our tension stopped playing.
The song I was listening to through streaming service stopped because the internet connection was down.
To make matters worse, even the navigation system stopped working.
In an instant, I felt like I was thrown onto a dark rocky mountain.
--- p.116-117

We and the people around us laughed in vain.
I thought about going up again, but I didn't want to go up again, holding my wobbly legs and crawling like a fool.
In the end, I decided to just take the photo with the rock bridge in the background.
Chicken instead of pheasant, what can I do?
We jumped with all our might from under the rock bridge.
We jumped up shouting 'Adventure Jordan!' and struck a flying kick pose with one leg extended.
It was thrilling that they struck that pose naturally even though they hadn't even kissed.
We self-described that photo as the 'best shot' of the trip.
I felt like I had received an unexpected gift.
--- p.214

The rare moment of running with the fennec foxes quickly ended when they turned away.
The fennec foxes disappeared into the darkness in an instant.
Nowap said I was lucky.
The fennec fox is said to be timid and very fast, so it is not often seen in real life.
I have a memory that is unique to me, unknown to my friends and even to Gwangil.
--- p.226

I wish time would stop like this.
But as we laughed and chatted like that, the surroundings soon became dark.
We got into the jeep and headed to the Bedouin camp.
I listened to music with a carefree mind while driving off-road.
When fast-paced hip-hop music started playing, Guyeon and I, who were sitting in the front row, led the shoulder dance, and the others followed suit.
Then he stretched out both arms horizontally by himself.
I was hit head-on by the wind.
If I were a bird, flying low over this dark desert, would this be how I would feel?
If someone saw me, they might think, 'What is he doing?' but for me, it was an unforgettable and best moment.

Publisher's Review
Among the countries that came to mind
The most blurred place, the Middle East

The authors, two current journalists and colleagues of the same age, decide to escape their daily routines, even if only for a moment.
I decided to spend the time I had in a unique and different way.
So, I decided to go somewhere unfamiliar and challenging, rather than somewhere familiar and well-known.
So the two young men leave for Jordan without a plan.
The reason we decided to just turn the globe and go to Jordan in the Middle East was because it was a vague country in our minds.
Jordan, a country with a psychological distance greater than its geographical distance.
The fact that it was such an unknown country made it mysterious and attractive, so the two young men headed to Jordan without hesitation.
The land where the Dead Sea and the Red Sea ripple, the setting for the movies 'Aladdin' and 'Indiana Jones'.
The spirit of adventure that had remained in the hearts of two young men began to stir in the country called Jordan.

I met you after escaping from the gray everyday life,
Colorful Jordan!

The journey from Amman to Wadi Mujib, Petra, and on to Wadi Rum and Aqaba unfolds unexpected experiences at familiar tourist destinations and exotic new landscapes.
Leaving the familiar, gray forest of buildings, what we discovered in Jordan, a hazy place in our minds, was a colorful variety of colors.
Jordan had as many exciting adventures, stories, and people as I had hoped, if not more.
And the completely unexpected adventures and beautiful landscapes give us a clearer picture of the Middle East and Jordan, which had been a vague image for us.
Jordan's red desert and blue nights will add a colorful touch to our gray lives.
