Publisher's Review
Kanazawa, a charming small city brimming with emotion
“Was there a city like that in Japan?”
When talking about Kanazawa, 98% of people react like this.
A somewhat unfamiliar name even to travelers who travel to Japan.
Kanazawa is a small city in the Hokuriku region of central Japan, just 2 hours and 30 minutes by train from Tokyo and Osaka, but it is always listed as one of the top 5 cities to visit in Japan and is famous among European travelers as a city along the so-called "Samurai Route."
Kanazawa's greatest charm lies in the many pretty streets where Edo-period scenery naturally blends in throughout the city.
This is thanks to the Maeda family, the lords of this region who have amassed enormous wealth for generations, investing heavily in traditional culture and academics. If you visit Kanazawa's three major ryotei districts - Higashi Chaya-gai, Kazuemachi, and Nishi Chaya-gai - you can enjoy beautiful streetscapes lined with buildings that are at least 100 years old.
In the heart of the city, there are many attractions to see, including Kenrokuen, one of Japan's three greatest gardens; Kanazawa Castle Park, a popular filming location for dramas; and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, a unique cultural space.
In particular, the area around the 21st Century Museum of Art is home to a number of unique museums and art galleries within a 5-minute walk, making it the perfect travel destination for art lovers.
Also, Kanazawa is the place in Japan where seafood is so delicious that it would be sad to be told it is second to none.
The fish caught in the nearby waters are so delicious that you can enjoy top-quality sushi even at a local conveyor belt sushi restaurant.
In particular, the seafood bowl kaisendon boasts an overwhelming visual and is so delicious that it attracts gourmets from all over the country.
Not only that, as it is known as one of Japan's three major confectionery production areas along with Kyoto and Matsue, there are also many traditional dessert cafes scattered throughout the city.
If you're tired of the hustle and bustle of Japan like Tokyo and Osaka, Kanazawa is a great alternative to the small-city travel destination.
Let's embark on a charming Kanazawa trip with "3 Days in Kanazawa," filled with emotional streets and traditional restaurants that perfectly suit the tastes of Korean travelers.
Five Charms of "3 Days in Kanazawa"
1.
The best 3-day course suggestion considering time and route
We've compiled a three-day itinerary that includes carefully selected attractions, restaurants, and shopping malls, all with the advice of locals and the perspectives of Japan travel experts, to ensure you can explore them with the utmost ease.
However, when traveling, things can happen that don't go as planned.
If you don't have enough time, you can skip some parts and enjoy it in your own style by combining only the parts you like.
2.
[Today's Route Map] to see your travel route and destinations at a glance
Before we begin the main text, we introduce a route map that shows the travel course for that day.
You can see at a glance how to move along the optimized route, and the locations of the spots introduced in the text as well as recommended transportation methods are provided in detail, which will be very helpful in planning your trip.
3.
Time zone-based organization for easy scheduling
The introduction to the travel destination is organized along with the timeline, so if you turn the pages in order from the first page, you can naturally figure out the day's schedule.
The representative travel destinations for each time zone are organized to be the most efficient, taking into account the length of stay and travel route, but sometimes travel destinations with similar concepts are also introduced to help travelers modify and select the course according to their preferences.
4.
Introducing attractions and restaurants that perfectly suit the tastes of Korean travelers.
Kanazawa is a city where diverse cultures from the past and present coexist, offering countless things to see and eat.
I would love to see everything, but as always, our time is limited.
So, after selecting and covering the most popular local spots, we went through the process of checking whether they were suitable for the tastes of Korean travelers.
5.
DAY PLUS enriches your trip
Although it wasn't included in the basic 3-day course, I've compiled a list of travel destinations that can be easily visited in one day in conjunction with Kanazawa in DAY PLUS.
We introduce day trip destinations that will enrich your trip, including Little Kyoto Takayama, where you can enjoy the atmosphere of the Edo period; Shirakawa-go, an entire village designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; and Yamanaka Onsen, recommended by hot spring enthusiasts.
