The Annals of the Baekje Dynasty in One Volume
Description
Book Introduction
《Reading the Annals of the Baekje Dynasty in One Volume》 is an ancient history volume in the 《Reading the Annals of the Goguryeo Dynasty in One Volume》 and 《Reading the Annals of the Silla Dynasty in One Volume》 series.
The history of Baekje, which has not been properly known until now, is introduced to readers through a popular narrative centered on the dynasty.
Until now, Baekje has been recognized only as a country that quietly resided in the southwestern part of the Korean Peninsula.
However, the 700-year history of Baekje was a history of continental management, and it was a great nation that held the sea in its hands, commanded East Asia, and raised its status.
The author first considers the relationship between the continent and Baekje through the exile routes of the founding forces of Baekje.
The author is convinced that the 'Baekje Continental Management Theory' is the most important key to restoring Baekje's history, and he is constructing this book based on that hypothesis.
His argument, centered on Kim Bu-sik's Samguk Sagi (History of the Three Kingdoms), examines the power relations and interests of the three countries at the time in a three-dimensional and detailed manner, examining various issues in Baekje history and attempting new interpretations.
In particular, the first place where Baekje and Goguryeo had a military conflict was on the continent, not the Korean Peninsula (Annals of King Geunchogo, the 13th King); Baekje and Japan had an equal alliance, not a subordinate relationship as commonly thought; and Imna (Seop-ra), the most sensitive historical issue with Japan, was a free trade city in Gaya. This provides an opportunity to look at the history of Baekje in a new way by approaching it through meticulous research on historical materials and inferences that take into account the international situation at the time.
Baekje, a maritime empire that dreamed of eternal glory by competing with the nations of the continent and ruling the continent with a spirit and ambition no less than that of Goguryeo.
Now is the time to break away from the Korean Peninsula view of history and meet the true hero of East Asia, Baekje on the continent.

Publisher's Review
The best-selling historical novel
The revised and expanded edition, which has been awaited for 10 years, is now available!
First published in 1996, “The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty in One Volume” is a rare example of a humanities book that has sold over a million copies.
It recorded an astonishing 350,000 copies sold in its first year of publication, and in less than ten years, it has now sold well over one million copies, establishing itself as a unique million-seller in the history field.
《Reading the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty in One Volume》 is a book that compiles the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, a proud cultural heritage and the most authentic historical record, into one volume.
The vast volume of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty was compiled into a single volume so that anyone could easily access it, bringing history, which had been far from the general public, into everyday life.
It is written in an easy-to-read format so that even those who do not major in history can read it with interest, but the content is by no means lacking in expertise.
The recently published "The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty Revised and Expanded Edition in One Volume" is the culmination of over ten years of research by author Park Young-gyu, who has improved upon the shortcomings of the previous edition to enhance its completeness.
First, we meticulously compared the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and the royal genealogy of the Joseon Dynasty, the Seonwonrok of the Joseon Dynasty, and the Yeonrye Silgisul, to correct and supplement errors in the family relationships and genealogy of each king that had been frequently inquired about by readers in the old edition.
And at the back of the book, a genealogy map of the Joseon Dynasty was included on one page so that it can be viewed at a glance.
In addition, the process of creating Hunminjeongeum, which is one of King Sejong's achievements that cannot be left out, and the secrets behind it were revealed and recorded in detail. The content of major events during the reign of King Taejong was supplemented, and new events that must be known were added. In order to help understand the process of King Taejo's growth, information about his father Lee Ja-chun and the siblings of Lee Seong-gye was also added.
The '19th Annals of King Sukjong' also added information about Jang Gil-san, who was called one of the three greatest righteous bandits of Joseon along with Hong Gil-dong and Im Kkeok-jeong.
In order to convey the lives of ordinary people more vividly, information on the economic life, land management, tax collection, population trends, and changes in social status of the Joseon people was organized and arranged in a timely manner.
We also carefully edited and revised the inaccurate or ambiguous parts of the original text, and included an index of approximately 600 people essential for understanding specific events or content.
In the appendix, descriptions of most central government offices are added in 'Major Government Offices of the Joseon Dynasty', and the official positions in the Naemyeongbu and Oemyeongbu are organized in a table.
For first-time readers, this book offers a glimpse into the 500-year history of the Joseon Dynasty, with its clean editing and more accurate content. It will also provide a sense of satisfaction to avid readers who have felt the shortcomings and disappointments of older editions.
