The Manchurian Yuanliu High School
The Manchurian Yuanliu High School
Description
Book Introduction
The Official History of Manchuria was compiled in 1777 by the Hanlin Academy under the direction of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, with the participation of about 30 of the best government scholars and officials of the time.
A vast amount of data related to Manchuria and the Korean Peninsula has been collected from existing historical books, geography books, and personal anthologies.
The reason why 『The Records of Manchurian Yuanliu Gao』 is receiving special attention in our historical circles is because it records that the territories of Silla and Baekje extended to places such as Jilin Province and Liaoning Province.

In addition, 『Authorized Manchurian History』 also organized the history of tribes and countries that were active in Manchuria, including the Jurchen people.
This is an evaluation that we have broken away from the Han-centered view of history.
That is why even the late Shin Chae-ho highly evaluated the historical value of the Authorized Manchurian Yuanliu Go in his 『Ancient History of Joseon』.
It was translated into two volumes: upper and lower.
This book is the second volume.

Publisher's Review
China's deep-rooted attachment to the Manchus
Re-examining the Manchurian Yuanliu Gao, which was relegated to inferiority complex!!

The original text of the Manchurian Yuanliu Gao, which has been the subject of ongoing controversy in the academic world for recording that the territories of Silla and Baekje extended to Jilin Province and Liaoning Province, was completely translated into Chinese characters by a current civil servant (Nam Ju-seong, Director of the Board of Audit and Inspection) who studies our ancient history, and was supervised by Dr. Lee Byeong-ju, a former professor of history at Yeungnam University.

The Official Manchurian History was compiled in 1777 by the Hanlin Academy under the direction of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, with the participation of some 30 of the best government scholars and officials of the time. It contains a vast amount of data related to Manchuria and the Korean Peninsula collected from existing historical books, geography books, and personal collections.

The Manchurian Yuanliu Gao is a historical record of the tribes and countries that were active in Manchuria, including the Jurchen people, and is organized by classification into the geography, customs, and products of Manchuria.
The compiler added detailed opinions by citing various pieces of evidence to the existing records, and Danjae Shin Chae-ho also highly evaluated the historical value of the Authorized Manchurian Origins in his 『Ancient History of Joseon』.

In the tribe section of this book, Sushen is put first as the ancestor of the Manchu people who founded the Qing Dynasty.
Additionally, as major countries or tribes, Buyeo, Eunu, Samhan, Mulgil, Baekje, Silla, Malgal, Balhae, Wanyanbu, and Jianzhou Jurchen are mentioned.
That is, the Manchus who founded the Qing Dynasty viewed the Sushen as their origin, and the Malgal and Jurchen as their successors.
However, the Malgal tribe was the main tribe that formed Goguryeo, and in alliance with Goguryeo refugees, they established Balhae.
Afterwards, their name was changed to Jurchen and they established the Jin Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty. In the end, the Jurchen are descendants of Goguryeo and Balhae.
Therefore, the King Jeong Manchurian Yuanliu Gao is a valuable book that records the history of our Korean people, their territory of activity, and their customs.

In particular, this book clearly states that Silla's territory extended to the areas of Cheoryeong and Gaewon in present-day Jilin Province and Liaoning Province, and that Baekje's territory extended to Jinju, Uiju, Haeju, and Gaepyeong County in Liaoning Province.
This content is shocking because it differs from the existing historical view that the territories of Silla and Baekje were limited to the Korean Peninsula.
In addition, when Han Chinese historians wrote the Book of the Later Han and other works, they described our customs and culture as barbaric and disparaged them due to their ignorance and prejudice against the customs and culture of the Han people. These were refuted and corrected one by one by citing Manchurian customs.

In addition, it contains detailed records of the culture, customs, ancestral rites, food, and government systems of the tribes who lived in Manchuria and the Korean Peninsula through abundant data, and includes words of encouragement to preserve and continue their cultural traditions.

Currently, China is committing an act of historical invasion by promoting the so-called 'Northeast Project', which seeks to incorporate the history of Goguryeo and Balhae into the history of the Han Chinese.
To counter this historical invasion, we need to thoroughly study the history, geography, and cultural traditions of our people in Manchuria and respond with meticulous logic.

This translation, which includes the original Chinese text along with abundant annotations and the geographical sections explained with ancient and modern maps, makes it easy for readers to understand, and will be of great help to those studying the history and geography of Manchuria.
