World War I 1
World War I 1
Description
Book Introduction
The ultimate war history series, which explores all wars from East and West, ancient to modern times, through comics, has been born.
The first novel in the series, World War I, is considered the war that created the modern era, but it deals with the Great War, which was overshadowed by World War II and thus received less attention.
World War I, which is often remembered only for fragmentary events such as the Sarajevo Incident, trench warfare, and the Treaty of Versailles, is covered in detail, covering politics, economics, society, and culture. Numerous maps are inserted to realistically convey the reality of the battlefield.
Volume 1 covers the Sarajevo incident and the political situation in Europe at the time, as well as the 'Battle of the Borders'.
It covers the Battle of Tannenberg, the Battle of the Marne, and the Race to the Sea.
The vivid battlefields depicted in the comics will leave a strong impression on first-time readers, and war history buffs will be captivated by the battlefield scenery, weapons, and commanders of each country, all verified with the latest information about World War I.

Publisher's Review
The birth of 'Ultimate War History', a comic series focused solely on 'war'!

Perhaps because Korea had always suffered from foreign powers, war was treated as a taboo that could not be spoken of.
As the term "war history wasteland" suggests, there are only a handful of scholars who study only the history of war, and unlike foreign bookstores where military and war history occupy the same theme, books on war history can only be found in the corner of the history section of Korean bookstores.
However, the Russia-Ukraine war shows no signs of ending, and in an era when the United States and China are waging a new Cold War, turning a blind eye to the war is like turning a blind eye.
If the usefulness of history lies in predicting the future through the past, then the current situation makes it more necessary than ever to examine the history of war.

Why World War I?

Why did the Ultimate War History series choose World War I as its starting point?
World War I was known only as a repetition of disastrous trench warfare.
But most people don't know that there was a huge balloon-like airship called a Zeppelin floating above the trench and why it was so difficult to shoot down the balloon-like airship.
It is also not widely known that the heads of state of Germany, Russia, and Britain at the time of the war were all cousins, and that the Russian and German emperors, who were at gunpoint, exchanged telegrams calling each other by nicknames until just before the war.
Most people probably don't know that when night fell in the trenches, the soldiers of each country, despite recognizing each other, put down their guns, made a temporary ceasefire, repaired the barbed wire, and then ran back to the trenches to request fire.
In many ways, World War I was the beginning of the modern era and the beginning of modern warfare.

The War That Created Modernity: World War I

"war...
“War never changes.” This is the main tagline of Fallout, a famous game set in a post-nuclear war world.
World War I is considered the war that created the modern era, but it cannot be considered a complete war.
‘The birth of total war,’ ‘the reestablishment of Western hegemony,’ and ‘the beginning of World War II’ still have an impact on our present.
The Russo-Ukrainian War confirmed that the nature of modern warfare, with its conventional weapons, propaganda warfare, and frontline fighting, has not changed.
If so, then knowing the beginning is most important, whether to understand our present or to prevent future wars.
