I couldn't express it all in words, that I was sad and in pain
I'll tell you about your 70 'black emotions'.
A guide to 70 negative emotions that will help you look into the emotions you've been trying to ignore and cover up.
Author Seolreda, who comforted tens of thousands of readers with the 100,000-copy bestseller, "Don't Hurt My Heart," has returned with "The Black Book."

To know feelings is to know myself.
As we face the dark emotions within us, we will be able to accept and care for ourselves as we are.

Into the book
If I were to give a name to this feeling I'm feeling right now, what would it be? Am I unsure of my own feelings, or am I afraid they're wrong? These are the negative emotions I've been trying to ignore and cover up.
We call this 'black emotion'.
From now on, we will begin to guide you through dark emotions so that you do not run away from your emotions, whether you are sad or in pain.
--- p.4
Hatred harbors behind it our fervent desire to 'confirm unconditional love.'
Because it stems from childhood aspirations, it may show somewhat excessive behavior or expression.
But I think that I, more than anyone else, need to understand that these feelings are the result of longing for love and attention.
Because the person I hate so much might be the person I want to love and be loved by the most, the person I want to accept just as I am.
---From "Hate"
We can easily get caught up in this suffering, so we need a lifeline.
I think that 'solidarity' can play that role.
It literally means having a 'corner of trust'.
This is not to avoid getting hurt, but to acknowledge the hurt and painful me as I am.
---From "Pain"
When emotions arise, feel them as they are.
This is not a task that can be done with just anyone.
It's a lonely but necessary task that only I can do.
If you have any emotions that are difficult to pinpoint, I encourage you to feel them alone, quietly, for a long time, and then define them.
Remember that our emotions defined in this way are always the 'right' emotions.
---From "Shame"
Helplessness is an emotion that accurately reflects my state.
It makes me tired, but it helps me stop pushing myself too hard.
There is a proverb that says, "Since you've fallen, you might as well rest."
The interpretation is really interesting. I think it means that you will meet an unexpected opportunity and achieve what you set out to do.
I think helplessness can be seen this way too.
I've reached a point where I didn't expect it, but I'm taking this opportunity to really understand how helpless I am.
---From "Helplessness"
It's fun in its own way to work hard at what I can do.
It also fills us with important emotions such as pride, self-esteem, and stability.
However, I would like you to add the words ‘in a way that takes care of me’ to the pledge to ‘live hard.’
---From "Burnout"
There's no need to deliberately seek out my worries every day.
But if you've had a particularly difficult day worrying, wouldn't that be the perfect day to consider, "Where do my worries come from?"

Publisher's Review
If you are sad, be sad, if you are in pain, be in pain,
Don't run away from your emotions
From now on, we will begin the 'Black Emotion' guide.
There are emotions in this world that are misunderstood.
Depression, anxiety, revenge, conflict… these feelings have always been treated as things to be hidden, emotions to be fixed.
But is that really true?
There is a saying, 'You are right.'
Anyone interested in psychology has probably heard of it at least once.
What is right? I think it's emotions.
“Since one’s emotions are 100% subjective, if one feels any emotion, it clearly exists, and it is not a realm to be judged by morality or law.” (p. 120)
『The Black Book Black Emotions』 began with the hope that we would face the negative emotions we have been ignoring for so long as they are.
In psychology, these emotions are called negative emotions, but in this book, we use the term "black emotions" to look at emotions without bias.
A black book with black emotions drawn in black pencil, 'Black Book'.
Illustrator Seolreda, who majored in and studied psychology, guides us to find and properly look at our dark emotions.
『The Black Book: Black Emotions』 is structured like this.
There are a total of four 'paths' in this book.
In the first path, 'My Dark Emotions I Didn't Know About', I discover my true dark emotions that were hidden.
In the second path, 'Dark Emotions Caused by Others', you can encounter emotions that arise from society and the gaze of others.
On the third and fourth paths, we take a closer look at the emotions that originate from ‘anxiety’ and ‘depression’ respectively.
When you feel tired, stop by the 'station', a corner where you can take a break.
The stop consists of relatively light pictures and short sentences, so you can read it comfortably and take a break.
As you follow the paths of 70 emotions and 70 pictures to find the dark emotions in your heart, you will soon find yourself with a much lighter heart.
It's a wonderful journey to find my feelings.
If I were to name this feeling I'm feeling right now,
What can I say?
Have you ever felt awkward answering when someone asked you how you were feeling? "Am I sad?" "Am I annoyed?" "Why am I stressed?" You might be unsure of your true feelings, or even afraid they're the wrong ones.
“I am breaking down the feelings that I used to categorize into ‘good, bad, okay,’ into smaller pieces.
The feeling of 'good' may include emotions such as 'happy, joyful, relieved, excited'.
I would like you to explore together what other emotions are in my heart.
“The work of discovering hidden emotions will greatly help you understand yourself.” (p. 49)
When that happens, please open this book.
You can read it in order of the table of contents, but you can also read it by finding the emotion that appeals to you each day.
And on other days, when I can't read even a single word, I just look at the pictures I like.
A black and white drawing drawn with a 4B pencil is powerful and beautiful in itself and will come across as a work of art.
Just knowing my feelings and emotions allows me to acknowledge and care for myself.
If you can't escape your dark emotions forever, why not embrace them and live with them, rather than suppressing or ignoring them? Remembering that our emotions are neither bad nor wrong, and that they are always right.
