June 4, 2025. Novel/Poetry PD Kim Yu-ri
With the independently published poetry collection ‘Tomato Cup Ramen’
A new work by poet Cha Jeong-eun, who spearheaded the "text hip" craze among teens and twenties.
Although the number of readers is decreasing, sales of poetry books are steadily increasing.
In particular, poet Cha Jeong-eun's "Tomato Cup Ramen," which was published as an independent publication and captured the hearts of people in their teens and twenties, leading the "Text Hip" craze, is loved even more now than it was immediately after its publication, thanks to its sensual poetry and passionate emotions.
Poet Cha Jeong-eun, who was recognized by readers before the literary world, presents summer to us again with her new book, ‘Summer Peach Sparkling.’
If 『Tomato Cup Ramen』 expressed the intense summer itself like a tomato, then in this poetry collection 『Summer Peach Sparkling』, the refreshing feeling like peach juice and the sharp emotion like green grapes are expressed in more sophisticated and refined language.
In this collection of poems, the poet vividly portrays scenes of youth that anyone could have experienced, such as the scorching midday sun, the humid wind, the cold soda from a convenience store, and the damp swaying of the body under the concert lights.
At the same time, it warmly embraces the hearts of all of us who are living through the season called summer.
Clumsy love and easy loss, heavy promises and lingering failures, loneliness that cannot be shared, but friendship that always wants to be shared - all these hold onto the unforgettable afterimages of summer.

Into the book
In this world where everyone talks about youth, can we find true youth?
Can we find true love in this world where everyone talks about love?
Saying I love you isn't enough
Our youth without passion is not so beautiful.
This moment of breathtaking running is no longer eternal.
(…)
What is your favorite word forever?
Maybe it's saying that people still eat tangerines in the summer
--- pp.16-17 From "Orange Afternoon"
Walk to the rustling tempo
We, burdened by the world's sudden heat, wait for a large ice cream cone.
I lick the floor that has melted in the heat.
Cool down your back, which is soaked with sweat,
I tried to cool down my cheeks that had turned red
A confession made between the sounds of a cold, running alarm
Don't worry, it's not April Fool's Day.
--- pp.59-60 From "Summer Warning"
This letter began first under the peach-colored summer.
This letter is imbued with a sweet yet sticky magic that, once attached, is difficult to remove.
The way to break this sweet spell is to deliver this letter to five people within 24 hours.
The evening Lucy XVII sent this letter to five people, she got free peach juice at the beach.
Thomas 24 ran away from a Friday night dinner, but no one remembered it.
A Korean man named Jeongmo posted this letter on his Instagram story, and that night he received a DM from his crush.
“You really look like summer,” he said.
(…) The peach scent that remains on your fingertips will never disappear.
From the moment you touch the soft shell, you become the owner of summer peach sparkle.
It is up to you whether you want to send this letter to five more people or not.
But remember.
The peach that is attached to you must ripen, but if you hesitate, it will quickly rot.
5 people and 24 hours.
The peach season is short.
--- pp.60-61 from 「FRUIT HEX FILE」
The scenery is overflowing
How to Swallow an Exploding Landscape
Learn to swallow rather than spit
I grope through the lukewarm day, letting out a puff of breath.
I'm letting out the moment when I feel like crying
I can swallow today's present
Everything is no different from swimming.
--- pp.111-112 From "Scenery, Scenery, Splash"
If a note stuck on the refrigerator falls, it will curse you.
How do you keep falling in love?
Just to let you know that this is not a casino.
Crunching on that hard cookie
Without shame
Stand up and throw the note

Publisher's Review
"A poem left behind in the heat of summer, bursting with peach-colored emotion."
Cha Jeong-eun's new work, "Tomato Cup Ramen," discovered by youth.
Poet Cha Jeong-eun, who heated up social media with her "Tomato Cup Ramen" and led the "Text Hip" syndrome, has returned this summer with her new poetry collection, "Summer Peach Sparkling."
The poet, who has received praise for her independently published poetry collections, saying, "You can feel the color and love at the end of every sentence," is leading a new craze by creating an unprecedented sell-out situation for a poetry collection.
In this collection of poems, 『Summer Peach Sparkling』, I look into the emotions of summer, youth, and love with a more delicate and sophisticated perspective than my previous work.
These 57 poems, imbued with the sense of the season like the scorching midday sun, humid wind, toes soaked in waves, refreshing fruit juice, and cold soda water, invite readers into the heart of summer the moment they open them.
Dazzling like the midday sun,
Pieces of emotion that sparkle and overflow like youth
In this collection of poems, the poet not only captures unforgettable summer moments, but also captures the emotions of youth living in this moment, such as love, farewell, friendship, loneliness, and anticipation.
The poems fully capture the diverse emotions of summer days, such as the feeling of often feeling powerless in the hot days but repeatedly resolving to get back up, and the feeling of sometimes cooling down the heated heart like a shower.
The taste of green grapes that makes my nose tingle even though I haven't eaten them yet
(…)
Summer has come suddenly, and we have no immunity, so our slumped shoulders are filled with tension.
The loud noise of summer
_From 〈Summer Warning〉
The back of a youth colliding with the world and breaking apart meets the poet's poignant yet vivid poetry, capturing a refreshing moment that is not entirely sad.
For example, phrases like “The days when I thought I knew the world with my hands in my floral shorts” vividly convey fleeting feelings of youth, self-consciousness, and a sense of helpless bitterness.
Also, in phrases like “The pulse of summer / The artery of Mercury” and “I watch the way the spilled tangerine peel seeps / What news is there that remains on my skin” from “Mercury Planet” and “Orange Afternoon,” the moments of excitement and hesitation are expressed with such delicacy that they seem to touch the skin right away.
“What I can do while waiting for you is
“Standing tall in the great summer, reading cold poetry”
"Summer Peach Sparkling" vividly expresses feelings of boundless joy and sorrow through sparkling yet honest poetry rather than ornate sentences.
At the same time, we silently reach out to each other to endure this heavy summer together.
Leaning against the fan wind
Bearing the weight of midday
We share the world while choosing soda at a convenience store in silence.
(…)
Enough concentration of romance even without the sea
The summer framework we built together
_From 〈Bones of Summer〉
The poet, as a witness to summer, is still looking at that one season that was hot but awkward, and more beautiful than it can be returned to.
I'm glad we can see the summer he witnessed together.
Author's (Cha Jeong-eun) Note
I started writing poems for summer.
