Into the book
Woodward, author of the international bestseller “Fear: Trump in the White House,” reveals exactly when President Trump was warned that the novel coronavirus would become the greatest national security threat.
Woodward takes readers into the Oval Office and details Trump's reaction to the news in January 2020, when he was told the pandemic was on par with the Spanish flu pandemic that killed 675,000 Americans in 1918.

Seventeen interviews, conducted under conditions of confidentiality, over a tumultuous seven months provided a vivid window into the president's mind.
The interview revealed a self-portrait marked by moments of denial and combative dialogue, along with surprising moments of questioning, glimpses of the dangers of the presidency, which the president himself called “dynamite behind every door.”

"Rage" shows that Trump's response to the critical moment of crisis in 2020 was rooted in the instincts, habits, and style he developed as president over the past three years.
"Rage" retraces the early days of the Trump administration, revealing how Secretary of Defense James Mattis, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats worked to keep the country safe while the president undermined any semblance of careful national security decision-making.

"Rage" was written after hundreds of hours of interviews with people directly involved in policy decisions, and based on their notes, emails, diaries, schedules, and secret documents.
Woodward obtained a previously unreleased letter exchanged between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
He described the bond between the two leaders as something out of a “fantasy movie.”
Trump assured Woodward that he would overcome the novel coronavirus and the economic disaster.
“Don’t worry.
“Bob, you got it?” Trump told the author in July.
“Don’t worry.
We could write one more book.
Then you will know that I was right.”
