Publisher's Review
“The textbook feels much easier.
“All subjects include stories I’ve read in the newspaper.”, “When I solve problems, I come across vocabulary I’ve seen in articles, so it feels familiar.”, “I always thought non-fiction was difficult, but reading it in the newspaper is much more fun.”

This is a story often told by middle school students who have been reading the newspaper regularly.
Newspapers not only contain a wealth of essential vocabulary and expressions from textbooks, but also display a variety of texts, including articles, editorials, guides, advertisements, literature, and comics.
So, it is bound to become a living resource that naturally connects to all subjects, including Korean, social studies, math, science, English, and arts and physical education.

The reason is simple.
Textbooks are books that organize the basics we need to know to understand the world, and newspapers are the field that shows how those basics work in real life.
After all, textbooks and newspapers have the same color.
So, if you read the newspaper, you can see the textbook better, and if you read the textbook, you can read the newspaper better.
The more familiar students are with newspapers, the less fear they have of non-fiction, and their background knowledge and literacy skills naturally grow.

This book started from the belief that “newspapers are literacy.”
Our first goal is to help students encounter topics related to their subjects through newspapers, gain a familiar understanding of unfamiliar concepts, and develop the ability to organize and express their thoughts independently.
Another goal is to make the path to high school a little less steep.
The experience of looking at the world through newspapers in middle school becomes a solid stepping stone to high school subjects.

Furthermore, reading newspapers is in line with the current curriculum's goals.
It means facing complex and diverse social problems and developing the strength to solve them rationally.
It also contains the hope that studies will not remain confined to the textbook, but rather move toward studies that are connected to the world.

This book contains the latest articles that middle school students should know about in six fields: economics, society, humanities, culture and arts, science, and environment.
Each article goes through the process of learning vocabulary → organizing content → thinking and expressing, and is structured to help students gain the experience that “non-fiction is not difficult.”
The process of consistently reading newspapers, learning vocabulary, organizing content, and expressing my thoughts will empower students to enjoy reading non-fiction, and for teachers and parents, it will be a powerful tool for developing students' literacy skills.

A single article can broaden a child's overall learning and empower them to thrive in the future.
I hope that students will experience this small but great miracle.
